DH works for United in Chicago and just found out they are going to bust 125 full time ramp agents down to part-time this fall. He has 7 years in w/company and not enough to save him---from going part-time.
This merger really blows---it's been an awful 3 years.

My aunt is retired from United. I've been pissed off at them ever since they basically walked away from their pension plan. She worked for them part-time for almost 50 years and I think she's getting like $25/mo from them now.

I'm sorry to hear that. DH works in the airline industry but fortunately isn't in that position. However, there are mechanics that are coming from other airlines like American with 20 years of seniority and basically just starting over because they were laid off.

They merged w/Continental Airlines 3 years ago w/Continental being the managing airline.

An ex-airline employee here (TWA)... working for the airline was the best job I ever had.. I LOVED it.. I loved the people and loved the benefits HOWEVER, the pay sucked and job security is just nuts. Looks like it never changes. Before I left TWA, I received about four layoff notices (which then they would take back).. I finally had enough of it and quit. Otherwise, I did have fun with that job and miss most everything about it except the pay!!
