As I posted in another thread I am seriously reconsidering my participation here. I prefer to keep my private life, my pea life and my other social media lives separate and it is clear there is at least one pea here who has no problems crossing those boundaries and connecting them if she decides she doesn't like you.
I try hard not to over share but I am sure at times I have over shared a snippet here or there that could bite me in the butt spectacularly in ways I didn't imagine when sharing, should a pea decide I am a "bitch" and unworthy of common courtesy.
I Have currently removed my avatar and am exploring whether my screen name can be tied to me. my question is, is there a way blocking can be set up like fb... Where if I block someone not only can I not see
their posts but they can not see mine, either? A few posts on that particular thread have made me question the sincerity of a few posters and wonder if they were the guilty parties and I would rather they not have access to my posts, should I stay. I really don't want to leave butthe siuation is weighing heavily on my mind.

i guess each person has to weigh the pros and cons
i won't leave or change my info
but i do think about what i post...especially in the heat of the moment
as a general rule - if you aren't an asshole...you shouldn't have much to worry about

If fear or trepidation is affecting your enjoyment here, then I'd say yes, you may want to reconsider being here.
Bottom line is - like Gina just said - if you haven't posted anything to worry about, don't worry about it!
I'm starting to wonder if BIL was just trying to cause more trouble as payback.
If people here start turning on each other and speculating who it is, it's just going to implode the board. Maybe that's what he wanted.

I am not sure who you are referencing, and I am not sure what the situation you are referring to is, BUT, I kind of concur. Having been here for so long I have been around where peas have used information to wreak havoc on personal lives of peas. That's why I will not answer all those probing questions/threads such as "what is your real name"..... "what state do you live in"..... "how old is everyone here".... "what are your pet names".... "How many kids do you have, ages, names" etc. They have all been asked in various degrees over the year. How easy to compile information. Save |

I read some of that thread and understand your concerns. I did a reverse google image search last night of my avatar, and also searched my user name. I got no hits. Have you tried searching for yourself to see if that makes you more comfortable?
I'm a little curious though. And wonder if a "pea detective" who has no connection to me, can figure out who I am. If you're up for the task and want to PM your search results to me, I'm all ears!

This board should be a positive place for you.
When it causes more anxiety/fear/anger than the positive feelings you get from being here (support/community/entertainment/etc.), it is probably a good time for a break.
That balance is different for everyone. And, I'm sorry you are feeling so concerned right now.

Not fear so much, just that I became acutely aware of how easily someone in my life could be directed here and I would prefer this sanctuary to be mine. I may not post a lot but ive always felt like this was someplace I could come to get away from it all. |

The OP was caught talking nasty about her family and lying about the facebook invite wording. I do believe it was a family member who had inside knowledge about the event that ousted the pea. Don't talk about people in public and you won't have to go into hiding. I don't talk trash about people I know on this board. I don't talk about my co-workers to other co-workers. You have to be careful with your words so it doesn't come back to bite you, then you will have nothing to worry about.

Honestly, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that ive posted that would get me in trouble. But this is the second time in a month that somehow someone who has been discussed has been brought here mysteriously (the first being the poster who posted about her sister's 4th of July float) and I imagine neither one of the them thought much about their post at the time either. It just made me really aware of how a nut ball could trace back to my family, etc, as was done in those cases. Who needs that? |

This is not the first time something like this has happened.
When this board first started there was a poster who wrote amusing posts about a guy coworker and then one day she disappeared along with all of her posts. The reason being that someone had taken things to a personal level causing her problems in real life.
The second one that comes to my mind may date from the old board I was not a member there but it may be in the history thread or maybe it was just discussed here. If I remember right the story goes that someone contacted an employer or some such thing.
So this is an upsetting thing to happen but it has existed forever by the sounds of it.
This is how terrorism works. Do something to someone that could easily be you. And now you are afraid. And when you are afraid you cannot enjoy your life the same way as before.
The best way to fight back is to continue to live your life the same as always and think twice before mouthing off.
If you need to vent make sure no one can identify your target.
