There have been more posts than usual, chatting about the dirty dirty and I've noticed some questions that are pretty common sprinkled throughout those posts so I thought i'd open a post for anyone who wants to chat about well... anything.
If there is one thing I've learned in the last 7 years it's that there are a lot of questions and issues and they aren't necessarily things that women are talking to their doctors about.
So, if you want to chat, let's chat! If I don't know the answer or haven't researched something, I'm happy to find out for you. My company is part of one of the largest organizations doing research on women's sexual health and I've been honored to sit on the Senior Board of Directors for the last 4 years so I've had incredible opportunities to meet with researchers, doctors, professionals and thousands of women and I'm happy to share whatever information I can with you.
I'm working online today and then road tripping tomorrow so i'll have more time than usual to help and I know we've got some other women on this board that are super knowledgeable and would likely be happy to share.
Anyone have anything you want to discuss?

I saw that someone was asking what the refractory period is. Simple terms, it's natures cock block. After sex,a lot of women can be ready to go for round two, but it's not so easy for men. The refractory period is a time after ejaculation when a man can't physically get an erection again. Sometimes it can be for a few seconds (lucky girl) or sometimes it can be a few days. Every man experiences some sort of refractory period but the timing can vary depending on the person, and even the day. Ejaculation puts the body into overdrive and slows dopamine and testosterone production which forces the body to 'chill out' as it releases more serotonin which also blocks arousal.
Some studies show that intercourse releases up to 400x more of these chemicals than masturbation so most men are able to masturbate more often than they are able to have intercourse.
Orgasm and ejaculation are different so with practice some men are able to orgasm without ejaculation giving them the ability to have multiple orgasms and last longer. It takes time and patience, but if he is able to master it, look out!
If the time between is causing issues in your relationship, maybe your partner is finishing first and you're left hanging remember an erection isn't necessary to achieve orgasm...other body parts and toys can be an important tool when it comes to making sure that everyone gets their seratonin release for a good nights sleep.
As men age, ,the refractory period typically gets longer, usually nothing to be concerned about but if it worries you it's always best to seek a doctors advice to rule out any medical issues.

I may not want to know this answer but, recently I was watching an episode of RHOOC and someone's daughter said she wanted to "toss the salad" while holding a bowl of salad. The parents kept cracking up that their daughter wanted to "toss the salad". I figured it was some kind of sexual term. So what is "tossing the salad"?

What percentage of women do you think orgasm from intercourse? I've heard it's not that high but seems like men think it's pretty common and get butt hurt if it doesn't happen.

What percentage of women do you think orgasm from intercourse? I've heard it's not that high but seems like men think it's pretty common and get butt hurt if it doesn't happen. Planned Parenthood says 1 in 3 women struggle with having an orgasm during sex. Research and reporting varies, but the most common number I've read and heard tends to be about 80% that can't achieve orgasm with intercourse/vaginal stimulation alone. There are a lot of men who tend to get a little butthurt if their partner isn't able to orgasm with them, but the numbers are pretty small for achieving orgasm during intercourse and even smaller for simultaneous orgasm. There are a lot of ways to increase the chances of orgasming during intercourse, but there will always be some women who just can't. The more you know your body, the better off you are. 30-45% of women have some sort of female sexual dysfunction which makes it a struggle to achieve orgasm at all. This is an area where we spend a ton of money researching along with vulvodynia (chronic genital pain without a specific diagnosed cause) which has over 200k cases diagnosed each year with no real funding or research into why. Our mission is to change that! |

I'm interested to know how menopause affects all things 'sex' from people with experience of it. My husband is a good bit younger than me and I'd like to have some inkling of what to expect. I worry that we are going to be at such different stages in life that it might cause problems.
