Pasta is the biggest one for me. All of my pasta recipes call for a pound of pasta and hell if I can find a pound size package anymore.

Cereal and Poptarts! I swear Poptarts are half the size they used to be. Oh, Poptarts! I'm a child and don't like them unfrosted. I always break the "crust" off. I swear I am throwing away half the Poptart anymore instead of just a thin edge anymore. On the opposite side, packaged hamburger meat drives me crazy. Sloppy Joe, tacos, whatever, usually call for a pound. None of the prepackaged is ever less than 1.4 pounds.

There are actually I think four sizes of Pringles cans. There's snack ones which are the individual plastic ones, the tall full sized cans, and then two sizes (I think) in between those. My guess is for $1 you got the in between size. eta ~ I know we have at least the middle three sizes available here. Aahh, this helps! I believe I had the size of that purple can.

Tuna has definitely shrunk. They haven't even bothered to make the cans smaller. I have a recipe from the Seventies that calls for something like a 7 oz can of tuna. That used to be the regular size. It's now 5 ounces.

My MIL was a cook from her generation, lots of her recipes are cans of foods combined.
I wonder if it even be possible to make one of her casseroles without some math, the product sizes have changed so much.

Saw an end cap full of Pringles last night for $1 each and instinctively threw some in the cart. It wasn't until I got home and unloaded them that I realized how much smaller the cans are these days. DH saw them on the counter just now and says 'geez, that is one SMALL can of Pringles'. What other foods have you noticed getting smaller (while the price goes up)? Mu husband did the same thing as you. I commented on the fact that it wasn't that great of a deal since the can is smaller. He didn't even notice.

Remember when a bag of sugar was 5lbs? They're all 4 now.

This is my pet peeve too. I would rather pay more for a larger size than have them make it smaller for the same price.

My daughter noticed the Pringles size difference when the Dollar Tree can fit on a shelf that the grocery store cans did not. Guess Dollar Tree has a deal with Pringles to make smaller cans. Maybe a buck isn't such a great price after all when factoring in the size difference!
but as my daughter pointed out, she's going to eat the whole Pringles can in one sitting, may as well be the smaller can!

The cake mix bugs me the hell out of me!
I buy a lot of it for bake sales and I need each box to make 12 supersize cupcakes!

The good shrinkage is called the two martini olive principle. Look it up and it will give you another reason to hate airlines.

Toilet paper. I swear if those rolls get any narrower a person might be better off using your fingers...
I hate the deceptive way they do it by shrinking instead of increasing the price. And nevermind that a lot of our recipes call for the old sizes so you're always having to open another package.

Unfortunately, the food-shrinking crisis has not resulted in any waist-shrinking success for me.

Perhaps I should be using my Michaels coupons for TP now.

Remember when a bag of sugar was 5lbs? They're all 4 now. Wait...what?!! I never noticed. Wow... Sugar has been sold in 4 lbs bags instead of 5 lbs for close to 10 years now. Some brands may have change a little later, but it's been awhile. I remember having a fit when they changed it years ago, then I realized that the 4 lb size fit in my storage container where as with the 5 lb bag I'd always have a bag with just a bit of sugar in it taking up shelf space. I think unless it is a fresh food (like fruits, veggies, meat, milk) it has gotten smaller. Like the outer aisles of the store, where I do most of my shopping is the same, but all of the middle boxed stuff has increased in price, while decreased in size.

The worst offender I thought of was Mother or Mothers? frosted animal cookies. You open a bag of those and they barely cover the bottom.

Toilet paper and ice cream are the ones I've noticed the most. Have you guys noticed how expensive dishwasher detergent is anymore? I decided to switch it up and go to Cascade + Lemishine to try to help my dishes. It worked and my dishes look great but that Cascade was $4.99 for 12 tabs!!!
I'm another one driven crazy by the pound and a half hamburger packages. Give me a pound or a little less than a pound, I have no interest in 1.5 pounds. Most often now I go to the meat counter and ask for one pound of hamburger in two half pound packages.

The cost of individual tabs, pods, and such is ridiculous.

That's really weird. I just bought some within the last month and they were regular size. Less in the bag than a few years ago, but the cookie size was the same. Sounds like the mini ones. They are smaller, as justkat says, about the size of a quarter. They are different than the normal size ones. I used to buy the snack size packages of the mini ones for the boys lunches. Seems to me like a good bit of packaged foods have gotten smaller with the costs going up. I think the hardest part is when you are cooking with an older recipe that says something like 'one package of xxx' and the package of xxx is smaller than it used to be, it throws the whole thing off. This is SO true! When my Grandmother passed away, one of my sisters made all of the grandchildren a scrapbook with memories of my grandparents, and with about 20 of my Grandmother's prized/secret recipes. Luckily she wrote down everything, to the tsp!! Every time I make her superb NY style cheesecake, we all say, "Thank you, Nana!"

Cake mixes are smaller and bags of chocolate chips are too. It really ticks me off when they mess with products we use in recipes. Jen

I was fixing scrambled eggs for breakfast and noticed the size of the eggs. I have a carton of medium eggs and they are more small than medium!! And pizza too! Large is what medium used to be and medium is the size of small.

Ice cream. Boxes of cereal. Bottles of soda, juice, gatorade, etc.
Bags of sugar. They sell four pound bags instead of five pound bags, but the price is the same/slightly higher.

It's really annoying how sneaky they are with it. Reduce the size and hope the customer doesn't notice that they are now paying more per serving/ounce. Just another way to try and sneak price increases past us. ITA!

I wish I could ditch the tabs for dishes and laundry. Unfotunately, DH's philosophy is "If a little is good, a lot is better." That can wreak havoc with the dishes, the laundry, and the appliances. With tabs and pods, he can't use too much.
