Already just saying UGH! Probably TMI, but had one 3 years ago, and I wasn't all cleaned out with the prep, so necessary to do it again. This prep is 2 days of 4 Ducolax tabs and 10 oz of Magnesium Citrate. I got the lemon flavor. I did a search but didn't seem much about taking the Magnesium Citrate. Any words of wisdom?

I didn't mind the citrate. It's not bad at all. My only words of wisdom is to eat lightly a couple days before.

Good luck!! I'll be scheduling mine next spring. I'm not really looking forward to it but with my dad being diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 50 and passing away at age 51, it's necessary.

After having 7-8 in the last 10 years, I'm happy the dr. said I don't have to have one this year. Seems my old dr. was a little over zealous in the colonoscopy department. My preps have gone pretty well, as far as cleaning out, as long as you take all the meds and drink EXTRA fluids. Last year I don't think I drank enough fluids and I got sick on the way to the hospital. Luckily my sister pulled over in time. I think I didn't stir the powder meds (can't remember what it was) enough and it was sitting in my stomach. I also suggest putting on a maxi pad in case you don't reach the toilet in time.

The prep is the worse part...but explore all those options because some are easier than others. The procedure is nothing.

I have a really difficult time drinking in general...I rarely feel thirsty and it takes a lot of effort just to drink enough water each day. And drinking something that doesn't taste good? Super sensitive gag reflex here. Not a good mix. BUT - I also know that I can EASILY go 2-3 days eating barely nothing and just drinking water. I figure if I can do that combined with some laxatives (hopefully something that doesn't require gallons of liquid being consumed), I should be ok.

My only words of wisdom is to eat lightly a couple days before. Yep, this. If you can do a mostly liquid diet for the day before, even better. It helps so much.

I had mine 2 weeks ago, day one of prep for me was easy, but at 3am I started to get a migraine(I think from dehydration although I thought I drank enough) and when I had to do my 2nd round of prep at 5 am I vomited it all up, and was soo sick all the way there and had to be taken in in a wheel chair but the procedure itself was easy peasy.

I used lemon juice in the bottom of the glass and sucked on a lemon before drinking and after. The lemon seemed to sweeten the stuff and made it easier too drink rather than just thick nasty liquid. I just chugged it down so the sweetness helped. I also kept lemon drops to suck on between drinks.
I can't use a straw because it takes longer to drink. I also put the liquid in the fridge as soon as I got it so it was ice cold.

Get it ICE COLD and use a straw!~ I never thought of using a straw, what a good idea. I found the prep the worse part of the whole ordeal. I had to take two doses of the purge (don't remember what it was) and that almost did me in. It tasted so bad I thought I would throw up, it did smell nice like orange jello or something but did not live up to that smell. I had to put my purge in the fridge because it got hot while I was stirring. My doctor put me on restricted diet the day before, the day of and the day after. And I was told to drink as much liquid as I could manage and they suggested things like Gatorade. Good luck. I have to go back in three years instead of the normal five years, lucky me.

I have to go for the scheduling appointment next week. I hope they still prescribe Su-prep cause I took that 3 years ago and it didn't taste real bad and it was only 2 cups of it. One at night and one in the morning.

Drinking the prep is the hardest part. The procedure is easy. I wish for you a normal, healthy colon.

Eat lightly a day or two before...this really helps a lot!
Drink as much fluid as you can if whatever they tell you that you can have. If you don't think you drink anymore, donut anyway. 😬
Have some broth or hot tea...all the cold liquid can chill you fast. And you do want the prep cold So there's not much taste. During one of my preps being so cold triggered a migraine.
Have your laptop loaded with movies or Netflix.
Have wet wipes handy. You'll get sore.
Loose clothes for the day of.
I've had over 50 colonoscopies from age 10 to now. These are the top tips that will really help.

My doc had me take a gatorade/miralax prep. Since I could choose any flavor withOUT red food coloring I enjoyed the taste far better than the normal preps.javascript:popSmilies()

I did the Miralax with 2 32oz Gatorade. I didn't have any problems getting it all down. I will say, next time I'll be eating lighter a few days prior. Even with completing all the prep I wasn't completely cleaned out at the appointed hour. Luckily it was good enough to proceed. I did have one abnormal precancerous biopsy result so I'll have to redo in 5 years vs 10. I'll be better prepared this time!

The prep is the worst! Are you drinking only 10oz. in total?! If so, piece of cake! I had to drink like 64oz. The last 30oz. or so was so difficult! Eat very lightly before you start your cleanse, goes so much easier.
Good luck!

I have no advice about the preparation drink itself. My advice is for the bathroom. Have everything you need ready IN the bathroom. I used a Medline Squirt Bottle EVERY time you have a bowel movement irrigate the area clean with warm water, then use toilet tissue to PAT not wipe the area clean. By doing this I had very little to no soreness. I did not use wipes or any other special items. A bidet squirt bottle would work also. I had the medline bottle from the hospital when I had my last baby.

I suggest having some broth or something else not sweet that you can drink. I got very tired of only sweet stuff after a while.
