Well, one was just a summer bucket list item, and one was a life bucket list item.
Today I went to JCP Portraits and had family portraits taken with me & my four kids. It's a first! And I am so, so glad I did. That was the summer bucket list item.
I did my best to coordinate outfits (I think it looked pretty good).
Did I look fat? Absolutely. Jiggly arms, fat thighs, wide tummy? Yup.
Am I in professional pictures with my children? YES!!!!!
The second bucket list item was: I got photos taken of just me there, too. I had wanted to for the longest time, but I either never made the time, or I felt too fat, or I wasn't pretty enough, blah, blah, blah....
Well, I'm not getting any prettier, thinner, etc. This is me. And guess what? She caught my "good side."
She climbed a step stool, did the whole make my face look thinner thing, made sure the chunky statement necklace and bold earrings that I bought for a whopping $7.88 at Walmart just for this occasion were in the shot, and caught the lights in my eyes. And it's so much better than a selfie. And it was someone purposely trying to catch my best side, not just a relative quickly snapping a pic in my general direction because I nag them to.
So, just sharing my happy!
Tell me about your happy today!

I was able to stay home. Granted, I simply refused to leave it, regardless of what I 'should' be doing. Still, I have enjoyed being home.
ETA: Good for you! It sounds as if you had an amazing photographer.

That is great ! I'm glad you got to do the pictures of yourself and your family. I did the same exact thing about 12 years ago and wish I had done it more. It's the only professional picture I have of myself and me with my 3 sons.

Good for you! I'm always the one on the other side of the camera and hate having my picture taken. I need to change that in the near future. I'm currently having some health issues which are putting a lot of things into perspective very quickly.

That is fantastic. I've been wanting to get a photo shoot of just me. I did one about ten years ago, I need another.
My very first Mother's Day when my kids dad asked what I wanted I said pictures. For the first ten years or so of my kids lives every Mother's Day we would have a photo shoot. The last few years have been hit and miss. I've wanted a good family one too.

I was able to stay home. Granted, I simply refused to leave it, regardless of what I 'should' be doing. Still, I have enjoyed being home. Honestly, that sounds heavenly. I'm always the one on the other side of the camera and hate having my picture taken. I need to change that in the near future. I'm currently having some health issues which are putting a lot of things into perspective very quickly. (((hugs))) to you. I hope you are well again soon. And do have photos taken of you. You're worth it! Yay!!!! Will you post a proof for us?! I want to see! I remember you asking for outfit advice for this session and I'm thrilled you're happy with the experience I wish I could, but I don't post pics online for safety reasons. Thank you for remembering me, though! I totally took refupea advice and didn't go matchy-matchy for the clothes, but coordinated navy, a shade of turquoise and white. I even bought myself a turquoise colored statement necklace for $5 at WM and a silver-tone pair of large knot earrings for $2.88 at WM. I wanted jewelry that was big enough to show up in the photo, but didn't want to spend bank on it.

Good for you! I am glad you did it and it sounds like you are too.
My happy today...well actually now is early Friday morning but I will skip back to yesterday. It was a bad day, very bad day. Setting that aside the good in the day was we told our kids about an upcoming family vacation that we have planned. We changed what we normally do for a family vacation and weren't sure we would take one this summer but planned one once everything lined up. Our 7 year old was giddy and our middle ds excited to make the trip too.

I recall when I took my first baby to Penneys and ended up getting a few photos of us together. I was wearing my Air Force uniform because I took him after work after picking him up from the sitter. Those photos are such a treasure and I actually submitted one of them of my son and I to the Women in Military Service data bank when I registered there. If you go there and pull up my name there is the photo of me and my baby!
So along comes DS2 and I want to get pics of him and me. Well before I knew it he was already almost 2. He had a blue and white striped outfit that matched a jumper I had, so I dressed us up and we went and had photos together and I'm so happy because that was 20 years ago and he will always have portraits of just him and me so he will see how loved he was. Although he already knows that. My mom and dad never had portraits with us - I have no portraits of them at all.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it's unlikely we'll ever look better than we do now. At 80 I will look back on 59 and think I looked amazing.

Awesome. I know so many of us women have the same view of getting pictures taken (me included). You have given me some motivation to do this.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SO happy to hear you did photos, both of your family and of you! My parents had exactly one family photo taken and I was probably in 3rd or 4th grade. My father passed away in 2001 and the only other photo we have together is from when he was sick (and he looked it). I REALLY wish we had more photos as a family and some individuals of each of my parents.
