I am getting ready for a crop next week. Decided to make sure my Silhouette software was all good. There's an update so I download and install. It's version 3.7.227 from 6/9. It has a feature that copies your library to the cloud so it can be shared. I thought that was a good idea since I have a laptop for crops and a desktop at home.
Well, I install, go through steps to upload to cloud. However, I see the shape directory under local user does not have all my shapes. The directory under the "cloud" does, except it has duplicate folders. One folders has all my shapes and one folder (same name) has zero shapes.
I am really confused by this point. Does this mean I can't use all my shapes unless I am connected to the cloud? Is this a weird bug? Operator error? I sent them a detailed email outlining all the issues I encountered, including every single time I upgrade, my designer edition "drops" and I have to re-enter the serial number. That means I am contacting them every few updates to re-set my key. Whenever I used to update my desktop that never happened. I ended up reverting to the previous version of software until I hear from them.
Has anyone had any of these issues?

jemmls4 I didn't know about this new version or the Silhouette cloud. I went back and looked at a Silhouette School blog post about an earlier version that introduced the Cloud in April. There's a statement from Silhouette towards the bottom which explains how the cloud is supposed to work. They say " After updating to the Cloud version of the Silhouette Studio software and the initial syncing of your Silhouette Studio library to the Cloud, an active internet connection is not required for the use of library images...
Within the library, there will be sections for the Local User (non-synced) content and Cloud User (synced) content. Upon initial update, any content purchased from the Silhouette Design Store, and their accompanying folders, will be moved into the Cloud User section of the library. Any personally created designs will remain within the Local User section and will not sync unless moved to the Cloud User section." However, your purchased designs are also supposed to be stored locally on your computer. Sounds to me that what you've encountered with the double-ups is a bug. Just wondering if you can revert to the previous version in the meantime?

Some gals complained that they lost all files that were not Silhouette when they did the update.
I don't know if they have fixed the missing files issue or not.
It's a good idea to back up all files before updating, anyway, but I also heard that the ability to do the backup got eliminated in this latest version. Not sure if that is true, but the ability to easily back up the files is one of my favorite features of the version which I have. It is so easy to not only back them up, but also copy them to another computer. I have both a laptop and a desktop, so that allows me to easily transfer new files to my laptop. I use my desktop most of the time.
However, because a person could also potentially load all files to the computer of a family member or a friend (in violation of copyright), that might be one reason all files are now stored on the cloud. You can still access the files when using the computer of a friend or family member (both my married daughter and my sister also own Cameos, so that can be handy), but it doesn't make it as easy to put purchased files on a borrowed computer.
Whatever their reasons for the changes, my internet is somewhat unpredictable, so I want my files on my computer, not the cloud. I don't know if you can choose where they are stored or not. It should be an option if they want to keep their customers happy. I know that supposedly you don't have to access the internet once the files are on the cloud, but until I see users say that the bugs are worked out, I won't be updating.
I usually wait till other users say the bugs are all worked out before I update. Sometimes it takes awhile.

Thanks for the additional info @scrapnana. The cloud isn't really something I think I need since I just have one device and back everything up anyway. Definitely not going to update now until I see if these issues are sorted!
