I would assume you are my friend (since you invited me and all) so here is how the conversation would go: You: Wanna come hang out with us at a bonfire? Me: Are you out of your mind?? It is 85 degrees with humidity like a wet wool blanket at 9 oclock at night...so unless by fire you mean the pool with big chunks of ice floating in it, NO. You: um. okay. Me: I do love you anyway. But that is because it has been hotter than the surface of the sun here, and the only fire I want to be near is ... well, there isn't one. Oh my gosh yes. Bonfires are NOT a summer event here. I could fire an egg on my Firepit stones.

I would expect water at the very least. If I know you well enough, I'd expect you to have your usual stock. If I know that you won't have something I'd like to drink, I'd bring my own and usually enough to share.
Bonfire makes me think s'mores. For some reason, beer makes me want salty food so chips or pretzels is always good. Whenever we go camping, I make sure we have pretzels and/or chips.
ETA - tonight, in my area, would be perfect for a bonfire! It's a rather cool day and the evening is heading into at least a hoodie weather. Don't even think about inviting me next week though. The whole midwest/great lakes region is supposed to be on fire.

yeah I dont see the draw to bonfires when its 90+ degrees, at least here. that said my Navy boy will be in next week and between him and his buddies who will be here(which is great love them too!) I figure someone will want to start a bonfire, I'm gonna shoot the notion down though if I can based on that we are under a severe drought and its super dry(and i mean I live on a farm surrounded by very dry pastures). but yeah for drinks if you dead set dont want sodas you can do lemonade and tea and water. I too find it funny that soda be damned but alcohol a plenty lol..

Well we have alcohol but no sodas in our house either. If we have people over we have water, fruit infused water, ice tea, and lemonade. We just don't do soda. I am hoping it cools down enough to do a fire tonight and do smores. I don't think beer will go with them but I did have wine last weekend

In my circle we keep it simple. "I've got beer, wine and water with a veggie and cheese plate. Bring something if you like!"

We usually have a variety of food like those mentioned above. For some reason bonfires make me so hungry. Like pot smoking, got the munchies, hungry. Bon fires gives me the munchies too! I always bring our own snacks and drinks, but they almost always have the basics there. Beer, wine, coke (um, soda), lots of water. Then chips and cookies for snacks. We must be weird cause we've never had s'mores at any of the bon fires we've been to.You're missing out!

If you do s'mores, have something else as well. Not everyone likes s'mores. I hate the things. Maybe some cookies or mini cupcakes. I'd also have soft drinks to offer, but being Southern, we tend to have at least something from every drink category and way too much food for get togethers! I don't like smores either. I do, however, like all of the ingredients separately. I'd suggest something like bottles of Nantucket Nectars for non alcoholic beverages.

We have a fire every Friday night. We like to cook hotdogs, smokies and pepperoni sticks over the fire and of course s'mores.
