For the past month I have not been able to sleep for more than 2-3 hours a night. I go to bed, fall asleep and after about ten minutes I am jolted awake. It almost feels like I was shocked. I am then wired for the rest of the night. I have tried melatonin, Tylonol PM and even resorted to a muscle relaxer. The only thing they do is make me groggier when I finally do wake up after falling asleep around 4 or 5 in the morning. I go back to work in 2 weeks and I'm getting desperate! Anyone here ever get zapped awake? I'll take all suggestions. I can not deal with high school students feeling like this!

The fact that you are "zapped" awake makes me suspect you have sleep disturbance/stop breathing. You should talk to your doctor, maybe have a sleep study done.

(((HUGS)))
I second the sleep study advice. I was completely amazed and blown away with my results. I was having the same "Zapped awake" issues and found it to be sleep apnea on a pretty severe level. I would get this checked and hopefully ruled out before you start back to work.
BTW...mine came on suddenly, it was not something that started slowly and got worse with time.

I agree, it sounds like you are having apnea issues.

I am sorry you are going through this. I have sleep problems too but I am on medication to help with it now. I too had to have a sleep study done.

Right now I am getting 2-3 hours a night. I don't feel good! At all. It is stressing me out and I feel like [HASH]$#
You I get! I take Trazodone to sleep. It is supposed to help. It helped for a while. I am supposed to take 150 mg and I take 75 because I don't want to sleep until 10 am. My BFF took it and she took 300. I was whoa! That's a lot! But it worked for her.
You should talk to your doctor to see if you need short term Lunesta or Ambien is right? Or maybe it's not I am not sure as I don't even play a doctor on TV. I hope you can get some relief!

I'm going through a bout of insomnia myself, so you have my sympathy. I think the peas have an excellent point about sleep apnea. If you are able to fall asleep, but wake up suddenly, I would mention that to the doctor.

I wake frequently due to having peripheral neuropathy in my feet and even with meds it wakes me up. Going to try the magnesium again because I too am a zombie during the day. I no longer work outside the house so that helps, but sure would like to be able to be involved more with me family...
