I routinely have a mouth full of blood. Like others, I often type out a long response then hit delete because it's just not worth it.

I'm not a big fan of snark/sarcasm because, by definition, it's intentionally hurtful. I don't always succeed and have dished out my share of sarcasm, but I try very hard not to hurt people. While it may seem entertaining or amusing, the person on the receiving end is rarely amused. I try to remember that. IRL I use sarcasm a lot, but I don't feel I use it as something hurtful at all. I tend to use it when describing a situation. Sarcasm & hyperbole are my favorites. Sarcasm can be definitely be cutting remarks meant to hurt someone, but it can also simply be stating the opposite of the true situation to bring a bit of humor to the conversation. I don't use either here as much because without the smile or wink or laugh you see in real life, there is nothing to clue you in that I am not being literal or mean. So I try to stick to more clear language and less silliness as not to accidentally upset someone. Now snark, on the other hand, I do definitely see that as something meant to be biting against someone else.

So my kids want to see the new planes movie. DH asked me (privately) if I was going to take them. I told him that I couldn't wait to take them "because the original Planes was my favorite movie ever!" Which was sarcasm for "I might rather die than ever watch Planes again." Which was the hyperbole I love so much, because really, I'd rather not die.

I'm naturally a think-about-it-a-moment kind of person so, for me, it's more the way I do things than actually biting my tongue. I did go through a period when I thought I should try to be more spontaneous but got myself into some trouble doing that. So, back to my usual self. I am very sarcastic inside my own head though.
