The closest Trader Joe's to my house is an hour and 10 mins away, in the same town that my dh works. They have some stuff I really want to give a try - like the already riced cauliflower. I'm thinking after the kids go back to school I'm going to make a trip there to look around. I've been there a few times but it's been probably a year. That's about how far my TJ's is too. When we go we really stock up.
I always get the riced cauliflower when I'm there. I also get the (frozen) kung pao chicken. We love it! I got some of the chicken won tons last time we were there and they are yummy and low in WW points.

Wow--busy place this morning!!! I went running early this morning but it still felt hot for me. I'm slowly increasing my running part of my running/walking intervals so This morning I ran for 6 min walked for 1 min and I did that 4 times. I wish I could run more but I'm trying to take it gradually so I don't hurt myself or get overwhelmed. My joints ache a lot and it seems worse this week...can't decide if it's the humidity or the running. Anyway, I solider on and you ladies are a huge inspiration to me. Emelle

I did run more than I walked and I refused to walk more than 30 seconds at a time but damn, that just sucked. You're running more than I am! Keep your chin up. I've been monitoring my heartrate with a new vivosmart, and it's encouraging me to walk faster. Some of the readings seem weird though. The scale *finally* moved down yesterday! It's been cool enough to walk outside, which is enjoyable. I ordered some fitness bands so that I can start doing some strength work, which I'm sure I won't enjoy one bit. brandy327 , Myfitnesspal had an article about weight/strength training that had a blurb about building up to actual push ups. I just looked for it to link for you but couldn't find it. I think it was a link inside an article about aging and fitness, which you might not have opened, given your age.

What do you use the riced cauliflower for?! Mind sharing some recipes? I really want to try fried rice with it but I have no clue how to cook it! LOL

I'm not going to give up - it's pissing me off though! I want to be able to run the 25 solid mins...and attempting twice should be enough. LOLOL I'm a tad bit impatient and want things to happen when *I* want vs when it should just happen naturally. Great job on pushing that heartrate. I should really pay more attention to my heartrate. I have a Polar Fitness watch thingamabob that tracks all that kind of stuff and embarrassingly, I have no idea how to use those functions. And even worse, no motivation to even learn. Hmmmm, interesting about the article. I'll go searching for that as I've never tried more than 1 push up before. I'll see if I can find it!! Thanks for the tip!

sharlag I found THIS article and it has video! And I think I may work on this! I was doing the on the knees one that she shows last and says is the most challenging of the modified ones and I was barely able to do 10...and that wasn't getting fully down to the floor either. Thanks again for the tip!!

I use it in place of rice so sometimes I just warm it up. Most times I sauté garlic and shredded carrots (in a little bit of oil) and then toss in the cauliflower rice until it's warmed through. I then put sliced green onions and soy sauce over the top and eat.
I have a co worker that makes breadsticks out of it but I haven't tried it yet.

Sounds like something I can definitely try. It may be a hard sell for the dh though, he doesn't care for cauliflower. Maybe making it like rice though, he will. How long does it take cooking the cauliflower for it to be done?

I found THIS article and it has video! That's the one! She mentions doing up to a 'full set'. I wonder what that means? Is there some universal number in the fitness world that constitutes a 'full set'? I know it has a meaning in the manicure world. On the humorous side, my sister and I got to laughing the other day about the work FITNESS reminding us of the crude comedy line " You're into fitness? Well how bout fitness dick in your mouth? " and now we just throw out the word fitness randomly, then giggle. Save

Hi, everyone! I haven't checked in here in forever. Mainly because I have completely fallen off the diet wagon and I've gained. It's just SO HOT here that I have no energy to sit in the hot kitchen and cook! Anyway, I'm trying to get back in the habit again. I took my son to get his annual physical, and the doctor is concerned about his growth rate. He has slowed way down, so I want to make sure I cook really good food for him and try to get him to stay away from the junk food. He's on the 10% for both height and weight, but we are hoping that he is just a late bloomer. The good news is that the dr also tested him for diabetes and his results were perfectly normal. It's always something in the back of my mind since dd and I are both t1d and it can just strike at any moment. ANYWHO....I bought a ClassPass trial membership last week and so far I've tried 2 new studios. I went to a pole dancing class last week. It was a tough workout, but it's really not my thing, so I probably won't go back. Last night I went to a new pilates studio and did a class on their "megaformer." It was a challenging class, so I'll definitely go back. My butt is super sore today! Tonight I'm going to my regular Orangetheory class. I think today is a strength day btw: brandy327 I stocked up on my TJs riced cauliflower this week! Tonight I'll be making some pork chops with asparagus and some "mashed potatoes"

SaveFrom my research since trying to put together a weights routine, is a "set" can be anywhere from 1-3 depending on the exercise so it's so many reps per one set. A lot of the exercises I'm doing is 2 sets of 25 reps. Me and push ups? 1 set of 10. LOL It's all I can even fathom at this point. LOL Oh now THAT is funny. And I'm pretty sure I've heard my dh say something along those lines. ETA: I've had to edit this post like 5 times. Either I'm too tired to post or I'm just jacked up tonight. LOL

And I hear you about too hot and cooking. For the past 2 weeks, I've made my entire weeks worth of meals in one day and we just reheat throughout the week. I have a 4-5 hour block where I die in the kitchen but then I'm good for the week. The kids aren't big fans but when it's 90 I don't want to be standing over a 500 degree grill or in the kitchen. So tell me how you make your "mashed potatoes". I'm trying to figure out how you drain it...since all of my colanders have larger holes, I imagine it just going right through the colander and into the sink!

Still trucking along out there. I am having a really weird time at work right now and it is frustrating me. I won't bore you all with details, but the silver lining is I have been channeling that frustration into my work outs. I really go full on and try to get all of that negative energy out before I go home so I can just be at peace (and so I won't dump all over my husband.) I met some new ladies through a meet up group and one gal is a kickboxing fan, she goes to my gym and invited me to take a class with her, so I will be trying that out soon! I have never really been one to take classes, but I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone so it will be a good thing. And hopefully I will make a new friend in the process!
Eating has been right on track, even with tempting donuts at work! It is date night tonight and I asked my husband to pick where we go for dinner and I suspect he will want sushi, so I might order sashimi to skip the rice.
As for cauliflower rice, I make fried rice with mine and it is practically the same as real fried rice! It is a little bit crunchier than real rice, but the flavor hardly tastes like cauliflower. I try to be mindful of the amount of soy sauce I use and I never make it the day before I need to be in something for fitting. My husband was skeptical but he loved it and now when I make it I have to double the recipe so he can take it for lunch the next day. It reheat really well. I buy mine from Trader Joe's but you can also make it right in your food processor. I wouldn't make a special trip to TJ's just for their riced cauliflower.

Thanks ladies!! I didn't realize it was frozen! I thought it was in with the regular veggies! Good to know!!! So I think I mentioned last week that my dh and I figured out how to do step challenges with our phones (android). We did one last week with a 30K step challenge and I beat him. So we upped it to 50K the 2nd time. This afternoon around 3, I got a notification that the challenge was coming to an end and I was trailing by a couple of thousand steps. I raced down to the treadmill in my khaki linen skirt and white tank top and no shoes and got my butt walking on the treadmill. Yeah, I won. #gome #idontliketolose #extra30minsofexercise

brandy327 the cauliflower is available in the fresh veggie section. It has been months since I bought it from Trader Joe's since the closest one is 200 mi away. But I found some that looks identical to the TJ's version at Walmart in the produce section as well. I think people are buying it as soon as they stock it because it isn't always available. PS thanks for the welcome!

Hi guys, I've been reading your thread this week and decided to join in. I used to have great metabolism and was skinny until I had my 3rd kid (and a c-section) in 2009 and I have finally gotten serious about doing something about the problem. I currently weigh my 40 weeks pregnant weight from my 1st child and I'm not pregnant (4 kids was enough!) so I started tracking my food (Lose It app) 9 days ago, and so far so good. I haven't eaten over my calories but my weight hasn't budged either. I noticed the app just keeps pushing the end date I should have lost 25 lbs by later into the year, which is annoying. Also it never asked how active I was when it decided how many calories I should eat per day. Does anyone have a better food tracker app? I tried the Fit Bit app but it isn't syncing with the Fit Bit stuff on my real computer so it's kind of useless although it does tell me how many calories I am burning per day which is nice.
Anyway, so I've made it nine days, weirdly I am not that hungry for being on an evil diet and eating less than I used to, but if a package of cookies sneaks into the house I'm doomed. I am hoping the scale moves soon or my motivation is going to be severely tested. Also I haven't started an exercise routine yet. I'm a little scared to start exercising because I know it's going to make me hungry and then the whole counting calories thing is going to go out the window...
In the past 6 years I've tried exercising more, eating smaller portions, not eating certain foods, trying to get DH on board (ha ha ha he needs to lose more than I do) and I've never managed to lose a single pound. It's frustrating.
So that is my long boring story. Thanks for having this thread, maybe it will keep me accountable!

Ok my ladies - the ones who lift weights littlefish - I did a lower body workout yesterday. Today my quads and hamstrings are so sore that they hurt to the touch. I had planned on doing another lower body workout tomorrow - do I work through the pain or wait until they're not as sore?

brandy327 I would say go for a walk instead. Definitely move, and use those muscles, but at a lower intensity. Soreness is to be expected but if you're doing the "grab the wall to sit on the potty" maneuver then you probably want to take it easy for a day. I'd also invest in a foam roller. You can find them online--places like Target and WalMart will have them too, usually for under $20. Rolling out your muscles will help break up some of that lactic acid that's built up. Also, hydrate! Drinking plenty of water will help too. One of my favorite-est bloggers recently posted a guide to starting strength training--I know I bookmarked it, I'll try to find it! Some yoga might help too. As you build strength you won't be as sore as often and you'll also figure out what works best for your body when you are. HTH!

billstergirl - Welcome! So they do have riced cauliflower at Walmart? I want to try it and I am not going to go through all of the hassle to do it myself.
brandy327 - You may think you're going to die, but work through the pain- it will get better. I worked legs today.
AN I'm just now getting around to buying the Fairlife 2% chocolate milk. It is so good and loaded with protein!
My weight is still fluctuating between 120 and 123- can't drop below that 120 mark. It was 121.2 today- I'll take it. Food-wise- I've given up about all I think I can!
littlefish- We posted at the same time. Poor Brandy will be so confused! Guess I'm a hard ass.

Welcome breetheflea! Did the app default you to 1200 calories? That's typically can be too low for most women. The scale may not budge if you're not eating enough! There's nothing wrong with being hungry after you exercise as long as you are refueling your body appropriately. It's like a car, no fuel = no go! Remember it's a journey and a process, and while the hardest part is in the middle, so is the magic.

brandy327 I ditto everything littlefish suggested. You might also enjoy some Epsom salts baths. I find they really help me, but I know people who notice no difference. breetheflea Welcome to our group! Most of us who are not doing Weight Watchers use My Fitness Pal. You could always try that. Also, are you being diligent on measuring out portions! I was way over estimating my portions.

Thanks!! Great article! And it was definitely DOMS. I felt fine when I went to bed...well just a teensy bit sore. But I didn't sleep great and by 2am, boy did they hurt. I got up to use the bathroom at 3 and oh my lawd, I could barely sit! LOL

alexa11, no worries! I will often still workout when I'm sore, but I know my load and/or intensity may suffer a bit because of it. brandy327 elliptical sounds good because you'll get more of that push through your quads--it'll still be sore at first but it will loosen them up a bit. I'm totally a second day soreness kind of a girl. We did a lot of air squats on Monday and a whole bunch of wall ball shots on Tuesday. Felt fine both days but today I was feeling it! I'll look up that guide tomorrow when I'm on my laptop waiting for football tickets to go on sale. My Seahawks are coming to Tampa and I am not missing it!

alexa11 yes! I found it at my Walmart and I live in the pit of the world so your Walmart might carry it too. There is a section where they have bagged vegetables, chopped butternut squash, green beans, etc.. I think I might be Green Giant brand. Let us know if you find it at your Walmart.
