If you don't remember my original thread about my momma cat or just didn't catch it the first time:
2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/43244/stray-kittens-wood-pile-update
Well, the kitten is 3.5 weeks old and doing great! He is just getting his personality, playing, and starting to run around the house under supervision. They are segregated from my other cats when we are gone or at work. Momma is still touchy at times. I don't go out of my way to pet her as she has hissed at me and taken a swipe at me several times. She will rub against my legs and has gotten into my lap a couple of times but she makes me nervous. I'm still hopeful that she comes around.
BUT, just tonight she is in heat again! I can't let her out or she will get pregnant again. I don't think that it is a good idea to take her to get fixed when the baby is so young and needs to eat every few hours. She is driving me crazy though with her constant talking.
I also think it will be such a joy to get her into a carrier when it comes time. I think I will need oven mitts for protection.
I had planned to wait to take them to get fixed together when the kitten turned 4 months old as that is when the place I get all my cats fixed at recommends for babies. There is just no way though that I will be able to handle the mom going into heat every few weeks. I'm hoping to make it a few more weeks until she weans him and then get momma fixed.
And, I know you guys want to see some pics too:

A cat can be spayed when it is pregnant. We rescued our cat from being dumped. She had a severe case of coccidian (sp?). We had to get it taken care of and improve her health before we could even have her vaccinated. It turned out she was pregnant, so we had to delay the vaccines land have her spayed. (The vet said the pregnancy would kill her. So she was spayed while pregnant.

Adorable baby! Mama seems to be coming around if she's sitting in your lap. You are doing a wonderful thing for mom and baby.

First off...Bless you for taking care of them, thank you...
Keep her in and you could call the vet and ask when this can be done...
I had my vet abort a mom kitty, she was a stray and was expecting again...it is hard to do but no one other then me takes on the cats here.
Dead end road and we are in the country. The cat problem is not like what it was because if I can see we have a female around I get her fixed.I am down to 8 cats now, use to be around 27...

While cats can be fixed when they are in heat, I believe it may cost more (not sure if that's a factor for you). Thanks for taking care of her!

That link is hilarious!
Talk to a vet, they may be able to do it (heat isn't a reason not too, nursing is, no way to know u less you talk to them) but either way, God bless you. I am tripping over street kittens and trying to get approved as a TNR person for my district here in Korea. It's really hard, my Korean sucks, and I want to give up but I can't because these cats needs me, plus I feed about 25 every day and I can't feed 75 so it must be done.

In your shoes, I would call your vet and ask about spaying now. Information doesn't hurt, right?
I follow a cat rescue on FB. I think that she had a case of having a mama cat spayed and mama was still nursing. IIRC, there wasn't a problem with that interruption in feeding.
It would be worth it not to have to deal with a cat in heat a few times.
By the way, I think you are doing a wonderful thing for these kitties. The fact that mama will lay in your lap is huge.
Only one of my kitties enjoys closeness and neither of them were feral.
