Dellen Millard and Mark Smitch were both found guilty yesterday of 1st degree murder. They will get life with no chance of parole until 2038. The judge gave an impact statement himself, (which is virtually unheard of) and stated that he wanted to give more but had to follow the law. He said that what they did to Tim Bosma over a truck was evil personified and that they had disgusted him. It was pretty brutal.
Being local to the case, it's a relief that the family has justice and can now begin to rebuild.

I'm local as well. I was waiting on twitter to hear from the local reporters in the court room. A one way ticket to hell would have been the best sentence but they've got life and that's the best we can do. So glad that Tim's family got justice.

This is also local to me. I am glad for the verdict that the jury gave. Sitting in court is so exhausting & the process of actual grieving the loss will now actually begin.
I have heard that Mark Smich is planning an appeal. Dellen Millard is still facing trials for the death of his father & former girlfriend.
This issue will be in the news for several years. So sad.

It's so sad. I still remember when the amber alert (? do you still call it that when an adult is involved?) was issued the night he went missing. That is three years ago already. It's so senseless. He had enough money to buy anything he wanted.

Another local, and I haven't had a chance to read the news updates over the last few days., but this news brought a sense of relief, those two don't deserve to see the light of day ever again.

Bold mine... Yes and they were saying this morning that they may have trouble finding a totally non bias jury because most all of Ontario has heard of this trial and outcome.

Bold mine... Yes and they were saying this morning that they may have trouble finding a totally non bias jury because most all of Ontario has heard of this trial and outcome. It may be difficult but not impossible to get a non bias jury. Sometimes they change the venue of The Superior Court to be able to have a larger pool of jurors to select from.Sometimes changing the venue backfires. Ex: Helmuth Buxbaum (killed his wife) from Keswick/London area & moved to St. Catharines. Due to a large family spread throughout SW Ontario & also church affiliations, they did get a jury together. My one & only jury request. & I was disqualified as I & my extended family were good friends with some family on the extended branch. It was an interesting experiance to be questioned by Brian Greenspan. I have been 'the person' sitting on the side of the victim. It is so difficult when you know so much more to the "story or events leading up to" when your loved one became deceased. Absolutely the worst experience of my life. It will take a very long time for the families left behind to recover.

I too was relieved to hear the verdict for these two despicable beings. My fear is that when they're also convicted of murdering DM's girlfriend that they'll 'only' get a concurrent sentence instead of having to live out their lives behind bars. That, or they somehow win an appeal.

Anybody care to give us the Cliff's notes version of the case? I heard a little about it initially but not much since. Three years...why so long? It's been the same with some cases here in Alberta.

I would vote to open capital punishment based on this case alone. Those two don't deserve to live.
I hope his wife and his family will heal and find peace.

Wish Canada had more stringent laws. They deserved more than they got.

Wish Canada had more stringent laws. They deserved more than they got. Eligibility for parole doesn't mean they will get parole. Hopefully, like Bernardo, they will never grant them parole because their guilt was so evident and there was so much concrete, unrefutable evidence against them.
