Sooo I am just 47 and my period has been tracked very faithfully for 2 years. It comes every 21-25 days. It is 6 days late now. My GP just upped one of my medications which elevates prolactin. I may be in peace for a few months.
I am also sweating a lot less and I am sweating nothing like I did last year. Our weather has been extremely menopausally cooperative this year. I swear the weather gods love women 45-60 this year!

Wait one flipping second here. They get worse as you get older? I'm 41 and the periods I have been having since I've been off the pill have been awful. I swear it's like I'm peeing blood sometimes. It gets worse from there? #$%@!#%%^##

Does the ablation hurt??? I swear I was the only one... HOLY MOTHER MARY OF GOD... it's 100 times worse now then when I was a teen.... I sometimes think I will bleed to death.. and yeah, I basically need a change of pants on hand just in case.. so freaking embarrassing. I'm 48 and guess I should talk to my doc about it. Ugggg. I had some cramping that night, but the pain pills the doctor gave me took care of it nicely. The next morning, I felt great. I thought it was a very easy procedure/recovery. Very worth it for me.

I third (or more-th the diva cup recommendation. I've gone from light and regular to 'Lord, who got killed in there' in the last two years. I have less cramping with diva cup too. It's also helpful that you can measure the blood more accurately. My doctors took my heavy flow more seriously when I could tell them in ounces.

I would soak through an Ultra tampon and overnight pad in 45 minutes. I had ablation done 2 1/2 years ago. My periods aren't gone, but are much, much lighter.

I took a lot of ibuprofen or acetaminophen (I forget which one) to get my crime scene periods to lighten up (per dr's advice). Pineapple is supposed to help, too. Now I usually only have a couple periods a year and they are very light. The ironic thing is that I'm more regular now than I have ever been my whole life, having dealt with PCOS the whole time. I'm convinced it's from having two menstruating daughters in the house, who are both pretty regular, and my cycles are keeping time with theirs. How I miss the days of only having a period ever 4-5 months . DD#1 is home from grad school now, so I'm curious if mine will start up again. The last period i had was in Jan/Feb, but it was very long at all.

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

OMG! My periods look like a serial killer got started on me but went on dinner break. I'm 42. They only started to be heavy after 38 or 39. My doctor performed a myomectomy for fibroids and it only gave me a little relief. That wake up in the morning gush last month caused me to clog my toilet with tampons (tmi!!!).
I don't want them to end because I still want children. Of course I'm older but my crazy bff is a doctor and she keeps telling me that as long as I have a period I still have a chance. I just wish it was easier to deal with.

TMI but when that happened to me I used two Super OB tampons at a time, along with a maxi pad. I hadn't thought of that idea. i will have to try it.

Liquid chlorophyll is said to be even faster acting - which makes total sense but I hate liquid meds/supplements so I stick with the capsules. I take 2 capsules 3 times a day until I notice a difference and then 1 capsule twice a day and taper down to the end. Just thought I would mention it because it has helped me and we are hoping to have another child in the future.

My doctor put me on birth control pills and so far it has worked.
The thing that got me about the heavy bleeding was waking up every two hours to change supplies. The lack of sleep was killing me. With the pill I have been able to sleep through the night.

Mine were like a crime scene. I went back on the pill.

The last several years (2 or 3?) of monthly visits from Aunt Flo were the worst. Heavier flows, irritability, and persistent cramping were on the rampage. I didn't have a physical job so I was able to, at least, take care of it. Believe me, I was SO THANKFUL when the visits ended for good at the ripe old age of 52. I would check with my doctor. He/she may be able to give you something that will lighten the flow/relieve the misery until it ends for good. Hope it all works. I know it's not pleasant and I truly empathize with you.

I had really bad periods before I had ablation. I had to wear adult diapers to sleep in to avoid waking up in a crime scene. Sorry you are dealing with this. I think Aunt Flo has finally left the building for me. My last visit was in March. I went to Florida and Missouri the last two weeks for vacation. I have never been to the beach or on vacation (ever! Really!) that Aunt Flo decided to not tag along.

I'm about a decade younger, but I got the Mirena IUD. I haven't had a period in over a decade I have had for a month and a half. I am spotting everyday. Everyday. I am not happy.

The last couple years were rough. I'd use an instead, (like a diva cup), a tampon and a big pad. And change it all every hour.
My mother used to swear by cayenne. She swallowed it in capsules.

I'm about a decade younger, but I got the Mirena IUD. I haven't had a period in over a decade I have had for a month and a half. I am spotting everyday. Everyday. I am not happy. I spotted like that with my first Mirena lancermom. In fact, I spotted off and on for the whole first year. Some people do. The good news is that it resolved and has been smooth sailing ever since. I will occasionally have the most minor spotting, usually related to intense exercise sessions. I'm on my second Mirena (total of six plus years or so now) and I'm 55. My worry is what's going on with my body that I don't know about. The best case scenario is that my periods have just quietly gone away. The worst case is that I'll start the worst menopause ever when I stop using Mirena. Obviously, I'm offering sacrifices to the gods for the first option!
