I haven't posted one of these for a while, though I do get out most weekends and always get something. No photos yet, as my desk top computer just died, and that's the one I use for uploading and editing photos.
Today was a community-wide sale in a nearby town. The day started off well, and I spent $7 at the first sale we stopped at, at a church along the way. I bought two beautiful, full, well made feather boas, one in green and black, and one in turquoise. I love boas for boudoir/glamour photography. I also got a pair of black, opera length gloves, a pair of black gloves with faux leopard cuffs, and a white and grey faux fur wrap. Lots of photo props.
I was lucky enough to find some of the things I have been on the look out for. One was a 20" leg lamp a la Christmas Story. That is dh's favourite Christmas movie. A couple of years ago I found a leg lamp night light that I gave him for a stocking stuffer and he loved it. If he hadn't been with me, I would have kept this lamp for him as a Christmas gift. I was happy to pay $4 for it and didn't even haggle on the price.
The same sale had fake designer purses, something else I'd specifically been looking for, for photo props (and to use). She had Prada, Chanel and LV, and was only asking $1 a piece. I bought all three, and they are decently made, for fakes.
I have been longing for a vintage vanity set for ages, but have never seen one offered for sale here. I was prepared to pay up to $20, should I ever happen to come across one. Today I found a beautiful set (brush and mirror, don't know if this one didn't have a comb, or if the comb was lost at some point) marked $5, that I got for $4. I am really thrilled with it, it is heavy and well made and in beautiful condition.
I bought a new in box set of three Nicholas Sparks novels that I will give to dd for Christmas, for fifty cents for the set. I bought her two more of his books for $1 that she can have now.
Just this past week I had been browsing Amazon, working on my Christmas wish list, and thinking that I'd like to start getting The Rockford Files on DVD. Lo and behold someone had the entire series, six box sets, asking $4 a season. I paid $20 for the complete set.
I paid $1 for half a dozen vintage handkerchiefs, and a vintage Italian silk gold and brown houndstooth pattern scarf.
I found an Eddie Bauer backpack for fifty cents, in good condition.
Dh had recently been looking for new sneakers in the stores. He found a pair of Reeboks for $1.50, in great shape.
I picked up four round, rusty red dinner plates for $2, and four square, sage green salad plates for $2. I already had larger white square plates for an earlier sale this season, and now have the three stacked as place settings on the dinner table.
Another thing I had thought I might keep an eye out for this season was cigar boxes, to use as photo props and decor items. They are usually priced more than I am willing to pay. Today I found some for twenty-five cents a box, and a couple had tubes in them as well. I bought six.
There were other things as well, but those the best deals, neatest things, and things I had specifically been hoping to find.
So, did anyone else get out this weekend? Visit the thrift store? Hold a sale of your own? Please share!

I've been wondering where you've been heartcat. Sounds like you did well again. Tag sales have been pretty sparse around here lately. I'm sure it's because of the heat.
This weekend I only bought stuff from one tag sale: a box of Legos for $5 which included a couple of sets, loose pieces, and be still my heart at least a dozen of the little figures. Included in the Legos was a fortune our wise peas assure me was meant for me "A nice cake is waiting for you." Yeah, I'll be going to the store later. I also got a handmade Sterling bracelet for 25 cents, and a beautiful blue Pyrex bowl in fantastic condition for 75 cents.
Last week I bought my sister five mini perfume bottles on a glass tray for $2. They are too cute. I haven't seen her yet but I know she's going to love them. A bag of vintage Fischer Price people and furniture for $1. A new, unused rubber stamp with the $16.99 price tag still on it for 25 cents.
I second what heartcat said. Tell us about your adventures and your finds. I'd love to hear about it.

Eastcoastpea, some great finds. The Legos was a wonderful deal. And that is funny about the fortune. Too bad it's just a cake in your future though, and not a lottery win, lol! I would have bought the mini perfume bottles. I hope your sis enjoys them. Is there perfume in them already...as in are they miniature versions, or are they empty and you fill them with your choice of perfume? Thanks for sharing, I love reading what others have found.

I LOVE reading these threads and reading what people find! I have a close friend that does tag sales ALL the time. She's a history major and really has a good eye for vintage stuff. She lives more than an hour and a half from me and in an area that has tons of sales. I live in the boonies and there's never good finds around here. Even the thrift stores around here have very little.

Heartcat, I agree, a lottery win would be sweet. The perfume bottles are mini versions of the full size bottles. They are all different but they are all Geurlain perfumes. They are all still full of perfume as well.
Brandy, keep your eyes open and keep the faith. One of these days you are going to stumble across some amazing finds. And, when you do, come back and tell us all about them.

I love yard sales, but haven't been to many this year since DH is my shopping buddy and he's been gone most weekends for work.
There is a lady in our neighborhood who has sales usually twice a year, and the last time she had one (about a month ago), I scored a huge Longaberger Boardwalk basket like this, but with a navy blue liner, for $30.00:
She emails me when she's going to have another sale and I always make time to go-her garage looks like a hoarder's paradise and she always has great things.

When we have tag sales they are always multifamily. There are between 2 to 5 families participating, usually 3, every time. The amount of stuff is crazy. Each year we rotate whose house it is going to be at. When it's at my sisters she has to call a senior lady who gave my sister not only her home phone number but her cell phone number too. She is a nice lady who is always so excited to see us.

I love garage sales and usually hit a few every week. Today I got a fitted king size sheet for $1 and a cute pottery barn bath set (a blue whale rug, white bath towels and wash cloths with a blue whale on the edge) all for $3. I also bought my daughter a new microwave, still in the box, on craigs list for $35. I love bargains. Some of you got some awesome deals today.

No, they are just called that because they are held on the shrine grounds. Some are held in parks and other places. They have lots of different stalls selling anything from samurai helmets and swords to antique tea kettles, pottery, kimono, knick knacks, clothing, etc. It's extremely interesting but like most things in Japan , quite expensive. I'm on my way home now loaded down with a bunch of collectable kokeshi dolls and a couple of kimono.

Way to go vi. I love Pottery Barn stuff. I make a point of not going into the store because I feel like I want most of it. Your daughter must be pretty happy. I hope we see more posts from you in the future on these threads.

I hope we hear more about your treasure hunting in the future.

Brandy, that's too bad that there isn't much in your area. I might have to move, lol!
Eastcoastpea, nice that they have perfume in them. I love perfume, but I am not familiar with that name. I will have to look it up later.
Kokeshi doll, I can only imagine how neat it would be garage saling there! I bet there are a lot of interesting items that we'd never ever see here. How lucky for you!
1lear, I don't mind spending more for a hard to find item that you know is worth much more and wouldn't otherwise likely be able to get. That is a neat looking basket, I love that it is has a lid.
Vi what a steal on the bath set, and it sounds so cute. Nice find on the microwave too. I haven't checked out kijiji (our on line buy and sell site) lately. I wonder what I've been missing.
Thanks, phoenixcov! I hope to get another desk top computer soon so I can upload and process photos again.
Gypsygirl I am unfamiliar with your serving bowl. I am intrigued now and will have to google it. Have fun at your mom's and definitely update us if you bring home any finds!
Thanks for sharing, all. It's funny what a rush I get from hearing about what others have bought, lol.
