My computer started downloading/installing windows 10 when I started it up without me doing a thing. Now, after several hours, I just have a black screen. The tower and the monitor both have power. I seriously want to scream.

Does anyone have a solution other than buying a new computer?

Can you completely shut the power off, like unplug from wall & try to re-power it up? Not sure if it will help, but worth a try. I had no problems with Windows 10 on all 4 of my computers, 3 laptops & one desktop.

It pisses me off to no end that the damn thing keeps trying to self load on my computers. If I want the piece of shit, I would have manually downloaded it.

In windows update, windows 10 is automatically checked which I find highly annoying. I unchecked it and hid it in my updates. I'm still on windows 7 and really don't want to change over my older machines.

We had that happen with one of our office computers. Our local tech guy helped us fix it. After that we installed a program on all of the computers called something like "Never 10". He said it's not foolproof, but we haven't had any more stealth updates.
Microsoft absolutely sucks for doing that. Someone needs to start a class action lawsuit, if they haven't already.
I hope you get it resolved. What about calling the Geek Squad, if you don't already have a computer guy.

I tried many things to fix mine and nothing worked. When I took windows 10 off again it left stuff behind and it just never worked right again. I'll never upgrade this one because I don't want it to happen again. I had a tech guy tell me that windows 10 doesn't allow you to refuse updates, even if they mess everything up.

When you get your computer up and running just decline the terms of service and they will reinstall your previous OS.

It started on its own and gave me a black screen. Finally got that fixed but was stuck with 10. Happily that was not on my laptop but the family desktop computer. My husband asked me why I did that since I told him to avoid it and even though it wasn't my doing, he was ticked with the changes.

Does anyone have a solution other than buying a new computer? Find a reputable locally owned computer shop and take it in. Let them have a crack at it. I doubt it's so bad you require a new computer. Good luck!

LOLOL I'm innocent! ;-) I was just working on a project and the computer blinked, and said downloading/updating do not turn off. I was hoping it wasn't a virus or something! CRAZY!
