This morning. He was killed by his own car in his driveway. I'd link but can't on my iPad. You can google for the story.
So sad. I really liked him.

"Wictor Wictor"...so sad. I was just telling DH about him. When DH said "who?", I did the Wictor Wictor thing. So sad, I really liked him playing Chekhov. He was perfect.

I was stunned when I saw the news. Kind of like how I felt when I heard about River Phoenix all those years ago: So young, so talented and so much potential. I just watched Odd Thomas on Netflix the other night when I couldn't sleep - I think that young man had the potential to be much more than Chekhov (don't get me wrong, I love the "Wictor, Wictor" character). ack...

We were at dinner with the kids for father's day when my DD exclaimed this. I thought she was going to cry right there. It was such a sad thing to hear about.

My whole family is so crushed about this. He was so perfect for that role. I can't imagine how his friends and loved ones feel.

He was adorable and definitely perfect for the role. I wonder what the franchise will do for future films? Recast? Kill the character off screen? I was looking forward to the new movie coming out next month, and now it will be sad to see him. And such a freak accident. Life is scary.

I was so sad to hear about this earlier today! I love the new Star Trek franchise and he was the perfect Chekhov. What a horrible way to die! Melissa

I haven't seen any of the newer Star Trek movies so I wasn't familiar with the actor but read about his death this morning - very sad. Sound like he was backing out of his driveway, got out to get the mail or open the gate but had left his car in neutral - how awful - so young too

Incredibly sad news I think I read his parents are Russian figure skaters? I think they will have to re-cast the role, sadly. The new Star Trek is the story before the old, correct?

My son's tap teacher lost her granddaughter in a similar way.
The girl pulled into her steep driveway. When she got out somehow the car slipped a gear and started rolling backward. She tried to stop it by getting behind it. Friends say she did it because she was afraid of it causing an accident, what would happen with the auto insurance and her parents getting mad at her about the insurance.

I just heard on news radio that his vehicle had a recall on it because the gears have been knows to shift away from "Park".

I LOVED Anton Yelchin...this news was very distressing yesterday....so young/ freak accident. I've never seen any Star Trek movies, but have been a fan of his for a long time ("Hearts in Atlantis" must have been over 15 years ago). Any time I saw a movie that leaned Independent and had him in it, I knew it would be good. Watched him grow from an "old soul" child actor to a teen that you'd follow into any kind of trouble ("Charlie Bartlett," "House of D," etc) to a grown man in his 20s who made a great romantic leading man ("Like Crazy," "5to7,"etc). Especially sad that he seemed such a kind soul, was his parents only child (they defected from Russia after Olympics way back), and this happened on Father's Day. I hate the news articles & comments under them that have already judged him inept for supposedly putting it in neutral, and the mis-reporting of the details of the recall. If he'd have put it in neutral (who DOES that, --NO ONE with an automatic in the US unless you have a flat tire or dead engine & need to move car) & that was going to make it roll, it would have most likely started doing so when he was NEXT to the vehicle after jumping out (or before). MORE likely is he put it in PARK, got out to check the mail or gate & the Jeep Cherokee did what ***certain*** newer model Jeeps (& Chryslers & Dodges) have been doing: 1) JUMPING OUT OF PARK into Neutral. Even those affected models that haven't done that yet are 2) said to have a very confusing gear shifter, unlike any on any vehicle previously...so much so many are wondering how it ever passed safety tests to begin with. PLEASE take heed of this "Recall" that was only put out a month & a half ago & see if it affects your model (and KEEP CHECKING BACK since so many recalls these days are rolled out a few at a time because of the vast # affected), and people tend to ignore or think since their model wasn't listed previously they must be fine. I put "Recall" in quotes since while there is one, there apparently is NO fix yet. Nice.

I saw a picture of the actor online this morning and couldn't figure out where I'd seen him before...then it hit me: He was on an ep of Criminal Minds in 2006! He played Nathan Harris, a teen who reaches out to Spencer Reid.

So weird to see all the articles refer to him as "Star Trek" actor. I've seen so much of his stuff & never knew he was in it---seems so far different from what he normally does.
