I love love love to read the comments on Facebook when a newspaper article is posted. Sometimes there is a feature of the 2 most wanted people. -Why don't they lock up *Jensen*? Every few months he's back in prison. -WTF, dude *Jensen* you are better than this! -He will never do that -He's probably hiding at his mom's or grandma's house or with druggie friends. -They should look at his girlfriend * first, middle, & last name* A car accident, no one died, survivors not listed. -Who was involved? -(tag friend so they can see the story), it's *Jerikezibldee's* ex! -(tagged friend) fu**n! A! -maybe they should drive more careful -and she doesn't have insurance My favorite is the news from a much smaller town: Sunday night *Ethel* watched the NBA finals game 7 "It was wonderful" *Ethel* enthuses. "It was a franchise record in the NBA and the first ever come back from a team down 3-1 and come down to win. I loved every minute of it." *Ethel* is the contributor of that town's news. Is anyone else entertained by dumb things!

I seriously love this too! My hometown Facebook is the same!
They post a photo of someone stealing on Walmart security. Someone tags another person. "Hey, isn't this your cousin, *name listed*". No, he's in jail. "Oh no! What for?" Crime listed.
It's hysterical to me!

We used to drive all the way across Nebraska several times a year. We would often catch a local radio station's news on the radio. I remember enjoying it. Big news when a wreath was stolen off of a door at Christmas. I also liked stupid criminal reports on David Letterman.

People immediately noticed the family on the Facebook page and he was arrested. But dammit, they took the video down before I had a chance to look!

Yes, I love reading the crime reports. They mostly involve things like kids ringing doorbells and running off.

I confess to love reading our local weekly "Police Blotter" column, which is largely car accidents with headlines like "Car vs Deer" or "Car vs Flagpole." We do have some local Facebook sites that can be very snarky too, especially around budget season.

Our town is about 10,000 people. Our paper is weekly. The police blotter is usually one of the following:
Dead squirrel reports (yes, the police will pick them up).
"Suspicious pedestrians" (code for person of color) who are usually escorted to the city line.
Someone dressed in a utility company uniform in neighbor's backyard (always a person who actually works for the utility).
My favorite report was a head on collision that turned out to be someone jumping someone else's car battery.
Yes...it's a slow town. God forbid there should be an actual crime. I don't think they'd know what to do.

We get the police blotter too. Our town does not have a fb page, but that would be cool. My town is less than 1700, but if you add the three closest towns, that jumps to about 5000.
Most of the crimes are traffic violations (speeding).
When there is something big, two to three of the town police will respond. One just had a stabbing and last year there was a fight over a parking spot at a high school football game.

Our local newspaper is a joke. I can not take them the least bit seriously, because they can't even take spelling seriously.
I've heard that the town's FB page is quite entertaining. Not interested in finding out.

Ahhh...the joys of living in a small town. DH and I used to have weekly contests to see which one of us had more relatives in the arrest reports. It was generally a dead heat.

My tiny town is usually pretty boring. Lots of domestic disputes and checking on the welfare listings in the police blotter. The last thing of interest on FB was when 2 pit bulls were loose and terrorizing the city. One was shot when he charged the cop, then supposedly ran off only to later wander back home with a bullet in his face. Big hulabaloo and of course the owners setup a gofundme for his medical expenses, that didn't help.

I grew up in small town MN. Our newspaper came out once a week on Wednesday afternoon. If you subscribed, it was in your mail on Thursday morning. There was a column called *Hometown* Town Talks. It was a listing of all the get togethers that happened in town during the past week.
The Miller family gathered at Shorty's house to celebrate Wayne's birthday on Sunday.
Ethel Smith's sister, Edith, was out to visit from the Twin Cities for the week.
Blah, blah, blah...
It took up 1/4 of the page and everything was there. You couldn't do anything in town without Gladys noticing. When Gladys retired, Cherry took over.
I love watching my hometown newspapers FB page. The comments are like sitting around listening to the gossip at the cafe. I don't need to live there to know exactly what's happening.

I don't live in a small town, but love reading the police blotter when visiting small towns. My favorite was "Police respond to multiple reports of man lying in gutter on the side of road. Police report man was fine, lying in puddle to cool off. It was hot."

Our paper now has 3 different "neighborhood happenings". I like when people get together, and it ends with "and a good time was had by all!"

My favorite from when we lived in a small town was a police blotter entry (on the radio):
"The fire department was dispatched for a large grass fire reported by several callers. It was determined to be fog." ONE person making that mistake is ridiculous enough. Several???
(I should also note that it was February on the Oregon coast, so the chances that anything outside could burn were really really low.)

My aunt was in a car accident and the newspaper report listed her age. She was SO mad that people would know how old she was!

I live in a large city, but the Nextdoor site for our neighborhood has that small-town-paper feel to it, right down to the "suspicious pedestrian" sightings. It's gotten to the point where a black resident with a sense of humor will post, "Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to be walking through the neighborhood to get to the bus stop - don't be alarmed - just say hi."
We also frequently have reports of "gunfire" that are mostly likely either a truck backfiring or kids playing with leftover firecrackers, because for all the "gunfire" people hear, there is a noticeable lack of bodies lying around.

Not in our town's paper (we don't have an online or fb page), but our police chief did something minor but stupid and there was a story about it on the tv station up in the city. Nearly all of the comments on the station's story were from people he's arrested at least once. One guy kept saying he was an "ordained minister" and how many rules the chief had broken blah blah blah; I had to refrain myself from posting the link to his state prison record (public information).

Loved this column. It reminded me of my small town newspaper when I was a kid. Loved hearing all the coming and goings of local people. We had one for years that reported visits from people from out of town. It has been gone for years.

When I was a kid u had no idea how silly it could be. My cousin came from Kansas City for the holidays and while he was visiting our local paper published that the "Smith" family had a large family gathering for Thanksgiving dinner and then listed what they ate and that so many people came they had to rent the church hall. He laughed and laughed and took the paper home. Hah. I had no idea that wasn't normal!

Love those small town newspapers! DH grew up in a town of less than 2,000 in MS. The paper came out every Wed. and was filled with all kinds of craziness! There was even a regular "Gossip Column". The lady who wrote it knew my MIL and without fail, every single time we went to visit it would make the newspaper! As in "J&T were in town to visit his parents this past weekend. They enjoyed a fish fry with the XYZ and ABC families." I really wish now that I had saved some of those columns! Save I live in a large city, but the Nextdoor site for our neighborhood has that small-town-paper feel to it, right down to the "suspicious pedestrian" sightings. It's gotten to the point where a black resident with a sense of humor will post, "Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to be walking through the neighborhood to get to the bus stop - don't be alarmed - just say hi." We also frequently have reports of "gunfire" that are mostly likely either a truck backfiring or kids playing with leftover firecrackers, because for all the "gunfire" people hear, there is a noticeable lack of bodies lying around. All we seem to get on our NextDoor is people shaming others if there are pets lost or loose, or squabbling over who gets to take the stray dog to which rescue group. The best was when one woman made a very passive aggressive post about people cutting down old trees in their yards and that it should not be allowed. Turns out her neighbor behind her was cutting down an old oak. That neighbor was a lot nicer in dressing her down than I would have been! Now they are having a squabble over a request to take long discussions into private Groups.

My small town's FB page is hilarious. In between the "can anyone recommend (insert a type of medical practice here)" posts are questions like: "does CVS have cameras outside? Someone left a sandwich on my car and I want to find out who did that."

GFC AT There was a camera flash. It was a little gloomy and rainy and so the color and shadows were tweaked (or photoshopped) so that you could see Bones and the fish. It does make him look "cut out" a bit. But it's the real deal. He got me out of bed on Saturday to take the pic. Like · Reply · 2 · 1 June at 06:42 · Edited

It goes on an on about how he had to throw one of the two back because of daily limits of fish over 20". It was classic small town.

I had been at a friend's house in a tiny Nova Scotia town for a day when someone called for details as to who I was. My friend hung up the phone laughing and asked if I wanted her to send me a copy of next week's paper because I was going to be in the Who's in Town column . I really miss our local newspaper and the letters to the editor. There were several regulars who weighed in on the politics of our small beach town and would have heated conversations back and forth with each other through the paper. It was kind of like a super slow message board thread where you had to wait a day of two for replies.

Like I daid, my town is too small for a paper, but there is one for the rural area I live in (it is probably 40 miles n/s and 20 or more e/w).
My favorite thing they do is print the entire senior class's senior photos from the various school districts. So there are 6 or so pages with Congratulations School 2016 Senior Class! And then each picture and name is there. It is a nice keepsake.
