I've been scrapbooking for years, like, at least 20, and I'm finally jumping on the Project Life train. I love the look of it, I think I'll love the ease of it, and I have tons of product already, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I've saved dozens of ideas on my Pinterest account, even bought a few magazines, but when I sit down to start, I'm completely stumped. I think it may be the format of the page protectors that inhibits my creativity. All of my photos are always printed 4x6, so I think that's the first hurdle. I'm used to cropping/trimming my photos and immediately mounting the majority of them on white CS, then working them into a layout from there.
I love to use embellishments, and like I said, I have loads of pocket-page cards ready to go, so I feel like this really shouldn't be that hard for me, but I am absolutely frozen.
Anyone have any tips on how you made the switch?
Michele

Honestly, if you have divided protectors and the journaling cards, etc. all you gotta do is slip them along with your photos into the protectors. You really don't have to embellish further at all. Becky Higgins has plenty of older videos explaining her intended purpose of PL. It's suppose to be simple and easy and fun!

I am like you - I took the plunge and ordered some cards and pocket pages off Becky Higgin's site - there are some on sale - and will just dive in. I have so many events that haven't been scrapbooked, I feel I need to do something

Have fun - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I start PL last year after my niece was born and just love it. Make it what you want - simple or lots of embellishments, mix in 12 x 12 or other size layouts as well, or just stick with the pockets. I started by setting up my album - slotting in some cards on the first and last pages and a couple of journaling cards on each pocket page, plus adding a few filler cards for events I knew I wanted to cover. I'm doing my niece's baby album on a monthly basis, but you can do daily, weeekly, whatever appeals. Once I had the skeleton of my album in place, I just started choosing photos and printing what I needed for the first month. Just dive in

Just start slipping those photos in- it will start to come together! Using your stash is nice because you can just cut down all of your papers to 3x4 or 4x6. I usually do that while watching TV so I have some ready. My process is usually photos-paper-journaling-embellishments.

I agree; once you start placing those photos in, you will be amazed at your progress I typically choose my page protectors first, then add photos, journal cards, embellishments, etc.

Have fun OP! I enjoy PL immensely and don't see myself stopping and switching to traditional scrapping anytime soon.

I definitely start with photos. Take a look at your photos from a specific period of time (a week, a month, an event) and figure out how many vertical and horizontal pics you have. Then figure out which page protectors you can slip those pics into. I use a variety of pocket pages, but a lot of people use just Design A and Design D. I find that confining, but it can help give you structure to limit your choices at first. I was overwhelmed at first when I bought a variety pack because it had too many options in it. I use a Canon Selphy to print my pics at home. On my Mac, I select 2 pics and Ctrl+P to print them... I choose the custom size and print 2 on one page at 2.5" x 3.5" (to get that white border). I have mostly vertical pics and prefer them to be in a 3x4 pocket. If you aren't wanting the white border, you can use an app on your phone to create a 4x6 with 2 pics on it. Hope that all makes sense...

It takes a little time (at least it did for me) to adjust to the pockets. I've been doing my entire Disney trip album using pocket pages and the first handful took a lot longer. Now I'm whipping through them like crazy!
Like others said, start with the photos. Based on that, pick out what colors, cards and embellishments you want and just start slipping things in those pockets! One of my biggest breakthroughs was figuring out how to resize my photos in photoshop so I could print smaller sizes on 4x6 prints. Lifesaver!!!

I'm starting slowly, just dipping my toes in. I've been intimidated by it for a while, but this month I decided to do a 30 Days of Lists with my pocket pages to get me started. I saw a lot of my crafty YT friends making mini books for their lists, but I thought it would be more convenient to store and more easily looked at if I kept it in a scrapbook binder. It's really getting me motivated & I'm thinking about what I'm going to scrapbook once my project is over.
