Saw an end cap full of Pringles last night for $1 each and instinctively threw some in the cart. It wasn't until I got home and unloaded them that I realized how much smaller the cans are these days. DH saw them on the counter just now and says 'geez, that is one SMALL can of Pringles'. What other foods have you noticed getting smaller (while the price goes up)? That may have been the snack size can. There are those and then the regular tall cans available.

I swear my toilet paper got a bit narrower. I'm really good at noticing small measurements and I'm guessing maybe 1/4" shorter (cut narrower, not the amount of TP on the roll). Doesn't seem like much but multiply that by millions of rolls.

First I thought the Pringles were just a smaller can, then my Chips Ahoy seem the same size as always, now this! I have the Quilted Northern Ultra Plush (or something), and it doesn't fit on the roll! It's TOO big! I have to leave it on the counter for several days until it's used enough to fit. I WISH it was a smaller roll. I'm not buying that brand after this package.

It drives me crazy that they have raised prices AND made the amount in the package smaller. But then they leave the package the same or do things to trick us into not realizing that the amount is not the same.

Bottles of Ocean Spray cranberry juice are now 60 ounces as opposed to the 64 ounces they used to be. The top of the bottle has been narrowed in depth so it still appears to be the same sized bottle from the front.

Oh and another thing---Brussels Sprouts---they are sold loose in produce. It used to be that they were cleaned up a bit, so when you got home you had minimal trimming/cleaning. Now, they are rough! Outer leaves more of the stalk, you end up cutting off a pound of waste on 4 lbs that you just paid $4 a pound for!!!
I've noticed it with some of the leaf and organic veggies, sold by the pound but lots you have to cut off .

Unfortunately, the food-shrinking crisis has not resulted in any waist-shrinking success for me. Nailed it!

Seems like there are a LOT of stem pieces in the bags and not many florets. My kid will not eat the "stems" LOL.

I can't remember what product it is, but I also noticed a jar of something that instead of a flat bottom now has a VERY concave bottom (like half an inch or so at the top). The jar looks exactly the same from the outside but now is a couple of ounces less because of the indent in the bottom. Just seems so shady. Just make the jar smaller and say costs went up. Don't treat us like we're stupid.

Ice cream My favorite yogurt just went through a package change, it's smaller and 75 cents more than it was before! Cheese When I was a kid, individual yogurts were 8oz. Then, they shrank to 6oz, and now my favorite brand is 5oz. That's almost half the size they once were as the price has continued to climb.

I looked at the roll on the spindle and thought it looked really wide compared to the Charmin Ultra Strong I normally buy. Sure enough once I compared, the Costco toilet paper roll is about 1/2" wider! Unfortunately the TP is also really thin, so I won't be buying it again.

Buy the 2 ply double rolls and it will fit. We stopped using the ultra plush 3 ply due to a certain someone who couldn't use less sheets and would clog the toilet, so we are back to 2 ply.

Another one I thought of is chewy granola bars. Back when I was in high school or so when they first showed up, they were a decent size. Now I think they're about half as big as they used to be. I think a big part of it is that companies are trying to get the individual portion size of things down to around a hundred calories. Grrr. I'm perfectly able to read a package and determine how much of something I want to eat.

I went to dip a carrot stick in the other day into a new container, and my first swipe through the center had me hitting the plastic bottom!

Unsweetened baking chocolate used to be sold in 8 oz boxes and there were 8 individually wrapped one oz bars. Now there is only 4 oz in a box and it is one big bar. If wasn't bad enough that they charge the same for half the product they say on the box that it is more conveniently packaged. There is nothing convenient about trying to get a clean break on the bar when you only need 2 oz of chocolate. It was much easier when each ounce was individually packaged. A curse on the makers of Bakers Brand Unsweetened Baking Chocolate!!!

Pasta for sure! I can't tell you how many times I bought a box and the got home and realized it was only 12 oz. before I finally caught on and started checking them at the store. Some are still 16 oz., but you have to check.

My MIL was a cook from her generation, lots of her recipes are cans of foods combined. I wonder if it even be possible to make one of her casseroles without some math, the product sizes have changed so much. This is the worst, because so many of my vintage recipes don't have measurements for that type of thing. They just say one can of this or one package of that. I don't make recipes with a lot of processed ingredients all that often, but when I do, it's typically an old recipe I'm feeling nostalgic for, and this keeps being an issue for me. My grandmother used to make this crazy recipe called Rosy Cottage Cheese, and every darn item was a prepackaged ingredient. A tub of Cool Whip, a box of jello, a can of pineapple, and a container of cottage cheese. And I have no idea what any of the sizes of those items were when she was making them. I wanted to make it for my kids once so they could experience it, and I read the recipe and realized it would be all guess work trying to get it right. Save

The good shrinkage is called the two martini olive principle. Look it up and it will give you another reason to hate airlines. Would you mind linking? I can't seem to find it & would be interested in doing so.

Not shorter rolls, but narrower rolls. Actually they're selling the same rolls now but just calling them jumbo rolls.
