We have a "funny things our cats do" thread going at the moment, so how about one of our dogs? I know we've done this before, but I LOVE reading everyone's pet stories. Mine is an almost-7-year-old black lab/border collie mix (although she has the curved tail of some kind of chow, so who knows what all she is) is a real cutie pie, but does have her quirks. One of the things she does (and I know most of yours do too) is follow me everywhere. We have a VERY small house but if I'm working at the dining room table and she's in the living room sleeping (but within sight if she would open her eyes), and I get up to go to the kitchen (two feet away) she gets up and walks to where she can see me, then flops down asleep again. Same if I go to the bathroom. I go in there and she follows me, and I hear the *thump* and she lies down right outside the door. Because you know, I just might get kidnapped out the window. When my dh comes home from work Simba announces him the second his car pulls up in front of the house. She has a special bark that means "family is home". She runs from the window to me and back to the window then back to me, etc. using her special family bark. She'll keep this up until either dh comes in the door or I get up to open the door for him. Then she rushes out the door and brings him in. Her love/hate relationship with the cat next door: the cat saunters over to our property and lays on the walkway out front. Simba goes CRAZY at the front window. Sometimes I'll put her leash on and take her out. She RUSHES to get over to where the cat is. The cat will *saunter* just out of reach and then stop and just stare at Simba. Simba acts like she'd like to run over and eat that cat. But if I let her go closer the cat will hiss, and then Simba runs to hide behind my leg. rofl. If we had a cat that cat would be boss in about two seconds. The teeniest hint of thunder or a fire cracker will send her under the piano bench, where there's hardly room for her to breathe. Yet a dump truck out front, along with jack hammers and tar spreaders (repaving the street) will hardly cause her to open her eyes. Unless of course the work men have the NERVE to park their cars in front of our house. Then all bets are off. Here's my baby:

We used to have a Llhasa Apso that would follow my husband any time he moved. He was once in a chair that had wheels and just for fun was sliding from one side of the room to the other to see if the dog would go back and forth with him repeatedly. She did!

If we come home with a bag of dog food and leave in the entry, my girl dog will lay next to it and "guard" it until it gets moved into the pantry.
If I want to keep her out of trouble...I put the dog food out, lol

Right now they are having to have the same plastic bone. Pia has a pink one and duke has a blue one. Duke goes to eat and steals the pink bone that Pia has, she steals it back he eats. His blue one is still sitting in the middle of the living room floor untouched. I think she's taunting him with it. She wants him to play.

Kellie used to hear or see something in the back yard then go tearing through the house barking and carrying on and go to the French doors to run out and deal with whatever was there. So I'd get up and open the doors and he'd just poke his head out, not move his body outside. Sometimes I'd push him out with my foot. <sigh> I miss that sweet boy.

Is it considered funny if your dog pukes on your scrapbook papers??? Yes, this happened...this morning. Still not laughing about it. Just replaced most of them at my LSS and from SB.com.

Kellie never did that but if I was sitting on the floor putting real estate documents into piles, he'd sit on one. Every.single.time.

In the summer he darts in the bathroom when he hears you go in or scratches at the door if you've dared to shut it. He jumps in the bathtub and waits for you to turn it on. He's pissed if I try to just fill his water dish. He wants to drink from the tap. I think it's like when I was a kid and drinking from the garden hose was cool.

My maltizhu is a spinner. Whenever he's out for a walk and sees another dog, he gets so excited he starts spinning in circles. Usually, this is enough to scare off all but the most stalwart dogs, so he doesn't usually get to the sniffing part. It takes a patient, brave dog to wade through all that spinning and let him say hello.

If someone comes to the door, my dog will first chase the cats out of the living room. It almost seems like she's trying to get the to safety. THEN she will come back and bark.

Our dog Cheech sleeps like this: Love it! This is officially referred to as "Roaching". I have three fine "roachers" including one who weighs 90 pounds. He is the king roacher in my house. Greyhounds are awesome roachers since their legs stick up about three feet in the air.

My little Pom barks to tell me when the phone is ringing. She will sometimes "lie" to me when I am vacuuming, by trying to tell me the phone is ringing when it is not. She just wants me to hold her instead of working. She hasn't figured out that it only works when I am out of sight of the tv, because I can look at the screen and see if caller ID is showing up. She is a real stinker.

My boy dog is afraid of the water bowl. He has frequent standoffs with it, and really has to talk himself into drinking from it. But the very second he hears thunder or thinks it's starting raining, he runs outside and stands or sits in the rain. And then when it's raining and thunders, he runs as fast as he can all the way across the yard. It's so funny!!!

My car sits really low to the ground, so when I pull in and open the door, Penny (white dog in my siggy) runs up and gives me a welcome home kiss as soon as I open the car door. We are at perfect face to muzzle level when I'm sitting in the car.
Ziggy (yorkie) meets me at the back door, but then runs to the front door to be let outside. We have kept the dog food in a few different places over the years and he usually scratched the bag, container, or the pantry door when he wanted fed. At some point he realized the cans rattled in the recycle bin the loudest, so now when he wants food he scratches it. He will also only eat dog food if someone is in the kitchen with him, but people food left unattended is fair game any time.

Also, when Penny was a puppy, I opened the front door one night to find this:

Our cat Bobby used to sneak out the back door of the house sometimes when I was letting the dogs in or out. Our Shepherd, Skylar, would run after him, and if she could catch him before he cleared the side gate she would grab him and bring him back to me. She was very gentle, and never hurt him.
She loves to play with her tennis ball and to have us throw it for her. Sometimes, if we are tired of playing, she will pick up the ball and toss her head to 'throw' it for herself, and then chase after it. That is very comical to watch.
Mickey D, one of our Shih Tzus, will lay on the vents to get the cool air from the a/c in the summer and the warm air from the furnace in the winter. Not a big deal unless he's in our room at night, where we only have the one vent!
He is very laid back. One day I accidentally vacuumed up his tail. I immediately shut off the machine and lifted the front of the vacuum and began to pull his tail from where it was wrapped around the beater. He just lay there looking at me in a way that I'm sure he was thinking, 'For real? You vacuumed up my tail?'
Our other Shih Tzu, Fat Jax, has become a shoe hoarder of late. Whenever we come home, he'll grab a shoe (either one we've been wearing or just a random shoe by the rack) and run with it to his bed below the coffee table. I don't know what he's thinking, whether he thinks if he has our shoes we won't leave him again, or what, lol.
He is the only dog who sleeps in our bed, and when we go to our room for the night he runs into the room and stands sideways by the end of the bed, waiting for one of us to pick him.

My Dane does the roach sleeping position as well. It's not unheard of to get a foot in the face if you are in the couch with her and not paying attention.
I was warned that they are quirky dogs...she leans against your legs (kind of like a cat), sits in your lap, and backs her butt up to you for a scratch.

Gotta love a working dog!

I have two BBDs (big black dogs). And they both find endless ways to amuse us. My Bailey Dog is terrified of the laminate wood floors. He basically hops from rug to rug in an attempt to avoid them. When he can't avoid them he will circle a few times then starts walking BACKWARDS to whatever his destination happens to be. It is not unusual to see him walking backwards in our house.
The other BBD, Chewie, loves to eat ice. It used to be if he heard the fridge door open he would come running. Now he comes running whenever he hears DH unscrew his water bottle, because he know the next step is to open the fridge door for ice.
We also use a tracking app that gives notification when anyone in our family is a block away from home. When Chewie hears the app he goes running for the garage door because he knows I will be home soon.
Chewie will also "discipline" our cat. Not so much now that the cat is a little older, but if he sees the cat doing something he isn't supposed to be doing, like getting on the counters, Chewie will bark at him until he stops.
Fun times at our house. Fun times.

Presents his back to be scratched. If you don't, he looks over his shoulder and down that through his bushy eyebrows as if he's calling you dumb for not recognizing what he wants.

My bed is high so I have to lift Stella up to get on it. When I bend down and put my arms around her she does a little hop to get into my arms.
When my clothes dryer stops she goes and sits by it until I come and get the clothes out.
If I tell her that her sister (my DD) is coming over she waits by the door and cries until DD comes in.
