We are considering taking a cruise next January - we homeschool so we aren't tied to school vacations. Hubby and I are big Disney fans because our experience is their customer service is unparalleled. Also, we have some serious food allergies and I know they take it seriously. However, RCCL seems to get food issues according to cruisecritic and celiac boards. RCCL activities seems like they will appeal more to my 11 & 13 year olds. My other big concern with RCCL is all the "add-on" charges compared to Disney.
So if you have done both, can you help with your feedback? Thanks, Tonya

We have cruised both of those lines and a few more. Personally I would only cruise with my kids on Disney. We went last year with a 4 and 16 year old and we all had a blast. My 16 year old went on a Princess cruise to Alaska this summer and he was so disappointed in the cruise aspect (club, teen area's, planned things, etc.) but he loved Alaska. We LOVED our Disney cruise and are considering planning another one.
My youngest doesn't have any allergies but has pretty severe oral sensory issues and they did amazing with it all week. They went above and beyond.
If it were me I would go with Disney.

I haven't been on rccl but Disney is awesome! We cruises with my niece who had a peanut allergy and were able to eat at the buffet because anything she wanted they'd go get Her a serving that had not been on the buffet. I'm sure you can understand how amazing that is. Everything is pretty much included but alcohol (you are allowed to bring your own which is unique), excursions and tips, all of which are not included I'm other lines. You can pay an up charge to dine at an adults only restaurant, I recommend the chocolate souffle if you do. Basically unless you buy a lot of drinks, excursions or souvenirs you can very easily control how much your vacation costs.I liked that a lot. We just went on a 2 week Panama canal cruise which was a great deal, they even hosted a princess tea party completely free of additional charge and gave each child a crown and a sash if they wanted, I'm guessing other cruise lines don't have that, Disney only offers that on longer cruises, they didn't have it on the 7 day. The best tip if you can wait to book is to check out gty rates, they offer them a month or two before sailing, basically you have to pay in full and cannot pick a specific room but can pick a category like outside only, or verandah only. The people we ate with only paid $999 per adult for a two week cruise! Childrens rates remain the same. If we go again I'm going to try that, I just had paid in full when I figured out what a great deal those gty rates were!

My 11 and 13 yo's had a great time on RCCL. They didn't really do the kids/teen club stuff. They went once, decided they didn't like it and left. They just loved the freedom of roaming the ship by themselves and doing all the activities. Swimming, ice skating, ziplining, ping pong, flow riders, mini golf, etc. They were off on their own pretty much all day when we were at sea. We just checked in with them several times throughout the day.
Haven't done a Disney cruise though, just parks...

We went on our first cruise this past June on rccl. My kids are 13 and 16. They didn't do a lot with the teen club but had a blast anyways. I know the menu in the main dining room was very specific about which menu items were special (gluten-free, lactose-free, good for diabetic, etc) I have never been on a Disney cruise but have heard great things about them. (We just aren't into Disney)I doubt you will go wrong with either one! Have fun on your cruise!!!!

We've been on both multiple times. My 8 year old prefers Disney, but the others preferred RCCL. It makes a big difference though which RCCL ship you sail. I would go on a newer ship with flow rider and ice skating rink. Oasis class is amazing for everyone. If you and your hubby want to gamble, Disney doesn't have a casino.
