But but but--- that has to be true because I saw it on THE FLINTSTONES. And those dinos were so very helpful with construction work and whatnot. Shame we lost them.

That is a sad indictment of our education system. Please don't only blame the schools. We teach evolution and have had parents tell their children not to believe it and that it's all lies. So, it's not just our system (though it sounds like that could use some work in some areas)! SaveSave

My very favorite part: " Posing for a selfie with a dinosaur, just like Noah did." " In addition, the site has been given $18 million in state tax incentives," WTF!!!! Give that money to schools that teach actual science. That Ark is crazy. And I cannot believe some parents actually take their children there and tell them, "No, really. This is exactly how things happened." I live not far from this... And know people who had to be there for opening day! SMH

If it doesn't stop raining maybe it will float to another state. Oh, no, the thing won't float at all! It wasn't built to float! Then maybe they should have followed the specifications in the Bible a little better.

sigh, what does that say about us? The 7th grade science teacher taught my son about creationism and gave him all the reasons that evolution was a bunch of lies. Took 2.5 years to reverse that ass's teaching. Younger Ds will have him this year and I pretaught him, so we should be good. Older Ds wanted to go to this museum. I told him I'd probably be struck by a giant lightning bolt just by looking at it. DD's 7th grade science teacher took the approach that he was teaching the curriculum, but he was clear with the kids that it didn't align with his personal beliefs. I suspect the kids who were also in his Sunday School class got a different message on Sunday (which is fine). DD has had a lot of these experiences though - we are in a very religiously conservative town - and she takes a lot of things with a grain of salt. I actually grew up in a Southern Baptist church, but it must have been the most liberal SB church in the State, because we were taught that science and religion can co-exist.

I've heard the song... There were cats and rats and elephants But no unicorns because they were off playing silly games Bill Anderson The UnicornA long time ago when the earth was green
Why there was more kinda animals than you've ever seen
And they just run around free while the earth was bein' born
And loveliest of them all was the unicorn.
There was green alligators and long neck geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn/
--- Instrumental ---
Now God seen some sinnin' and it gave him a pain
And he said stand back cause I'm gonna make it rain
He said hey brother Noah I'll tell you what to do
Tou build me a floating Zoo.
And take some green alligators and long neck geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorn.
--- Instrumental ---
Well ol' Noah was there to answer the call
And he finished up makin' the ark just as the rain started to fall
He marched in the animals two by two
And he called out as they went through.
Hey Lord, I got your green alligators and long neck geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But Lord, I'm so forlorn, I just can't see no unicorn.
--- Instrumental ---
And then Noah looked out through the driving rain
And them unicorns were hidin' playin' silly little games
Kickin' and a splashin' while the rain was pourin'
Oh, them silly unicorns.
Green alligators and long neck geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, close the door 'cause the rain's a pourin'
And we just don't wait on an ol' unicorn.
--- Instrumental ---
Well, the ark started moving and it drifted with the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and just sorta floated 'em away
And that's why you've never seen a unicorn to this very day.
You'll see green alligators and long neck geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorn...LOVED this song as kid (still do, actually!)

So I get the dinosaurs because some do believe they existed with humans. But, beyond that song posted above does anyone believe they were real?!?

She leaned down and said to him, quite loudly, "Don't listen! None of this is true!" I'm sure they're on their way to the ark museum right now.

How is that guy even still a teacher? small town, non probationary teacher (like tenure), but more importantly I think only a handful of us have complained on that side, the others become outraged that they are teaching we can meet from apes instead of god.

Thanks for the memories! We sang the unicorn song in 4th grade music class. Was one of my favorites and I had forgotten all about it. We also sang "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown", "The Gambler" & " Stairway to Heaven". 70's education at its finest.

I love that song!!!
And that ark "museum" (I use that term VERY loosely; it sort of shames REAL museums) is just... I don't even have words.

My elementary music teacher was a hippie with long, dyed-red hair. We sang all that stuff plus more, and we loved her!

You forgot 'Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog'... Oh my gosh....you're right, we did sing that one too! My brother's name is Jeremy. I have had an entire lifetime of unceasing teasing singing this song AT him. As a tiny tot he would run off crying, now he is about a foot taller than me and shoots me hateful glares and calls me 'loada bologna' -his version of Lotus Blossom that my dad called me. YEARS of mileage from one song learned in second grade.

It's a museum of delusion!
Apparently they gleaned $62 million from the government, which was mentioned after the $18 mil.
Do I have the wrong idea about the separation of church and state? The gov wasn't going to give them the money after it was initially promised. This group then argued for the funds under separation of church and state. This looks as if the gov was subsidizing a church effort. Or is it because this is a 'museum'?
I don't remember HS science. However, my mother would have been one to tell me evolution was not true. We were never taken to museums of this sort to keep from our impressionable minds from being influenced.
FF many years, I'm amazed at what I am learning about evolution. Granted, my view of creation to evolution has done it's own evolving. However, between the Bios and Anthropology, evolution has been amazing. I can visualize the way our ancestors evolved. It's quite exciting!

@bumpea - that song sounds really cute. I'd have played it for my kids on long trips in the car. BUT... the grammar! Oh my! On the plus side, with grammar that poor, it's a whole lot easier to put the song in the same category as teaching a G-nu to K-nit. The Chenille Sisters - Deepest AfricaI was in deepest Africa Yes I was, yes I was I was in deepest Africa Teaching elephants to dance Don't look askance, for elephants Love to sing and dance in their fancy hot pants I was in deepest Africa Teaching elephants to dance I was in deepest Africa Yes I was, yes I was I was in deepest Africa Watching a toucan cancan When in the Sudan a toucan Can cancan better than any ten toucans can I was in deepest Africa Watching a toucan cancan I was in deepest Africa Yes I was, yes I was I was in deepest Africa Teaching a gnu to knit Each stitch that gnu would knit He would throw a fit like a gnu knit-wit I was in deepest Africa Teaching a gnu to knit (Knit one, pearl two, knit one, pearl two) I was in deepest Africa Yes I was, yes I was I was in deepest Africa Teaching a baboon to croon Each tune that baboon would croon Made the she-baboons loonier than moon goons I was in deepest Africa Teaching a baboon to croon I was in deepest Africa Yes I was, yes I was I was in deepest Africa Teaching hippopotami ... to fly Don't sigh, look up in the sky Hippopotami will be flying by I was in deepest Africa Teaching hippopotami ... to fly

Some of the people going MUST think dinosaurs onboard would be a lark to see. That's my story. I'm a-stickin' to it.
