When we remodeled the kitchen in April, we purchased a new towel holder (mounted under the cabinet). I held a roll of Bounty towels nicely. We purchased new package of rolls this week. The diameter of the towels seems to be smaller--but what is really a ^&* annoyance is that the roll is just short enough that it won't stay in the holder. I know this type of thing happens--rather than a price increase, but !! now we can't use our new holder. Shame on you, P&G!!

Do you have Costco? The Kirkland brand paper towels come on a full size roll (both the length and width) and are comparable to Bounty.

Not only is Bounty shorter, it must be reformulated because tearing the paper off the roll is a problem. Only half of the sheet comes off. Very frustrating.
I was a die hard Bounty user because I use a lot of paper towels and the quality was so good. Now it's not. I tried Kroger brand Home Sense and found it to be good and cheaper.

I rememeber when this happened with the toilet paper. I say simply raise the price vs shrinking the quanitity because we all know whats going on and we aren't dumb. This goes right along with how companies shrunk the content of packaged goods so now when you are following a recipe you need 2 cans instead of the one and are left with waste fromt he unused portion of the second can Once upon a time you could buy a package of frozen broccoli in a 1 pound pack, just what was needed and now they come in 10 ounce bags Grrrr....

Yes! I realized this when I was making a recipe from my grandmother. She had listed the amount in ounces, which caused me to buy two (I think it was cool whip) and throw out half of one of them. It made me realize how much manufacturers reduce the product. Now when I write down a recipe, I always put ounces (instead of 1 can).

I haven't noticed the length of the roll changing, probably because I use a stand type holder. What is driving me batty is that it is getting harder to find the full sheet Bounty. All the stores seem to be stocking those darn select-a-size rolls (I'm looking at you Costco!) Will have to check out the Kirkland brand. Though as soon as I would switch to them, they will change or discontinue them, like they did with the t.p. in the purple wrapper.

**GypsyGirl** HaHa! I wouldn't buy Bounty on sale because my Costco DIDN'T carry the select a size. I'm using the Kirkland brand now, which I like.

I too hate Bounty Select a Size - difficult to find regular size in multi packs. I may need to try the Kirkland if they have full size ones, as there are no other paper towels I like.

Our Costco doesn't have the select a size rolls either, and that's the only kind I want to buy. Drives me nuts to pull off a big sheet when a half sheet will do. I accidentally bought a giant mega pack of the full sheet rolls at Target and now I have to hide them so DH won't put them in the kitchen. I don't mind having that size in the bathrooms or laundry room, just not in the kitchen.

Our Kirklands at Costco does come in select a size, which I love! Not as much waste since I get to choose what I need at the time. And I think the Kirklands quality is very good!

I've always liked the Kirkland brand and even more so now because they have it in select-a-size.

Our Kirkland brand is the select a size kind, which I prefer.

We always purchase select-a-size, because, as mentioned, it is wasteful to use the big sheet when I just need a little.

And about half of the time that's all Walmart has- I refuse to buy them.

I buy bounty select-a-size in 6-packs (one time I accidentally bought full size and hated them). The last one we bought (before the one we have now) had 1 roll that was too short and kept falling out of the holder. So when I bought another pack I double checked that all rolls are the same, at least. I hope I don't get a pack with 6 short rolls.

If you cut a piece of thicker dowel to the length of the old towels(and paint it to match the holder, if you are so inclined), you can put the short roll of towels on the dowel, and put the dowel into the holder. You still get to be cheesed off about the shorter towels, but at least you can use the holder again

I bought holders that hold the roll pretty tightly just because I almost always grab a sheet off with one hand and don't want to grab the clean part of the roll to stabilize it since I sometimes get a sheet with a less-than-clean set of hands.

I never thought of that We use some really cheap store brand towels and they kind of stick to themselves, so I haven't had that happen.

What if you added rubber bands on the dowel to increase friction at crucial points?

My husband, who is very skilled with mechanical things, put a spacer on the part of the holder that holds the towels. It grips the roll tighter now.
Before he retired, he worked creating precision instruments. He went out and measured the length of the rolls (We purchased a package of 6 rolls). The rolls varied 1/8th to 5/16th shorter vs the last roll we had purchased. Apparently P&G has a quality control problem on the machine that cuts the rolls.
Trivia for you: toilet paper and paper towels are created in very long rolls and then a machine cuts the lengths for the individual rolls.
