My dear neighbor passed away in January. Her husband did not touch a thing for five months and now he is moving to a new house in the country, He is moving every single thing that filled their four bedroom home. She had every single wall in that house filled with greenery and knick knacks. We helped him move for several days and it has really made me look at my house and has encouraged me to declutter my closets and cabinets. I used to do it every summer, but have gotten lazy the last few years. If someone had to clean out my scrap crap (as my boys call it), I can just imagine what they would say about me. I'm sorry about your neighbor. I can totally relate to this. My mom passed away several years ago and left me with a giant house packed with stuff. Nice and well-organized stuff, but no way I could absorb it into my young 20s lifestyle. Nothing puts de-hoarding in perspective like having to go through someone else's lifetime supply of things. My fiancé hasn't been through anything like this yet and we are constantly talking about what to keep and get rid of. It's just a completely different perspective.
