No, but DH does, every month, to the penny. Most checks are paid on line so I don't write many checks, but I still keep a paper check register. I'm old school.

Oh I'm old school too! I keep a paper register and probably write 10 checks a month. My hubby & I use debit cards, and he puts his receipts in a basket so I can reconcile everything. I do it once a week or so.

Yes, about twice a month.

I am an accountant, so yeah, I reconcile. DH and I have a joint checking account and sometimes he forgets to give me a debit card purchase slip so this gets things all caught up and doesn't take more than 5 minutes of my time in Quicken. (Holding and color are mine). Another accountant here, and this is the reason my husband does not have a debit/ATM card for our joint account! I keep our personal account in QuickBooks and reconcile it several times a week

I do it once a month, when I pay bills.
I sort of enjoy it, actually. It satisfies the number cruncher in me.

Nope. DH or I check every couple days to make sure what we've used our debit cards for has gone through and there's nothing suspicious. We so rarely write checks and there's an image online when the check clears.

I don't. I use a CC with rewards to pay for close to all of my daily expenses (bill is checked and paid off monthly). I write a check maybe once every month or two, and very very rarely use my debit card (mainly just at Costco). I do use online bill pay for utilities, etc. so I just check my checking account when I log in to pay bills. For me this had made my life a lot easier.

I don't even keep a register anymore. We use a credit card for everything and it is paid monthly. I review the activity online for suspicious activity, but that is all. We are such creatures of habit I pretty much know what is going to be showing there, so any strange transactions are easy to spot.

I haven't balanced the checkbook (joint account) in over 10 years. For the 10 years prior to that, I probably only balanced once a quarter or so. We rarely write checks for anything other than very routine bills. I check the balance pretty regularly and look at the statement each month to make sure that there isn't anything on there that shouldn't be.
We keep a high enough balance that I'm not afraid of bouncing a check, and if we did have an overdraft, we would get notice fairly quickly. We don't have overdraft protection because I don't want someone compromising my account and running up a bunch of overdrafts before we found out.
We have never had an overdraft in almost 23 years of marriage, so I guess it just isn't something that we worry about too much.

I balance my checkbook monthly. To the penny. I do too, and sometimes that missing penny is very frustrating to find. It would be easier to just skip it, but I don't think I can after all these years.

Not only do I balance our checking account, I keep a separate excel spreadsheet with all our credit card purchases.

Nope never anymore, but I do look at it a least every two days. Will look at serval time a day for while since my husband card was stolen, did get it stopped. The person that stole it was not smart enough to run. It as a credit, since he did not know the pi [HASH] he could get know money.

yes all the time. My son thought it wasnt needed. Well he keeps using his banks balance and its not always correct/current. I put things down in my check register days, some times weeks before the check/payment goes through. So the bank thinks I have money to spend. When you don't.

Nope. I have no record of anything except for the internet. I check and see if I have money in the checking account, transfer money between accounts, and pay bills online.

I could have written your post. Ditto, including no longer even keeping the running balance. I DO record checks written though....

I check my account online daily. I rarely write checks. With DH traveling most of the time and using his debit card, I like to check what he spends. I don't get paper statements anymore-it's all posted online.

Yes - Always! If I'm off a few cents I don't try to find it, I just make an adjusting entry to force it to balance. I've found mistakes where I have neglected to enter a transaction or DH has neglected to tell me he debited something. I can't imagine not balancing my check book, or not keeping a register!

My husband dies the main account in quicken. I have a small account that I just watch online. I rarely take money out so it's easy to manage that way.

I use Quickbooks and once a week, I sit down and pay any bills that have come in online, and check the balances in all my accounts, comparing them to what I show in Quickbooks.

May I ask why people balance outside of the online bank details? I would think it is the same information?

I do and I also check the running balance a couple times a week. I have caught discrepancies several times that were in my favor. I also have a DH that can go a little crazy with the debit card unless I reel him back, lol.

When I got married 17 years ago, my husband was appalled that I didn't balance my checkbook very often. So I started to do so. It was such a nightmare. In the end, if the numbers were off, it was always a miscalculation on my part.
Once I started internet banking, all that has gone to the wayside again. When I go online to pay bills, I check to see if there is anything that looks out of whack. Other than that, I'm good to go!

This is one area where I am totally OCD - I balance my Quicken every week. I check my online balance daily and then every weekend balance to it. It drives DH crazy but it's just one of those things I need to do to make my day managable.
