I'm old & used to taking an actual wrapped gift to the wedding or baby shower with me to deliver to the guest of honor. But the next two showers I'm going to are registered at www.registry.com and they say that the gift will be shipped directly to the bride or mom to be at their home. It seems like registry.com links several different stores (like Target) to one registry. Can I go to say Target & buy the gifts on registry.com to take home, wrap & deliver? Or, do I have it shipped & show up empty handed at the shower? That seems weird but again...in the olden days... TIA!

You can go anywhere and buy whatever, it just won't show up as being purchased on the registry.

I'm pretty sure you can claim an item and let them know it's already shipped?

You can have the gift delivered or you can bring it to the event. Sending a wedding gift to the home makes clean-up after a reception simpler-no worries about transporting and possibly losing a gift.
I check registries and then purchase the gift wherever I can get the best deal. FYI- if you take the gift to the wedding, put the card inside the gift-no chance of it getting lost that way.
