I just need to know what is "normal". I work in a Pregnancy Resource Center. We are considering if we should have open wi-fi for volunteers and clients.

We don't, but that's because ours broke, and the IT person is too lazy to get it fixed. He thinks we don't need it, but it would be nice for clients to have when they see us on stuff.
I'm finding more and more that offices have it more than they don't. I find it in the norm.

I am a slightly different situation. I work in a church and we don't have clients. We do have WiFi though. All of us working in the office hook our phones up to it so we don't use data during the day. If anyone comes in and asks I give them the password. No biggie.

I work for the local municipal government and we do. It's password protected but we hand out the password to contractors or people making presentations to Council or while working at our office.

Yes, we have free WiFi for clients. There is also free WiFi for employees with more 'stuff' available...whatever that means. we would have to sign in w our work id for it.

WE have a guest Wi-Fi that is password protected and us employees are not allowed to use it...it's strictly for guests.

I work in an office so not customer facing. We have WI-FI but it's restricted meaning no Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. They're all restricted sites.

I work two part-time jobs. The jewelry store does not have wi-fi. All our store computers are hard-wired to the internet. My other job is with an auction company. We have wi-fi in the auction house and will share the password with customers. There's no wi-fi obviously when we do estate auctions on-site at other locations (our computer programs for the auction is not internet dependent).

For staff or volunteers? Yes, but it's supposed to be used for work laptops/iPad/phone and not personal ones.
For clients or visitors, no.
We do have computers in the parent resource rooms for the parents of students to use and computers in each classroom for students to use (except for the infants/toddlers/twos rooms).

Yes, for off-site people coming in that need the web to run a meeting from their lap top.
I think it's a wonderful idea for any office that has you wait to offer it. My optometrist's office just started offering it, it's password protected. The same goes for the music store where my niece gets her music lessons.

Yes, we have 2. One locked and the other open for clients and employees (I use it for streaming music during the day at my desk - softly).

No, we don't. I think we should. It's embarrassing when labour-management groups come in for days of negotiations or mediation (we're the neutral third-party) and they have to either tether their laptops to their own smartphones or use their "internet stick." We put together a business case (only turned on during meetings, password only for participants, etc) and IT still turned it down.

We do. We don't interact with the public, but our office has wifi, and then we also have a guest wi-fi for guest meetings/presentations, etc. In the public sector, I'm not sure it's necessary, but I really appreciate places that have it, especially if my signal is weak and I will be there a while.

We don't have open or guest wifi. It is a hotspot and you have to be a customer of the internet provider and sign in with your own username and password.

We have two. One is for employees only and we log in with our corporate network credentials. The other is for guests and is password-protected.

The real estate office I work out of has wifi for the agents but does not have a guest wifi. The clients really don't need it.

Yes, but then my company manufactures products that use Wi-Fi, so it might be odd not to here. Don't know if that plays into it.

Personally I find it very useful to have anywhere I might have to wait. I regularly catch up on email while I am waiting for appointments.
I am surprised so many work places don't have internet for employees. I could not do my job without it. I do social media, as well as other forms of marketing.. I need the internet for all forms.

We do for employees and guests. We don't really interact with the public though. Guests are likely vendors or business partners/clients.
A guest needs to access the guest net work using the employee that signs them email address as the password. The employee is then sent an email requesting they verify that guest has permission to use the wi-fi. Permission is automatically revoked at the end of the day.

And I know lot of employees use the wifi for their phones, but I don't since I am paranoid that the company would be able to see me typing right now on this board. lol!

Yes--my district offers free wifi to all guests. However, you have to register everyday to get a password. It's easy, though. I can either on-board my personal devices (which I don't do--it gives the district too much control/access to my personal business) or use a guest account (which I do).
