Purge and then buy (or make) storage that works for your personal style. I like things hidden, but still easy to see once I pull them out.

My tip is put things away when you bring them in the house. Before you bring it in (or buy it) decide where it will go.
Do I do this? No. Should I? Absolutely.

Purge what you no longer are in love with. Put like things together. Organize paper by color. Put all your tools in one place. There are fun and sneaky ways to organize. Jewelry holders with all the little pockets that hang in your closet are good for embellishments, paint, ink pad, glitter, stickles and what not. Behind the door shoe organizers are great for punches. I have a two tier fruit holder found in the Target kitchen section that holds my rubber stamps. Michaels has their storage pieces on sale 50% off every now and then. I have a few pieces that fit on my desktop that hold markers and has a couple of small drawers. I love it because the pen holder part comes out and I now have two shelves to hold other things.
I also keep all my stickers, embossing folders and stamp sets on a clip it up. I have two of the 2 tier ones. Love them! I have them tucked in my closet.

Whole heartedly agree about purging. It makes a world of a difference when you are looking for something. The best tip I've found to stay organized is to clean my space after every project. #1...it's very easy to clean up after one project rather than 10+ projects...haha!! #2...it reminds you of everything you have because your putting your stuff away. As far as organizing embellishments, I use Martha Stewart desktop organizers. You can find them at Staples. Here's a link.

I have to echo everyone else - purge first.
For me - I need to store stuff the way I look for it. So I think about making a layout- when I reach for paper do I think manufacturer? or kit? or colour? etc... I think colour so I store my paper by colour. Stickers I think theme so I store them that way. I don't have enough stamps to organise (they are all in a drawer jumbled together) but if I did, I would organise by sentiments/images and then by theme. Embellishments - are you looking for something red for the layout or are you looking for a diecut or a brad or ...store that way

I need some ideas for stickers/embellishments. I put all my stickers, enamel dots, small tags (like jewelry tags from Avery) sorted in gallon sized ziplock bags and then in a fabric storage cube. I have a BH&G 8 cube organizer from WM, and stickers get their own cube. I actually bought my collapsible fabric cube from the Dollar Tree though. It's sturdy enough for stickers, for sure. I love to group like things together in bins that I can easy dig through. My Stickles? Plastic bowl. Paper punches? Plastic bin from Dollar Tree. Dies and embossing folders? Standing up in another plastic bin from Dollar Tree. I like to be able to rummage around without worrying about messing up a precise order that will have to be fixed later.

If you could tell us what you want to organize (after you purge), that would be helpful. I have many organizational posts on my blog from over the years. Some posts are 6-7 years old BUT they still work for me. I love how I have my things organized but you also have to know what works for you. Anyway, once you tell us what you want to organize, I can link some posts for you.

Personally, I have 3 organizational methods.
First: Themed items all go together in Iris cases Second: Like things together - all my wood veneer is in one spot, all my flair is in one spot, all my extra adhesives are in one spot... Third: I have some small (4" square) plastic containers that hold things by color. When I have used up most of a sticker sheet, I cut the elements apart and put them in the bins by color. So, small embellishments that are no longer part of a collection go in those bins. Then, when I need a little something yellow, I grab that bin.

If you haven't already, check out Jennifer McGuire's blog and videos about organization. www.jennifermcguireink.com/blogI've adopted several of her ideas and love them. She utilizes the InterDesign binz. I have those for my stamps and LOVE that method of storage.

Target has bins of similar size as the fridge bins in their storage supplies area. They're a little cheaper and work well. thats what I use for a lot of my flat stuff.

As an Organizing nerd...I would start with an honest assessment. What works? What doesn't work? And if it doesn't work, try to figure out why can incorporate that in your next solution. Also does the set-up of the room work? If not consider reconfiguring the desk, shelves, whatever.
Rather than buy new stuff, I try to look at what storage stuff I have and see if I can use it another way. I'm also big on taking other stuff from my home and repurposing it. I have a retro Fireking loaf style dish I use to organize my enamel dots, I have a wooden wine box with a lid and clasp I have sheets of rhinestones in, disposable ziplock/gladware containers for seasonal embellishments. My only rule was it had to work and be functional.
I would second, third, and fourth everybody who said to figure out how you scrap, by color, theme, manufacture, and I would add if you're someone who needs to see what what you have (open storage) or if you need have things put up/away (closed storage.)
Next, I also fully believe in purging. When I did it recently, I started with a supply, like paper. I made myself go through all of it (the first pass) before going on to another supply. I posted this in another thread, but my method was to go through my paper, really lookout each sheet and ask the following questions:
Can I see this being used in one of my layouts - whatever style/styles you scrap? If yes, then I kept it. If no, then I asked....
Do I have a specific project in mind for this paper/product? If the answer was no, then it went in a large shopping bag to donate. If my answer was yes, then I asked a question,
Am I REALLY going to do this project in the next 6 -12 months? If the answer was yes, then I kept the item. If the answer was no it went in the donate bag.
The first time I went through there were papers/items I had a hard time letting go of. I wasn't ready. So I let myself keep them. After a couple days made a second pass through the paper, and this time I got rid of more and it was a lot easier. I even did a third pass through a couple of my paper organizers. By the third time, it was so much easier to let go of things I knew, but hadn't been ready to admit, that I was not going to use.
I also kept my donate bag through this whole process and maybe a week or so after I finish. It made it easier for me to put items in there knowing if I changed my mind I could go get them out. (I think I only ended up taking back one or two items.)
The other rule I made was, I could only keep so many sheets of the same pattern paper, two copies. So if I loved both sides I would keep only 4 sheets total. The exception was if I needed more for a specific project I was actually going to do. For the extras I put them in a separate folder and cut them up to be used for pocket cards and 6x8 backgrounds.
My supplies were already grouped together when I did this, but if they had not been, I still go through it the same way and after the final pass I would find a large dining table or floor and start dividing up my paper or whatever by the way I scarp, so I scrap by theme, so my piles would be Christmas, Fall, Halloween, Tropical, Space, Western, Retro, and so on.... Then within those piles I subdivided them down by collection/brand.
Last bit of advice, it has to work for you, if you change something and part or all it doesn't work don't be afraid to change it again. It's an on-hgoing process. As you and your crafting evolve what you need changes.
Hope this helps. Good luck organizing!!!!!!

for stickers, I have them organized by theme, put them in a sheet protector (with cardstock to support it) and place in regular magazine holders. But I do not have a lot. A couple of gals in our scrapbook group use the ScrapRack...and I see them a lot at the Expo crop...but it does seem to take a lot of 'real estate'. scraprack link

if you can't go out, go UP! tiered baskets are great and so are cubicles that can be stacked. keep like items stored together so it's easier to keep track of them and go through them when you need a particular item. go through your stash on a regular basis and get rid of stuff as needed.

You need to figure out how you scrap best. For me I have everything organized by manufacturer and line, cause that's how I scrap. I know lots of people organize by color, I tried and split up a bunch of my collections and then found myself hunting for pieces of the collection that I was using. So for me, it's easier to just have everything tohether. I'm not one to mix and match, I'm a single collection user.

I have seen similar ones at Ross also. The ones that work well with the Avery Elle plastic sleeves are Fridge Binz. Oh, check Tuesday Morning. They are there too. I have the ones that have a separator down the middle.

I leave new packs of stickers or embellishments on my desk where I can see them and use them on every layout. Then when I either get something newer or find that I'm not using it on every page I will cut the sheets apart and store them in my drawers. You may find some ideas on how to store embellishments and stickers in Wookiemouse's organisational challenge. embellishmentsstickers and rub ons

The best organizing tip I could give is to know yourself and your scrapping style and then organize from there. Try to discern if you think in terms of color (I need a blue patterned paper) or manufacturer (that October Afternoon paper would be just what this layout needs). That will determine whether color or manu organization is better for you. Once you know that, you can sort thru what you've already got, purge what you no longer love, and then sort the rest into order. My papers are sorted by color, one Iris bin per color. Those Iris bins hold about 300 sheets per box and if you get them with a 40 off coupon, they're not very expensive.
There are certain things you will want to keep together by category, such as a big stash of enamel dots or brads, and for some things like stickers, binder storage will work better than bins do. You have to look at the shape and size of the product to determine what works within your space. This is where knowing your style and preference is crucial. If you need to visually see what you've got before you can create, you'll need transparent bins for being easily visible when needed and easy to stack when stored.
And I do what chinagirl does: on the newer products, I keep a small misc basket of them to use bits and pieces of. When the "newness" has worn off, I break up the remaining bits and send them into their places within my scrap area. I make a lot of kits so that always helps too in getting newer product onto the page with the older goodies.
I haven't really bought too much in the past few years, just a few new embellies and decorative brads here and there. When I got organized, I went for broke: I took it all down and spread it out and then I got ruthless in my purging before pulling it back into a cohesive whole. But once I got organized, I realized I truly have almost everything I need, except for adhesive and more adhesive.
I found less is more when I finally got my stuff together. i hope you find something that works for you.

everything. I have alot of organization in my room but too much to do. cannot keep everything organized all the time. I need some ideas for stickers/embellishments. I have my die cuts/stamps organized, my ribbon is organized, my washi tape is organized my pens and ink pads all organized. I think it goes back to how you "think" when you are crafting as others have stated. If you think in terms of color, then group the embellishments together by color, if you think in terms of theme, then group them like that. In terms of storage, I like the Iris 12x12 containers or other smaller ones depending on the volume and size of your items. I also like the "Really Useful" containers because they stack nicely and have the locking lid. I'm a fairly simple scrapbooker, so although I don't have loads of embellishments, I do like stickers. So I have my paper and stickers grouped together by theme (baby, fall, winter, spring, summer, football, baseball, cross country/track, preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, cub scouts, boy scouts, etc). I have the 12x12 Iris containers labeled and I stack them. For my PL and other journaling cards or divided page protector inserts, I have them in the 9L Really Useful boxes. I put a piece of foam board to divide the container in half width-wise. I bought some larger recipe card box dividers and labeled them by the name of the kit or by theme/color. I have the 4x6 cards in the back of each individual section and the 3x4 cards in front of those (in two rows). My storage is fairly simple because I have paper, stickers, maybe 5 rolls of washi tape, my tombow markers, my Pampered Chef carousel to hold pens, pencils, TH tiny attacher, scissors, etc. I have my paper and cardstock in two Thirty One file n fold containers. I have my page protectors stored in a Thirty One storage cube. I have my 10 or so full size stamp pads in a small plastic Really Useful container and the little ink pads in a Darice bead organizer and the ink dauber pad for each mini pad is in the bottom of the ink pad itself.

ITA with everyone who said consider how you scrap before doing anything. It will do you no good to sort items by color if you think in terms of manufacturer or theme when you're scrapping. I'm a theme and event scrapper primarily, that's how I think. I buy things for particular projects, and (almost) everything is stored by themes in Iris bins no matter what it is. Patterned paper, stickers, embellishments, whatever, if I bought it for the purpose of using for DD's 5th birthday photos for example, it all goes in one bin along with any sketches and/or photos I might have printed. That way when I go to scrap those photos, most of what I need is contained to that one bin. If I have a lot of stuff for a particular category, I'll split it into two (or more) bins with one for paper and flat stickers and another for packaged embellishments or lumpier packs of things.
Generic supplies like cardstock I have all together on a shelf, generic things like buttons or brads are sorted by color and type in Artbin divided acrylic bead boxes. If I'm looking for something small to go on a layout, I never think "I need something yellow," I always think "I need a button here" so it makes more sense to sort my items that way too.
