Message board it seems. Since I love American Girl dolls I'm on a message board all about the dolls.
Someone started a thread about show a picture of your dolls. There are some serious collectors out there with many dolls, like many!
So I was enjoying all the pictures when the next post was all about remembering this is not a "keeping up with the Jones'" thread and how it was beginning to feel that way. Blah, blah, blah.
Then many people starting apologizing for hurting anyone's feelings. Too bad that forum doesn't have a "rolls eyes" emoji.

The words "grow up" come to mind for the person "keeping up with the JOnes'" comment

Wow! Btw, I love American Girl dolls too! Wish DD was still interested in them. I think any photo thread is a fun thread but especially if people share their doll collection. Did the photos include all the doll accesories too?

Lol, I only visit here, funny to think about hand slappers over dolls.
I'm on a group chat since last night with fellow teen boy moms in my neighborhood about an issue. They're long time mom friends. One is in a preachy, hand slap mode herself. But of course her two young men are fully evolved and don't do anything wrong. Seriously-delusional. I could start my own vent thread... Sorry for hijack.

Human nature. My guess is the hand slapper was jealous that her collection was small by comparison.

You know what's funny, is that I used to be a bear maker (teddy bears -miniatures in particular). That's the job that made me realize that it doesn't matter WHAT industry you're in, it's always going to be political bullshit. Who you know and who you blow is all that matters. The hand slap I hate SO MUCH (and I see it here) is: "My mom is being so difficult I can hardly stand it!" "sigh. I wish *I* had a mom." Yes, so do I, so she'd tell you to stop making everything about you.

People are so brave behind the safety of their keyboards. Yet so often in real life, so many are afraid to take a stand.

I thought I know what will happen if I post here and didn't for just this reason. OP, you're right it doesn't matter where you go. And my DD will be happy to discuss AG with you any time! lol.

Oh I agree with you Caro, about that AG board. I grew to loathe that board, they handslap and bitch so much about the STUPIDEST things.
They are dolls, for Pete's sake...all that PC policing going on over is ridiculous. I went over to watch the Welly Wishers (oh are they cute) news and just rolled my eyes too. SSDD.

Do you have a deceased parent? Yes I do and yes it sucks but I am not rude enough to belittle someone else's problems because I had the misfortune to lose a parent way too soon. Somebody somewhere always has it worse. That doesn't make my current annoyances any less annoying to me.

I remember people feeling that way - this isn't a keeping up with the Joneses thread - on the old board when a show us your stash/scrap room thread came around. People would show these elaborate rooms with a big island and a hundred cabinets full of scrap stuff and I was like, here's my paper and my two packs of Thickers. I wouldn't call it jealousy, but I did sometimes feel like there was this divide, like there were the Serious Scrapbook Artistes and the rest of us were just dabblers. I can totally see how it would get that way with AG. We have a friend who collects and she has hundreds of dolls and three dressers of clothes for them. I would bet she's got $50k invested in that stuff. I'd feel a little weak showing off my collection in comparison. <--- said with a little bit of a laugh The hand slap I hate SO MUCH (and I see it here) is: "My mom is being so difficult I can hardly stand it!" "sigh. I wish *I* had a mom." Yes, so do I, so she'd tell you to stop making everything about you. I literally had an issue with my mom yesterday that I desperately needed to vent about. You too? Ha ha. I am so grateful most days that I still have both parents to drive me crazy but they really DO sometimes. I have needed to vent too. My friend and I, we are the Insane Mom Posse and I am so grateful to have someone who gets it and isn't all, well, let me tell you how much worse you could have it.

There are about a hundred times I day I read something and think, "Well, at least it's not cancer." I don't say that but I still think there are loads of people who could use a little perspective. 99.99% of the time I keep it to myself though.

Yes, so do I, so she'd tell you to stop making everything about you. This scenario came to mind when I read the thread. Way back when, I was on a wedding planning message board and the newlyweds would reminisce about their days and what they regret doing. Clearly the topic was supposed to be lighthearted but someone will always come in and say something like "I wish my father was still alive so he could walk me down the aisle". Now is someone complaining about their cake flavors a jerk?

I don't remember dealing with this before motherhood. Is that what brings it out in some women? And now have to apologize to those without children. Help me, it never ends. I don't say that but I still think there are loads of people who could use a little perspective. 99.99% of the time I keep it to myself though. Just said a string of F@#K cancer words in your honor. You know, is a place where you could say it, and we'd understand. You've shared and taught us, Perspective is a good thing.

I actually had the receptionist at our old dentist's office state that specific statement to me (in a snotty tone) about my annoyance/aggravation of a dental situation (DS has a cavity on the side of a tooth that can't be reached so we have to do $5k in orthodontics to deal with it). I am sorry for her honestly, but didn't need a little perspective that specific day.
Maybe I just got to experience her .01% chance that day except that she was normally uninviting most of the time for a service-oriented person ... and it is different because they are a service business and this is a friendly message board, so I definitely won't jump on you for wanting to say it or just saying it....

I usually skip the venting threads, which likely explains the reason I've not noticed the frequency of the exchange. In the context of the couple threads where I've seen the comment, I didn't interpret it as selfish or belittling toward the OP. Giving people the benefit of the doubt, maybe these posters' intention is to indirectly communicate the OP is being selfish or petty with their complaint, provide the OP with the perspective that someone else has it worse, or they're still processing/grieving their loved ones' deaths & didn't consider it may be interpreted negatively by or toward the OP.

I don't say it mostly because I hate pissing contests about who has it worse. When my cat finally dies the fact that my mother is still alive isn't going to make me less sad and I'd want to punch anyone who said it should square in the mouth. When you're having a shit day, someone else's shittier day does not make it better. But when I hear people getting enraged over getting unwanted pickles on their hamburger, I still think quietly to myself that they are lucky that's the worst thing they have to think about today.

Yes, so do I, so she'd tell you to stop making everything about you. I agree with this a billion times. That's the difficulty with a forum that has so many people. See "in real life" I would never complain about my husband's idiosyncrasies to my closest friend. I am only now at the point where I do make quips that are not always positive like "he has man cold and I want him to go sleep in the garage". See her husband took his life 2 1/2 years ago. As real as my annoyances at my husband can be sometimes my dear friend would give anything to have her husband back with all those annoyances. It's a balance. She can't help but think "Be thankful and hold on to what you have before it's gone". On a board like this we tend to forget that our vents can be another person's biggest desires. Most days people would gloss over those posts but just reading it at the right time... sometimes we also need those reality checks when we are caught up in our woe is me moments as well. Save

I do remember those times when one of them would annoy the heck out of me and I needed to vent about it. It's part of life. To forget that and turn around to hand slap others is really uncalled for. As for the OP, I've noticed that the same issues I've seen here over the past 12 years show up on pretty much every board I've visited. Makes me realize none of us, or our issues/problems, is really that unique! Save

Very true. I think this to myself often - if that's the worst thing on your plate, you're doing alright. On the other hand, sometimes I have days where the pickle is the straw that broke the camels back.

We all have serious problems/issues, and we all have trivial problems/issues. The trick is remembering which is serious and which is trivial.
