I saw some stats today that in 2009 there were something like 147 complaints of excessive force by the Dallas police. After he took over as chief, he fired 70 officers and last year the excessive force complaints were down to 13 - for the entire year. I'm not sure how accurate it was, but I found that to be really impressive as well. A few years ago Dallas had an awful jerk as police chief. He ran off any officer who he saw as a threat (more education etc.). He hired officers who were not "the finest." When Chief Brown came to the job, he fired any officer who did things that were not right. He got rid of some bad cops. There are those who are still calling for Chief Brown to be fired, but I think he has done a great job of getting things right in the department. The past few days show his character, IMO. (I also live in a suburb of Dallas)

I agree with everything you've said. But does he remind you of an actor? I can't remember the name but he looks so familiar. I was also thinking as a police chief you can't take a vacation. If anything happens you have to come back home. Samuel Jackson in the movie where he had to help some guy because there were bombs planted around town and schools!! Lol EDITED: Die Hard with a Vengeance

I think that this is a classic case of you never truly know someone's character until they are faced with heartache and tragedy.

I think that this is a classic case of you never truly know someone's character until they are faced with heartache and tragedy. Agree completely. My mom and I were talking about Chief Brown this morning as she wasn't aware of the personal hardships he has endured. He mentioned he was "running on fumes" yesterday . . . I can only imagine. And it makes me think we are seeing the most true, raw side of him right now.

So I read the links that supersoda provided about the calls for the Chief to resign. Oh, the horror of wanting more foot patrols! A strategy of getting officers out in the community to help develop a real relationship between the two that cannot be achieved by vehicle patrols. How dare he? /sarcasm
As to the church thing, it doesn't sound good, but the Chief is promising to uphold the law equally. It would certainly be preferable if there wasn't an association, that's for sure.

I have so much respect for Chief Brown. He has had to deal with so much in his personal life - his own son killed by a cop - and to now have to deal with this? I can only imagine the memories this whole incident brings back.
