Nope. With two people spending money out of the same account, mostly with debit cards, it's just about impossible. I check the online register frequently and sometimes check with DH to be sure a charge is his if I don't recognize it. That's it.

I check my balance online and compare it to my running balance a couple times a week. As long as they're within around $5 of each other I'm ok with that. This is what I do sort of.

Yes, I do.
Fraudsters count on the fact that most people don't anymore. That's why they'll put through small charges to "test" accounts they've gained access to - they know most people won't notice. Then they either come back with a big charge or they continue to do small ones repeatedly over time. You'd be shocked at how long it takes most people to catch that kind of fraud.
ETA: I haven't had a physical register in years. I record all our transactions in the financial software we use and reconcile that to the bank's record of transactions every week or two. I also log in to our accounts a couple times a week for various things.

Nope. No need to. I review the online account daily. If there is something questionable DH and I discuss it immediately and act on it if necessary. We don't even get paper statements, let alone checks.

I haven't had a check book register in 10+ years.
I pay all of my bills online through my banks bill pay service or a couple that get auto drafted. I usually look at my balance & transactions online at least a couple times a week to make sure nothing looks odd.
If I wrote 5 checks in a year that would be a lot. I've lived at this address for 7 years and still don't even have checks with this address on it. And I only bought one box with the old address. Haha

I do now. A few times I've messed myself up thinking there was more $ and forgetting about auto payments.

Yes, I balance to the penny, twice a month when I pay bills. I pay most through my bank's online bill pay or have them withdrawn automatically, but I do occasionally write a check. I enter all the debit payments and check them off as I go through the statement online. Then I check off the point in the register at which it is all balanced, so I know the last balance that was matched to the online record.
When I get a credit card bill I go over all the charges to make sure there are no unknown ones on there.

Yep, I know too many people who have gotten in trouble by not balancing their checkbooks. I do mine at least twice a month sometimes more.

I pay bills online through my bank, and write a few checks when necessary. I still use a register and enter debit card and ATM debits in it, then check against my online account. As long as the amounts in my register and online account are close, I'm good.

No, but I watch the account closely and check off anything that doesn't post instantly.

I do not balance my checkbook. I do look at the online banking statement routinely to see if I have money and look for errors like purchases I didn't make. But I do not check the amount to make sure it is correct.

I do; to the penny. I use a little check mark to know each time the balance is correct. I barely write checks but pay my bills from this account so I use it on a regular basis. Oh and I never use my debit card because that would throw me into I tizzy.

I do, every month. My checkbook is in Excel and has been since 2005 I think. I download the statements from the bank and export in to Excel and go from there. I review every transacation for the month then pay bills.

I use online banking for virtually everything. I log in and check the balance a couple times a week to make sure nothing looks hinky. I keep an approximate balance in my head. I used to dread the chore of reconciling the checks and balance.

Always!
I keep track on a sheet of paper in my chequebook (they don't stock the chequebook registers anymore at my bank). I need to know what our true balance is. There are often things still due to come out, so the true balance is on my sheet, and I tally it every couple of days to make sure we are still on track.

No, don't have a checkbook. Have some loose checks for a rare occasion if needed, but everything is cash or debit or auto pay. Even when there were checkbooks, I was not very diligent. It is amazing that I never had any problems.

No.
I don't really see the point.
I look at it online every other day or so, why would I need to do anything in addition to that.
I don't keep a register or write anything down. The bank does that for me, I don't need to do it, too.

I do keep a written register of all checks written, debit charges, auto withdrawals and all deposits and try to balance with the online record ever so often. My brother who is president of a bank thinks I'm crazy for keeping the written register.

Yes - Always! If I'm off a few cents I don't try to find it, I just make an adjusting entry to force it to balance. I've found mistakes where I have neglected to enter a transaction or DH has neglected to tell me he debited something. I can't imagine not balancing my check book, or not keeping a register! ^^^this! mine never balances to the penny...

I used to but since I can check my balance online I check it there daily just to make sure there aren't any charges.

Yes, every month. I also mark where the correct balance is, so if I do have an error, I know how far back I need to go. I check the online balance multiple times a week, so balancing takes 10 minutes or so.

I haven't written a cheque in years so there is never anything pending. I check my account a couple of times a week on line to make sure nothing strange is happening and to see my balance.
I see no need to keep a running balance.

I work at a bank and I haven't had a checkbook register for YEARS. It is too easy these days to log into online banking to account for spending. I keep a mental tally in my head for my balance and mostly use cash on a daily basis. We don't write a single check for any bills and may only write a handful the entire year for other incidentals.

I do exactly what you do. Scan the account transactions online every few days to see if anything weird is on there then call it good.

No, not anymore. With online banking, it is extremely easy to keep up with our account. We rarely write checks and debit card usage is posted quickly.

Yes. But it's done on the computer vs. an actual checkbook (thank goodness). Also do the same for our credit cards.
