This breaks my heart. How dare this despicable man accept that vet's hard earned Purple Heart. My heart breaks that this poor man somehow trusts Trump enough to give up his precious award. This upsets me to no end. Shame on Trump for accepting it, shame on him. Trump can't get much lower Trump: 'I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier' Without setting foot on a battlefield, Donald Trump said he received a Purple Heart medal on Tuesday at his rally in Ashburn, Virginia, from a retired lieutenant colonel and supporter. “I said to him, 'Is that like the real one, or is that a copy?” the Republican nominee said moments after taking the stage at a local high school. Story Continued Below Trump recounted the exchange, remarking that the man, who he identified as retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman said, "That's my real Purple Heart. I have such confidence in you." "And I said, 'Man, that’s like big stuff. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart," Trump said. "This was much easier.” Trump then invited Dorfman to appear onstage with him on camera, as the two posed for photographs and Trump flashed a thumbs-up before placing the Purple Heart back in his suit jacket pocket. Trump then told his audience that he had asked Dorfman to speak, but that the man had told him, "No, sir. I’d just like you to keep saying what you’ve been saying.” The Republican nominee has been under fire in recent days for his attacks on the Gold Star family of a fallen Muslim U.S. Army captain who spoke at last week's Democratic National Convention to denounce Trump's comments on immigration. Following Trump's statement, NBC reporter Katy Tur tweeted that she had spoken with Dorfman and that he said the medal he gave to Trump was a copy of the one awarded to him. Dorfman was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in Iraq in 2007. Nothing surprises me with him. I think he is trying hard to not get elected.

I never post on these political threads on here, But Trump saying, "I've always wanted one." Like WTH? he always WANTED one. So why didn't he serve? what makes him even THINK, I want one? where would that even be a possibility?? It's the dumbest comment I have ever heard.

Can you imagine his pain wearing combat boots with heel spurs? The horror??? He is a certified POS! And I think his comment, "this was much easier" is horrifying.

I think it's weird to say you've always wanted one considering what you have to do to receive it. Having said that, the vet has a right to give his belongings to anyone he wishes. They're his to do with as he wishes. And I'd say the same thing if he gave them to Hillary - who also has not served. Nor did her husband.

I think the whole thing was a set up to counter the outcry following Trump's remarks about Capt Khan who was also posthumously the recipient of the same.
There are people out there that are brainwashed ( there's no other word to describe it) by what Trump says and by his action. His followers treat him like some kind of " god ". What's to say that the veteran who owned that Purple Heart isn't one of them and he was prepared to do whatever was asked of him, by one of Trump's campaign team because he, the veteran has been so taken in by him.
Trump doesn't care about the honour of receiving one or the meaning of the Purple Heart.

The fact that he kept it is what totally boggles my mind. Not "thank you for honoring me in this way but you earned this medal through your sacrifice and bravery." He kept it! He is about the lowest form of human I have ever witnessed breathing.

I agree -- the vet has the right to give his purple heart away to anyone, and he earned that right. You'd think the recipient of that gift would be a little more gracious, and thank him for his service and recognize what had to happen for him to receive it. I have absolutely no problem with any of the candidates or their spouses not serving in the military. But I believe that someone who has the opportunity to become the Commander in Chief should be respectful to those who have sacrificed for their country. Trump seemed so flippant about it.

Well, considering he doesn't have a real heart (or brain, for that matter) he must be so happy.

This was a Dick response to an incredible gesture.

I keep seeing the various names that Trump supporters are called here and one of them that isn't mentioned is veterans. I don't agree with or support Trump, but it seems that many of our men and women in uniform (now or in the past) do. Of course he said something flippant and stupid, what else do people expect. What else would we have to post about each hour if not for the stupidity that comes out of his mouth

I agree that it was certainly the vet's right to give the purple heart to trump, but Trumps' response was just disgusting. My own father, who has a purple heart of his own, already loathes Trump. He won't even leave the news on when they start talking about him. Good thing, because I can only imagine how much he would hate this story.

I don't think that is true at all. I wish I could remember where I read it, but just recently I read something that said a recent poll of currently serving military showed that a higher percentage were supporting Mr. Trump. The analysis suggested that it was likely skewed in the direction because as a whole the military tends to traditionally vote more conservatively. But at the same time, there are a lot of pretty vocal veterans and veteran organizations that are against him, so maybe I don't know what I am talking about.

There was a pea here the other day who said she was leaning towards Trump because he was going to help veterans and that is an issue that is important to her. I kept wondering what exactly he was going to do that would help veterans in any way, shape or form.
