So what you say? Well, Thursday nights, for whatever reason, have become my bubble bath, ocean sounds, get away for awhile night. Sometimes I throw some epsom salts in there due to my Fibro achiness. Sometimes a few drops of lavender oil because it just relaxes me.
Anyway, I got my towels today in a plain gray bag. No instructions, in Korean or English, nothing! I have pink and green towels so I googled to see what the difference would be. I found out the green is the one for the body and it is a bit "stronger" in what it does. The pink one was a bit more gentle and even said it was for the face even though I have read countless things that say don't use these on your face. The BIG thing that I keep reading is to not soak in anything except the hottest water I can stand. No bubble bath? No lavender oil? At least I can have my ocean sounds in the background. Whew!
What I want to know is who is really using these here and have you just soaked in plain jane water or have you added anything. I really look forward to the bubbles! I am also really looking forward to seeing if the towels work like they say and just how grody it will be after all is said and done.

Hmmm. I have green and red/pink. I didn't know the different colors mean something different.
Me too. I need someone with more knowledge to explain!

Someone -cant remember who- said to soak them in their own bowl separate from you bathwater. So I would do that, and continue with my bubble bath. Set the towel bowl close to your bathtub so you can reach it when you need it.

IIRC the oils don't help with the sloughing. I'm sure there is a much more technical description.

I have red and green too and they both seem to be the same - just a different color.
I actually just took a really hot and lengthy shower instead of soaking. I did soak my lower legs and feet (in plain water) a bit longer because the skin on my legs are really dry (boy a lot of dead skin came off my knees). I used the towel AFTER I got out of the water but then I had to get back in the shower and rinse off.

I'm guessing the bubble bath would make you "slick" and wouldn't work as well. I did a soak on Monday night in just plain water and used my towel with just a couple of dabs from a bar of soap. It was disgusting! I can't believe how much dead skin was on my body! My skin looks and feels so nice now. I look forward to doing again next week

I so need to do this my skin is so dry right now. I to got the red and green. How long do you soak? And do you scrub in the tub? Then just rinse everything down the drain. Just trying to figure out the logistics of getting rid of the grossness.

Is a bath necessary? Will a long shower suffice?

Hmmm. I have green and red/pink. I didn't know the different colors mean something different. Me too. I need someone with more knowledge to explain! I only have a red one I found at home and it is rough enough! my skin feels like butter. Akasuri (the Japanese name for it) are very, very popular. I have used these for going on 25 years or more. They are just awesome. I didn't know there was a difference between red and green. I have had both and don't know the difference. I hope you love yours as much as I love mine!

I got mine about a week ago, same type of packaging as yours Naby64. I haven't had time for a long bath so I've used them in the shower. The red ones don't seem to be as rough as the green. I used the red on my face but very gently and my face feels so much better! Got some major skin off my elbows and legs with the green one too. I can't imagine how much would come off if I just soaked!

I'm so glad you asked this, I also do Epsom salt (and baking soda) with lavender baths. I got my towels yesterday too and was wondering about using them after a "detox" bath. ( alissa103 - here's a link to the ones I ordered.

Well I used it in the shower and it wasn't very dramatic but it did help. No long showers here since we are in so cal. My knees are really soft .

Is a bath necessary? Will a long shower suffice? Yes a long shower will suffice, I basically got in the shower and scrubbed the tile and then scrubbed myself after my regular shower routine. That additional time was long enough. I turned the water off while scrubbing and then turned it on to rinse in between areas and then did a final rinse to clean myself and the shower. Don't forget to moisturize afterwards. Since then I've scrubbed spot areas in the shower but have not done a full exfoliation. No need for soap.

Do you scrub up and down or do you have to use a circular motion

Do you scrub up and down or do you have to use a circular motion I just randomly used them. Up down, circular on the knees. Doesn't matter.

I'm so glad you asked this, I also do Epsom salt (and baking soda) with lavender baths. I got my towels yesterday too and was wondering about using them after a "detox" bath. ( alissa103 - here's a link to the ones I ordered. This has been my exact Thursday night ritual but with a very pretty smelling bubble bath added to it. alissa103, you really need to try these! You know I wouldn't steer ya wrong!! So here is my update - I did just do a soak. I needed something to time myself so I didn't do my nature sounds but put on a podcast. I was also impatient. I only soaked for about 15 minutes and then started the scrubbing. I saw more skin rolling off in some places than others. It was amazing though, how much did roll off! I thought I have done a good job on my legs, what with shaving and keeping lotion on them but they would still have a bit of an ashy, dare I say lizardy look at times? I did do a pretty rough scrub on my lower legs. To the point that the left stung a bit. I didn't really notice any skin coming off though. Bummer. My heels need some work and I don't think these will do what I need until I get them back in shape with my pedi scrubber. I always do that one in the shower at the end. I have been lax though lately. Gotta start that back up. ANYWAY, this morning as I was putting on my sunless tanning lotion, I noticed my lower legs looked shiny. That is a first in a long time. I guess the towel did do something. Oh and my elbows!! They have always been an issue. They looked and felt so good this morning. I know all the stuff I read online said to only do this once a week, but I might do my elbows twice a week. As far as the soaking and all, I have read different things. Some people said they just took a 15 minute hot shower and did the scrub. Some say the tub for 30 minutes. One said it didn't have to be cooking hot but what you could stand. The important part was to make sure you got puckered. So however long it would take for you to get to that stage. That seemed to be a key point in what I read. These are a winner in my book and will be ordered again when I run out!

I didn't understand before what the hubbub was about with these, but now that I've read this thread I think I may *need* these, too!! Darn you Peas, lol!! j/k-- love you guys! and you've never steered me wrong yet! eta: they're towels, right?? so what do you mean by 'when you run out' naby64?? are they impregnated with some sort of cleanser or something that gets 'used up' as you use them??

I read on some Amazon reviews that they lose their "scrubbiness" after a while (a few months). Like anything else, I imagine they can wear out, especially at the seams since they need to be stretched after they get wet.

I was amazed when I took it out of the package and then dropped it into the bathwater. It shrunk up like a shrinky dink. LOL But it does stretch out over your hand. I had not read about them losing their "scrubbiness" but it does make sense. I just assumed with wear and tear, it would be somewhat worn out and need replacing. Or I am just really use to everything being made these days to just be used up and tossed after awhile. I would guess using these just once a week, they would last for a bit.

I got them as well, then fanatically read the reviews on Amazon. They will arrive tomorrow, so I put the following info on a doc so I could print when they get here. First is the most helpful instruction review on Amazon, and after that a few quips to remember from others:
Korean Italy towel/mitts instructions:
"ByDEETI MALIon May 25, 2016
I'll just get straight to the point for those who do not know about this and are not native Koreans
1. Soak for about 20 minutes. Many say soaking in bath tub is must but I don't have the luxury of a bathtub and I am too impatient to spend special 20 mins just to soak. A little trick here, I shampoo and condition my hair 2 times/week and end up spending that amount of time under warm shower and scrub after this
2. Use soap bar and NOT shower gel. I've tried it both ways and confirmed from Korean friends the most effective way is to use a soap bar and shower with it post soaking and then scrub. Shower gels or body wash make it slippery even after your rinse out
3. That reminds me that POST SHOWER means the scrub must be dry (totally dry) to allow that friction. DO NOT USE with soap or any other product
4. Post shower air dry for at least 2-3 mins. Damp body will NOT allow scrubbing. You will just end up applying more force and will not see anything and will have scrub marks, if that happens take the hint that body is too damp. You should not see water dripping from body.
5. You will need to find your own best way to scrub by that I mean some areas are easy in one particular direction and other areas are best scrubbed along the length of hair. Find your way
6. The BIGGEST MISTAKE - I am very light brown and was amazed at how my skin color would go down by 2 shades at least and I committed the same mistake as many of you will. Scrubbing twice a week and I had scrub marks all over. Even if you feel tempted to DO NOT SCRUB TWICE, once a week is enough. Count till 10 and resist the temptation. Moreover over exfoliation is just as harmful as benefits of exfoliating regularly.
7. Post scrub use a heavy moisturizer or best so body oil. If you are not sure about which oil use baby oil just like me. Even for those will super oily skin you will need heavy duty moisturizer post scrubbing. I notice the oil sink into my body in like 10 mins
8. For maintaining the scrub, turn it inside out and wash with soap with hands and dry laying it on flat surface. If possible stretch it with your hands while it is still drying. The scrub does shrink and that is how it is, but this does not make it any less effective. The only inconvenient thing is people with big hands may find scrub slipping. That does not mean it’s useless, it will still remove the dead skin. One scrub will go on for at least 3 months.
9. Don't be grossed out at what you see after all you have been living, eating and moving about with all that you scrubbed in the shower ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Important safety tip: do not skip moisturizing after you rinse and cleanse. Your skin will never forgive you. Red color is rougher. The green ones are soft enough to use on my face, but it takes a ***VERY light*** touch. Throw them in the wash and clean them and re-use"
