My husband and I sat slack-jawed during the story on the national nightly news tonight.
If G-d concerns himself with these things, he is shaking his head at the stupidity.
And that they want tax-exempt status, while only hiring people who believe exactly what they believe in terms of Christianity is worthy of the world's biggest eye-roll and the the world's tiniest violin playing just for them when they don't get it.

That is a sad indictment of our education system.

sigh, what does that say about us? The 7th grade science teacher taught my son about creationism and gave him all the reasons that evolution was a bunch of lies. Took 2.5 years to reverse that ass's teaching. Younger Ds will have him this year and I pretaught him, so we should be good. Older Ds wanted to go to this museum. I told him I'd probably be struck by a giant lightning bolt just by looking at it.

I'd throw a fit, but this is rural small town and there are a bunch of people pissed that they teach evolution. It is an older teacher and I have just decided to make sure Ds knows the crappie he teaches is hogwash

I've got to say, that while I believe in evolution from start to finish, my imagination is dying for ark remains to be found on Mt. Ararat. In it Daenerys' dragon eggs would be preserved and they would hatch in Area 51. Also, human remains would be found because the velociraptors ate the passengers. Hmm, maybe I watch too many movies. It is an older teacher and I have just decided to make sure Ds knows the crappie he teaches is hogwash I just can't even imagine. For some sort of religious class, I could see it. Maybe. (Still a stretch.) But a science class? No. How does he address the DNA tests that track the Y chromosome or mitochondrial DNA? "Yes, Johnny. We believe it's important to know your family history, to know who you come from. We encourage you to take these tests to help you fill in some gaps. BUT.... the DNA tests are totally bogus in showing evolution through mutation. And this is what I have to say about the large % of people who have Neanderthal DNA - ." Yeah. He outta thank his lucky stars my kid was never in his classroom.

My very favorite part: "Posing for a selfie with a dinosaur, just like Noah did."
"In addition, the site has been given $18 million in state tax incentives," WTF!!!! Give that money to schools that teach actual science.
That Ark is crazy. And I cannot believe some parents actually take their children there and tell them, "No, really. This is exactly how things happened."

They showed this on one of our talk shows today and they showed a video clip of a woman who was at the ark talking about "how amazing it was that Noah managed to build the ark all that time ago without the use of modern technology"

How do his teachings meet the state-wide science curriculum? Is this a public school?

I live in the Bible Belt. People around here believe all sorts of crazy things. A woman I used to work with took a road trip to Kentucky this week with her three kids and several others to see this very place. I've been skipping over her Facebook posts about it, but now I think maybe I ought to go read them. I could use a little levity this morning.

Younger Ds will have him this year and I pretaught him, so we should be good. How is that guy even still a teacher? At one point (before we had kids), we lived in a rural small town. The bio science teacher for the high school (there were a total of 3 science teachers in the high school -- bio, chem, physics -- which was regional for the several small towns in the immediate area), was renowned for her idiocy and lack of scientific knowledge. Renowned. She WOULD say things like dinosaurs and humans co-existed. When parents would confront her, her response was, "Anything is possible!" The problem was that there were simply no applicants for these teaching jobs. They tried to get rid of her every year for 8 years, but literally no one applied for the position. So they were stuck. And the kids got mis-educated. If you were a kid like the pp whose parents could or would re-educate or pre-educate you, you could overcome the idiocy. If not? You were taught crap.

Around here, it is easier to talk about politics than creationism/evolution/intelligent design. As of now, I am just glad my kids are done with public school science classes because every class is a crapshoot as to what you are going to get-and you may get one with undertones of 'I have to teach this but you better believe that I am going to roll my eyes, purse my lips and other wise telegraph my displeasure at having to teach the nonsense'.
I would rather ask people who they like better-Ms. Clinton or Mr. Trump.
