Wondering if when there is a new iPhone released do the prices of the old ones drop? I was just looking at something that said likely in September there will be a new release. Wondering if it's smart to wait until then to get a 6?

Generally, yes they do when a new one is about to come out. And more so when the phone is 2 generations removed from the new offering.

Yep prices definitely drop and there's always a model that's discontinued that sellers try to clear out.

What was the last model iPhone to come out? My 5s is beginning to get sketchy. This fall will be 3 years, so I was thinking of getting a new one.

Yes, they do drop in price substantially. I purchased an iPhone 4 for my mom for $1.99 from Verizon. This was a little while after the iPhone 5 was out. They basically end up giving them away because the majority of their clientele want the newest phones they can get. And my mom didn't care what version of phone she had. I just wanted her to be able to use Suri to dial the phone and open apps and things for her since her eyesight was failing.

I think the 7 is supposed to come out around September 15th.

I doubt we'll ever see $1.99 or $.99 iphones anymore. We may be lucky to get $99 two versions ago phones.

I'm not real current on the phones, but dd is looking at the 6S. The 6's are the latest ones. I read an article that possibly instead of 7's they'll be expanding the 6 line. Last March a cheaper iPhone called the SE came out. As I said, i'm not real up on all the versions, but figured if a newer one is coming out maybe dd would wait to replace hers.

I just got the SE a couple months ago and I love it. I have a 4S and didn't want the bigger 6. The SE is the same size as the 5S but has all the new bells and whistles. I am very happy with it.
I'm in BC and I paid $129 for the phone on a 2 yr contract. Maybe I could have waited and got it cheaper but I needed a new phone because my poor old 4S was struggling to keep up. At the time I got my new one the 6's or 6S were still over $300.

I'm with Verizon Wireless. My son works at the Ocean Center and dropped his phone in the ocean. It died. He was still under contract. I wasn't. I went to Walmart, transferred my upgrade to him and got an IPhone 6 for 98cents plus tax. Of course, we had to do the 2 year contract on it. I know they had deals through Verizon and AT&T. You might want to check with Walmart.

I just got a new iphone 5S (straight talk branded) for my kids to use for $150. No contract. My daughter's ipod touch is really old so she also bought one to use as an ipod, with the option to activate it if she wants to.

It has been rumored that Apple is going to stop putting out phones every year. They cannot do much with the technology that we haven't already seen so instead of doing the 5 then the 5s then 6 then the 6s, there will only be the 7 then 8, etc. This means it will be at least 2 years between releases.

I question this too....I can I believe walk into my carrier and get a new phone for probably nothing. BUT they add a fee to my bill of about $25-30 for I believe 30 months was the latest I saw. So in the end the phone will cost quite a bit. My hope was that if they release in September the price would drop and i'd pay significantly less each month for the same phone. I'm really hoping for that scenario!

This is what we did for my daughter when she got the 5C...although it wasn't THAT much less. With all these new plans the price doesn't drop as much as one would think. I want to say it was a $5 (maybe a little less) a month difference between the 5C and what was the newest phone (I can't remember! lol). She has since upgraded to the 6S....she pays that monthly bill on her own now!

I just coordinated the change of all of our work cell phones. We had 5S and went to 6. The 6 was $100 and they will give us $100 trade on a great condition 5S. I actually got myself the 5SE 64GB for $50 with a $100 trade in. There is no monthly fee for the phones, but I'm not sure if it's just because it's a business account.

Did you trade it in directly through Apple or through your carrier? DD has a 5c with a cracked screen. She wants to get an SE and we're with T-Mobile, which is "bring your own" phone. She hasn't been able to find any deals or discounts on the SE and is debating waiting until September.

Regarding my post above about Walmart. No monthly fee. I bought the phone outright for 98 cents. The only change to my plan was that the phone access fee went up cause both phones are now in contract. So instead of 25.00 a month for access on my line it went to 40.00. Other than that, everything is the same. So I guess it's 15.00 a month more for the phone if you look at it that way. We own the phone outright though.

I was just looking at our Verizon bill yesterday. My phone (over 2yrs old) is a $20/mo access charge. Dh & DS's phones (both less than 2yrs old) had a $40/mo access charge, each. All phones are 5s models.

No I'm not paying for the phone. I'm paying a higher rate for the access like your two newer phones. The older phone was 25.00 and is now 40.00 because it's new. I bought the phone outright. johnnysmom sphmaz Deleted receipt link cause it wasn't working.
