I'm sure this has been talked about but I need tips on how to get through it until Aunt Flo leaves the building for good. I am almost 51 and this last one is God awful! It's early too which is weird. I work a physical job, alone, with no bathroom (but there are some nearby). I have to close down the truck every time I need to take care of things and (this will be TMI), I am leaking through a super tampon and a maxi pad in short order. Thank God I took a change of clothes during my all day shift yesterday.
Other than hibernating for the duration, how do you deal with it while on the go?

I'm about a decade younger, but I got the Mirena IUD. I haven't had a period in over a decade

I'm 43, but at 41 I was having the same issue. I would soak through a super pad and tampon every 30 mins for about 4 hours. felt like I couldn't leave the house during my 4 hour period massacre. I had an ablation done, and while it didn't take my periods away, I can now go a full shift with one regular sized tampon change.

I think I will go see a doctor about it. This can't happen again while I have a work shift (or even in general). Someone needs to come with a button so you can have it for procreating and then get rid of the darn thing once and for all!

I'm 41 and have had the same problem for a few years. I don't know how I would get through a day with no bathrooms close by. I am unlucky enough to have had my heaviest day during baseball tournaments several times and it is a pain. I feel for you! I would make sure I had super plus tampons and some heavy duty pads.

I have found that taking chlorophyll tablets during my period makes it lighter and more manageable.

You have my sympathy.
I had a physical job and had to wear a white uniform. For several months I had things reversed instead of one week on and three weeks off it was the opposite.
I developed blood clots due to hormones so no HRT, and surgery was just too iffy for me to go ahead with, and ablation was not an option.
So I made sure I had lots of pads and trousers at work and just bit the bullet. The whole thing took about a year.

I'm 49 and right there with you. If I used a tampon I'd be soaking through it in no time on the first couple days of my period. I use a Diva Cup and a pad on those days and it helps a lot. I'd suggest trying that. It also helps you to get a better feel for just how heavy your flow is.

Glad you are done with that mess!

I was like this. I finally went to the dr & they did a biopsy to make sure everything was ok (it was) and put me on provera. My periods were so much better & now that my thyroid is being treated they are almost nothing. New dr says it was most likely my thyroid all along. Get your thyroid checked.

My periods started to be like that. I dreaded having to stand up because that always triggered a massive rush.
I got an ablation almost a year ago. Life changing - I have not had a period since.

I had a uterine ablation at age 52. That took care of the insanely heavy periods. However, I continued to have a period every until I was 54. I thought it was never going to end. Most people who have ablations don't have any more periods. I guess I was just "lucky"

Have you noticed raging PMS, as well? It's unreal. I'm in my fifties, clearly I will not be having more children. Enough already!

You have my sympathies. I had the same troubles. The advantage I had is/was that I'm self-employed and could adjust my schedule as needed.
I did use the Diva Cup along with a maxi pad. That helped quite a lot. My periods were SUPER heavy and often there were days when I could only leave the house for the shortest periods of time.
Could you make an appointment with your doctor to see what he/she suggests?

I was told I could have an ablation or try Lysteda for my heavy bleeding. I opted for Lysteda and it's been wonderful. I only take it the first few days of my period and it has successfully managed my heavy flow.

Does the ablation hurt???
I swear I was the only one... HOLY MOTHER MARY OF GOD... it's 100 times worse now then when I was a teen.... I sometimes think I will bleed to death.. and yeah, I basically need a change of pants on hand just in case.. so freaking embarrassing. I'm 48 and guess I should talk to my doc about it. Ugggg.

during the murder scene periods I used a super plus tampon and a depends if it went on during my work day. It seemed like the periods that came too early were always far worse than the ones that were too late and there would be about a 5 hour stretch were it was super bad.

Only for about 4 hours after the drug wear off. It was like labor, at least for me, but my doctor gave me Vicodin and said I could double up if the pain was bad. I drugged myself and slept off/on during the pain. Knowing how bad the pain was I'd still do it again in a heartbeat!

I've learned to deal but I feel like I pack an overnight bag for work the first few days of a 9 d a ordeal. I laughed so hard at the murder scene period comment voltagain so true.

OMG Overnight bag is sooooo funny but yes so true. I had to take extra clothes and a ton of supplies to work yesterday since I'm at an event sometimes for well over 10 hours! Then, there was nowhere in the stall to throw anything away. WTH?

Oh I hadn't thought of using Depends. I think I will have to try that next time I work in conjunction with asking my doctor about it.

Thanks for all the tips ladies. It helps to know others have dealt with this and lived to tell the tale. Sucks though that so many of us suffer through this from time to time. I will ask my doctor about options. I can't have this happening regularly until it decides to leave for good.

I'm 47 and experiencing the same thing. I work a very physically demanding job where I'm on my feet over eight hours a night, and I'm running to the bathroom every thirty minutes 3-4 days out of the month. I'm getting some other health things dealt with right now, but it sounds like an ablation should be discussed soon, or maybe just have my damn equipment removed altogether. The ironic thing is that I'm more regular now than I have ever been my whole life, having dealt with PCOS the whole time. I'm convinced it's from having two menstruating daughters in the house, who are both pretty regular, and my cycles are keeping time with theirs. How I miss the days of only having a period ever 4-5 months .

TMI but when that happened to me I used two Super OB tampons at a time, along with a maxi pad.

I'm having the same issues. My last cycle was 21 days. The one before was about 130 days (loved that). And the toilet looks like a damn crime scene every time. I'm so over it. I'm ready for it to go away forever. I'm 50, btw

I just had the ablation a month ago and I was not as fortunate as those women who only cramped for a few hours. I was miserable for 2.5 days and I was on percoset and 800 mg Ibuprofen. Even saying that...i would still do the ablation again. It has only been one month since my ablation and I have had what I think was a period a few days ago that lasted for two days and was only about 20% of what they used to be. I really won't be able to tell for sure for another six months but so far so good.
