Is this why the regular $4 hard boiled eggs were replaced by the $8+ organic hard boiled eggs?

She could do one better and skip buying them all together by just getting some chickens. We were so overrun with organic eggs that we took 13 dozen to a friend who runs a makeshift food pantry for people in his church twice a week out of his garage. We can't seem to eat the things fast enough! (LOL, technically ours aren't "cage free" though because we have a dog kennel on the door side of their coop so our little dog won't terrorize them and so the hawks don't pick them off!)

Well, she not only has two kids, but one of them has a food allergy, so there is heightened sanctimommy potential.
Unless Coscto swaps chicken eggs out for alligator eggs, I'm cool. I am bitter, however, because my branch changed the variety of Sabra hummus they carry to one we hate, and switched the brand of dried mango to one that doesn't have crystallized sugar on the outside. I am barely hanging on here, guys.

Is this why the regular $4 hard boiled eggs were replaced by the $8+ organic hard boiled eggs? Yes. They used to offer both and now organic is the only option. Same with presliced apple packages. But I figure if I have the $$ to buy peeled hard boiled eggs and presliced apples, I can probably cough up the extra for organic.

I am barely hanging on here, guys. Even better, the kid has multiple food allergies. That puts the sanctimommy potential at an all-time high! While I do buy cage free eggs, with only two of us I don't go through them quickly enough to buy Costco quantities. I'll save my outrage for the fact that they discontinued not only the purple label Kirkland toilet paper, but also the Bounty paper towels with the large sheets! Now I have to go across the street to HEB to buy toilet paper and paper towels. Oh the horrors!

Every time I find something I love at the store, they stop carrying it. I have to go to no less than 6 different stores to get my groceries (not all on the same day). 2 of them are an hour's drive away. I have to be pretty picky about brands though.
Guess I should start my petitions.

Oh good grief, isn't she fucking precious. She's the type that I want to smack over the head with a shovel. Good for her going to Aldi and not giving a shit about anyone but herself (and her pwecious snowflakes).
I'll be honest, I'm really side-eyeing the whole concept of a dozen eggs costing less than a dollar. What makes them so cheap and what short cuts have been taken to make that cost so low? Not saying that this is happening, but when I see this price I wonder why it's so low.

Oh good lord. A dozen eggs is 4-6 servings of protein. Even at $6 a dozen, which is what I pay for pastured eggs, it's a veritable bargain compared to meat.
If your budget is that tight, mix in some non-animal sources of protein. They don't even have to be organic.

Funny how she doesn't have time to write store about what products they carry but does have time to write this article complaining about it- ha!
Also, not sure what her point about Science getting things wrong when most people are choosing cage free because of how the chickens are treated, not the nutritional value.

One of my first thoughts on this was that she's not a very good writer to be published in a major (sort of) newspaper. I checked out her bio at The Federalist:
The Post must not pay very well.

The chickens are DH's project and I would say he maybe spends less than an hour a week taking care of them, making sure they have clean water, enough food, cleaning their coop and collecting the eggs. It takes us longer than that to drive to Costco, walk through the store and drive back!

We can't let them loose out in the back yard all that often because one of our dogs would stalk and attack them besides the foxes and coyotes that are around. Also the neighbors see them out running around in the grass and think they've escaped and try to round them back up again! If you thought herding cats was hard, try corralling a flock of chickens!

I think it's more about supply and demand. There is *more* demand for the cage-free right now, so that's what Costco is supplying. I was at least understanding where she was coming from until she goes into her litany of stuff she's annoyed with - like removing the dye from her childhood favorite mac and cheese. At that point, it was really turning into a whine to me. At least complaining about an increase in price (whether someone thinks it's worth it or not) is something we can all relate to. Griping about dye being removed from food? Stupid. I also think it's a relatively petty whine even about the expense - she has to spend about $5 extra to get the same quantity of eggs, which lasts 2 weeks and is her kid's main protein. I know we're all sick of being nickeled and dimed to death, and that $5 is a lot to some people, but really, that is a pretty minimal cost increase for a main dietary building block. Other food items have gone up a lot more. And FWIW, I have to spend about $2.50 for a dozen eggs at my grocery store, lady! I love that she's mad about chemicals and dyes being removed from Kraft when they did it without telling anyone and NOBODY FREAKING NOTICED. They should ship her a pile of it if she still wants it.This part was my favorite: "Alas, being a busy mother of two children under the age of three, I spend my time shopping and cooking for my family instead of contacting stores about my social-justice project of the week."
OMG. Sanctimommy alert!!! Yes, yes, you have TWO children! We don't know HOW you do it! Seriously, STFU. Okay that's so funny to me..because we did. We totally noticed. My kid isn't that big a fan of Kraft Mac & Cheese but i keep boxes in the pantry for when we have kids over for play dates. The first time I made a batch I noticed the kids hardly ate it, and I wondered about that, but I dumped it and didn't give it a second thought. The next time I made it, I really paid attention to the measurements (they changed) of the milk and butter added. Nope, again they didn't eat it and when I asked I was told it just didn't taste that good. I tasted it, and it was nasty. I wondered what the hell, is it my milk? I checked the expiration date, nope not that. It left me really bugged and annoyed, I winded up making quesadillas for the kids instead. THEN I heard the ad and I was so annoyed and well, ticked off! What the hell Kraft, you decide to make major changes to an iconic product and *not* tell, us and..oh, the joke's on us! We didn't notice! Its annoying as hell. You know what, I kinda agree with the writer. How freaking condescending can you get, Kraft? You made changes and we are sooo dumb, we didn't even notice we were eating 'healthy'! I can't with this nanny state bs anymore. Clean it up, offer healthy alternatives, but don't fucking presume to babysit me and pat me on the head and say 'see, there there, you didn't even notice!'. Put a fucking label on the box and let ME decide. Really ticks me off. SaveSave

IMO if you have chickens running free and you're not on a larger plot of land, or you don't have a fenced yard and your chickens are running into your neighbor's land, you are an asshole. my brother and SIL are dealing with this now. they have 2 dogs who they let out on tie-outs in their yard. their neighbors built a chicken pen right near the property line and let the chickens roam freely in their 50' wide backyard. they've already had several near-misses when chickens have wandered into my brother's yard and within reach of the dogs, who while they probably wouldn't attack them, could easily kill them accidentally by "playing" with them. neighbors apparently don't care at all about this, but I bet if one gets killed, THEN they will have a problem.

My Costco only carries the puffed corn sweet stuff seasonally. Like Buc-ees pellets or maple flavored Cheetos but better. So yeah, Costco totally sucks and needs to fix their problems right now. (J/k you all know how much I love Costco)

We have 1.5+ acres so there's plenty of room, we just don't trust our one dog. The neighbors don't really care if the chickens are running around, it's just so unusual for them to be out that they think they've escaped. One of our neighbors would love it if our chickens free ranged in their yard because it would help with all the rampant bugs that tend to ruin their vegetable garden. We've got really sandy soil here and lots of ants so when they do get let out the chickens go totally nuts!

That's not about someone telling you what to eat in any way. It's about a company making a moral decision to buy and sell cage free eggs in their establishment. BINGO! Costco is big enough to make real change to help lessen cruelty, so I'm all for cage-free.
