They look delicious, and I am going to make some for dessert tonight (topped with ice cream and amaretto cherry sauce).
I've found two different ways to make them online.
One just says to make the brownies as usual and just "bake" them in the waffle maker. The other way, which I saw on facebook, makes some changes to the recipe before baking them. Now I can't find the one from facebook (thought I shared it but apparently didn't), and I don't remember the directions.
Before I just go with the regular prep, I thought I would get some peadvice. Has anyone else made these? If so, did you alter the recipe or just go with the directions on the box?
Thanks!

I made them for Father's Day for DH. I made the brownies according to the box and baked in the waffle iron. They looked nice but were awful to eat (though no one in my family complained!). They took forever to cook, were soft and mushy and nearly impossible to take out of the waffle iron intact (even keeping 1/4 in tact was almost impossible), and then after they had sat and cooled off, they were rock-hard. I don't think I overbaked them as I waited until they were just set enough to hold together so I could get them out of the waffle iron.
IF I ever try these again I'd look for a recipe that makes alterations to the brownie mix. Not sure what would be needed -- maybe more egg and oil?? To keep them together and moister?
Anyway, honestly, I'd probably just make a pan of brownies in the future. The novelty of having waffle-shaped brownies was greatly overshadowed by how unpleasant they were to eat.

Sounds like a fun dessert. Have you tried searching at Allrecipes for it?

They sound delicious, but I can see how they'd be a crumbly mess.

No but I make chocolate cookies in my waffle iron that are a lot like brownies. The recipe is in the recipe section of this board.

The recipe I saw eliminated most of the water and kept the oil and egg, I think.
Darn. Now I'm going to have to go on a google hunt (the first one wasn't that successful because it gave me lots of recipes from scratch and I have a mix I want to get out of my pantry). Or maybe I should just keep scrolling back through facebook, but that is a huge time sucker LOL.

No, I never have, but it sounds like a fabulous idea. Think I'll go on a Google search too. If you find anything, please report back. I have a box of brownie mix I'd love to use up too

I saw a video on Chow.com that to do the brownies in the iron, you have to use more eggs. The example they used was if the recipe called for one, use three. Everything else was the same. I'm going to try it, but haven't yet. They did biscuits (can kind) and used them for strawberry shortcakes and filled with nutella for a pocket pie. I did try those and they were great. They said to cook the brownies for 2-3 mins and the biscuits cooked in about 90 seconds. Did I say they were awesome? Cause they definitely were.
ETA: Change two to three. They used a box mix.

Rachael Ray says make them according to package EXCEPT omit any water milk I just found those directions, too. I googled with "mix" in the search instead of just recipe and that was one of the first links.
I seriously need to work on my google skills LOL.

Did you have to add a lot of oil to the waffle iron? The comments under the Rachel Ray directions mentioned that they still might stick, and some comments recommended making sure there was plenty of oil on the iron (mine is "nonstick" but I always oil anyway).
So did the nutella leak out when you closed the waffle iron? Or do you have one with interchangeable plates that will also make pocket sandwiches? I think I MIGHT still have a pocket sandwich maker somewhere in the basement--might be worth a look.

No, they used Pam and they didn't stick. I also used a Pam-like spray and my bisuits didn't stick either. You only put 1-2 teaspoon or so of the nutella and pinch the biscuit around it in a half-circle. And, nope, it didn't leak. The nutella was all warm and liquidy. It was yummy! We used the flaky biscuits and decided that if we did it again we would use half (of the layers) the biscuit so we could make more pies out of a can of biscuits.

I have a family brownie pie recipe that we love and use often and we did try them in the waffle iron but it didn't work. I think it was because these brownies are really gooey.... I do think a box brownie mix might work great. I did see on Rachael Ray she did brownies in the waffle iron and they looked like they turned out nice.... but that was on tv.....

Do you think it would help to make brownies rather than use the boxed kind? You could definitely play with the ingredients and make it the consistency you want.
