I live in Lands End cotton tanks in the summer. The strap area is wide and the armhole not too large. They've been running sales all summer long.

J.Jill has a good selection of tanks that would be appropriate. TankTop - I was also going to suggest JJill and right now they have 40% off their clearance prices with lots of really nice tanks included. www.jjill.comI pretty much live in Jjill clothes but gave up on their tank tops, because the armholes are WAY too deep and I got tired of flashing that unattractive side boob area.

I'm not a teacher but wore tanks to my courthouse job for years. Just regular tee shirt knit cotton tanks, but always with another top over them. A short sleeve shirt type, or a print shirt maybe with 3/4 sleeves. I would often work in just the tank, but we never knew when a political figure, even our governor, might drop into the office. I was never without the means to appear well covered.

I was just at Kohl's yesterday and they had quite a few patterned shirts that were like a tank top (shell, 3 or so inch wide at the shoulders), but were long like a tunic. I thought they would be great for the heat of summer with a skirt but then work with leggings and a cardigan later in the fall winter. I'm also a teacher and have to dress in layers--bus duty is crazy hot, but my classroom is freezing, so I'm putting on and taking off layers all day long.
