The other thread (which I thoroughly enjoyed and read every single response) got me thinking...if you don't LOVE what you do, OR, could change careers, what WOULD you do?!

I'd love to plan Make-A-Wish wishes. Finding cool experiences for them and setting everything up, knowing that it will be an amazing experience for them.

She is an amazing person and has been doing this now for a few years. She said it's incredibly rewarding but difficult because you can't help but get attached to some of these kids. She admits that it's a really hard job but SO worth it.

Are they hiring? As a matter of fact they are, but it's a volunteer position. I went through the training many years ago, but soon afterward my husband and I relocated and I haven't had time to get involved in our local chapter of MAW. It's such a wonderful organization though, and I highly recommend that you look into volunteering if/when your life allows. SaveSave

I have a sneaking suspicion that those types of opportunities don't come up very often. She's only been doing this portion of her job for a few years and I believe she's been in her business for 20 years.

Is SAHM or SAHW an option? Because that and a little volunteer work is what I'd really like. But totally not an option. If not I'll go with Travel Agent (do people still use them?), maybe a WDW trip planner. I very seriously considered being a travel agent but he very low pay stopped me. Not that being a library assistant has made me rich. But I need my employer's top notch health insurance so I'll stick with library work. The pay may not be good but the benefits are quite decent, esp the health insurance.

Retired! I'd like to be retired, and I'm pretty sure DH would too since he says that about every other day, LOL. I'm not one of those people who would need a part time retirement job either. I'd be happy to cook or bake what I want when I want, sit and read a book or do some crafts if I want, go shopping or just sit and do NOTHING if that's what I want. Working, even working for yourself (or your spouse) is totally overrated.

I'm enjoying what I'm doing now, but if I could go back to college, I would go into architecture specializing in residential homes. I would even like to focus on environmentally responsible homes.

The other thread was really interesting. Hhhmmm what would I do if I didn't have my career? Well is sleep-in-have-lots-of-sex-with-my-husband-lay-on-the-beach-drinking-frozen-margaritas-reading-a-good-book-all-day a job? Cause yeah that, that is what I'd rather be doing. lol And if not then I think I'd like to be a professional baker with enough money that I could do weddings/birthdays etc for free for military/police/EMS etc. I love to bake and I'm pretty good at it.Or I'd love to have enough money to have a company that takes cancer patients/spouses of military/spouses of law enforcement and makes them queen (or king) for a day. Total make overs, spa services, take them out to do whatever fun thing they requested...one whole day dedicated to them.

Husband is an engineer and I am an accountant. (Sounds boring but I promise we are fun people...) He would like to flip cars. In my former life I was a SAHM and I loved that. I would love to be a SAHW.
Together we would like to be independently wealthy so that we could simply pursue personal interests and travel.

I'd love to be a sponsored athlete and go all around New Zealand encouraging regular people on their health journey, specifically thru running. I believe everyone is an athlete. I'd love as part of the sponsorship deal, for people who can't afford proper running gear to get their gait analysed and shoes specific to their needs be provided, along with a good sports bra, hydration system and proper activewear. Hey, a girl can dream :-)

I don't love what I do but I make good money. What I want to do I don't have the talent for. I'd like to be an artist like freebird or a historical costumer like Isabel at Prior Attire. Either one of these would make me very happy. But they take talent and skill that I don't have, as well as a disposition to work with fine details. That is not me. I am not detail oriented and I cannot focus on meticulous work. I also would maybe have liked to be a lawyer just because I think it would have come in handy pretty often in my life and maybe I could have been a judge. I think I would have been a good judge. Now I am sort of wishing time away because I want to be retired and stay home and enjoy my house and my things and enjoy life but I would want to be financially secure enough to be relatively stress free. Whatever I do or don't do I would live to live at the beach year round. I want to go to sleep listening the the waves and wake up to the sun coming up over the water.

I'd like to feel more balanced between training and my personal business but I really don't think i'd change professions. I love my job. DH would be an oceanologist studying coral reefs.

I like what I do, and I like the senior management, but I am getting frustrated with a couple of managers that act like children and I get caught having to listen to one of them gripe.
I am seriously considering retiring next year (April 2017 will be 10 years), but not sure what I will do with my time, and I have to figure that out before I do. I have had a couple of times in my life where I have been out of work between jobs, or had a sabatical where I didn't work, and about went nutty without having a routine and things I needed to be doing.

Working, even working for yourself (or your spouse) is totally overrated. I kept saying that too! I was retired for 7 months and my old boss asked if I wouldn't like a little part time job. Work mostly from home and stay in my jammies until noon. I am flexible with my hours. Fridays I volunteer. It is just for a year and pays well. At first I was in shock having to work again, but it is really low key and I am used to it. What I like about it is that I see people. I missed people. Not that my husband and sons aren't people, but you know.

Dreaming? I'd love to be an author or concert pianist. Not gonna happen. Realistically? DH and I have talked about going into real estate when we retire from teaching. We already own two rental properties. If I could go back in time and pick another college major, I think I would have gone into speech/language pathology or audiology. DH says he would love to be a stay-at-home-dad...and in all seriousness, he would be great. He already does 90% of the cooking and does all sorts of other domestic type things around the house without me having to ask or nag. Sigh. I love him.

I would love to develop a travel business taking people on small group guided tours of major European cities. I could spend half my time creating the tours and half the time leading them.
Years ago I spent an evening with a National Geographic photographer and another time ended up having dinner with a travel food writer doing a story for Bon Appetit and always thought those would be incredible careers.
