This is the first time my credit card number has been stolen, so I have a question. I just noticed a couple thousand dollars worth of charges that I did not make. I called and the charges are being disputed and the card cancelled. However, how would they have even gotten the credit card to go through without the correct billing address? Is there anything else I need to do? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to change passwords on all my accounts, but I just want to make sure I am covered and worse things don't happen!
Help me out, Peas. Thanks!

If I pay for something over the phone I never have to give correct address sssociated with the card.
I give them the cart number, the zip code (maybe) and then the numbers on the back.

Not every POS system requires a current address. I know ours doesn't as that is not a piece of information that is currently being sent to our vendor to batch the CC payments. It might in the future. In their last software update, they just added a field for cardholder name that at this point isn't even used yet.
So part will depend on how up to date the POS/CC processing system used is....
This is one reason why I use a different address for billing than my home address. That way if someone gets my name and address, they don't automatically get my CC address. I do paperless billing and my address/zip code is not even in my state!

I don't know but you have my sympathy.
We have two credit cards. Both were converted to chip cards at the beginning of the year. Both have been compromised since then and had to be cancelled and replaced.
I'm grateful that Chase is so quick at catching it but it's been a huge PITA both times.

I always wonder if it's waiters copying the card when they take it away? I read an article that one waiter waited a year before using the numbers he got. I would assume they are making purchases in person. One scam charge on my account was for auto repair in another state. I couldn't believe my card approved that when I don't live in that state or don't have a car thus never had any car related charges on my card. I got a chip card this year which I hate because it takes longer to scan and I'm always worried someone will come by and just grab it out the machine so I hold it the whole time. But my credit card has started putting temporary holds on my account when I spend more than I normally would. I get an email asking to approve recent charges a minute after I make them. They're good!
