Super interesting. I will have to let my 11 year old color blind DS know. He hates when he says the wrong color and gets corrected!

I am color blind which is rare for women. But my father is also color blind.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not see in greys, blacks, and whites.

Yep. I am surrounded by them. And in no way am I going to tell them that they are superior ... it will totally go to their head and all I will hear is HEY MOM I AM SUPERIOR.

My DH says the same thing, but he has absolutely no idea what grey is. He cannot identify it at all. I thought the article was interesting, and it makes me understand why DH can see well in minimum light.

My brother in law can't see blue (or maybe it's red/green)... anyway, I'm not going to tell him anything that might make him feel superior. LOL

Interesting article. I have a good friend in my business (design) who is color blind. In many ways it's a distinct disadvantage to be a colorblind artist. But he does seem very sensitive to pattern so I suppose it's a trade-off. But I didn't really see anything in the article that indicated that colorblindness is SUPERIOR to non-colorblindness. There might be adaptations and advantages in certain circumstances: both in animals and humans, but I'll take non-colorblindness any time. I do think that these studies can help color blind people know that vision and perceptions is very complex and that color blindness isn't all that bad, and can have its advantages. But superior? Not sure about that. For humans, it still seems to be tough to be color blind.

My husband is colorblind. It works in my favor in that he lets me handle all of our home decor, but sometimes he looks at me funny when I wear purple, he says it is a turd brown color to him.

I am colorblind as well as is my dad and one aunt. I didn't find out until college when we took a color test for an art class. My parents were always worried about my brother, but he sees color just fine. Fortunately, my color blindness isn't as severe as my dad's, but I still find it funny that he used to ask my opinion on coordinating his clothes and then my mom would make him change.

My father has a blue/green color blindness. He gets those colors mixed up quite a bit. My mother bought a navy blue leather sofa set from Scan years ago and to this day he swears it is hunter green.
Debbie in MD.

My dad and brother are.
My mom has a giant purple shed in her backyard from the one time she thought it was safe to let my dad pick out a paint colour. Nope. Never safe.

Debbie in MD. For years I couldn't figure out why my parents bought a pink chair. They didn't have anything in the house that color. Turns out it's brown... I received it as a hand-me-down and it still looks pink. It's hard to justify having it next to the red chair, but my husband says it looks fine.

My father & older DS are both very color-blind! No wonder DS hated to color when he was a toddler and loathed color related assignments in school.

I didn't know women could get it and didn't ever know of a woman who had it. Please describe if it isn't too personal

I sometimes feel like an interpreter for my DH.

I am not colorblind but I cannot see in 3D. I do not know what 3D is like apparently as I was tested during an eye exam a few years ago and was completely unable to identify 3D images. Suddenly it made sense why the 3D movie at Disney was not interesting to me. It looked just like every other movie, haha!

My DH is colorblind... It makes shopping for anything home improvement related a challenge. He's colorblind... He KNOWS he's colorblind... Yet he still insists on arguing colors with me. It's a good thing he's cute.

When he was younger he would take off the glasses and he said the movie looked the same to him with them or without them. We were really confused! But he cannot see 3D at all. Saves us serious cash at the movies!

My son and my step son have blue/green color blindness. I think my husband has a bit of the same problem. Our grandson is supposed to have general color blindness, but I don't see it reflected in his art work.
I have been told that most people who are said to be colorblind see varying shades of grey (for what others see as different colors). We had a student once who could not see any difference in any of the colors, or so I was told.
