It looks like Becky on IG put something out that she was going send out an e-mail that could be considered contriversial. It ended up being about a scanner and one day she just may scan her older layouts and then throw them away. I'm not signed up to her e-mails and I quit her IG awhile back. Is that the story now? Buy my stuff, use it, scan it with a $500.00 scanner I'm promoting and then throw my stuff away? Huh? Anyone get the e-mail? I got the email and yes that was the gist of it. I thought to myself what the f*ck is the point of scrapbooking anymore when the people selling the product are encouraging us to throw it away?!?! I thought when the project life app came out she was promoting getting all our pix off our iPhones. Seems like she's taking ten steps backwards. The woman is batshit crazy.

I am a huge project life fan (pretty much the only way I document) and this just confuses the hell out of me.

Agreed! Over 10 years ago she was all about getting scrapbooking done complete with individual albums for each of her kids plus school albums and handlettering put the wazoo. The it was project 365 a day take pictures of everyday of your life. Then it was PL and scrap faster and better because everything is a waste of time. Then she says use the PL app on your phone and scrapbook easier and don't bother being creative. Now it's scan and throw out? She's been credited with helping boost the scrapbooking community in the last 5 years but this is ridiculous! She should turn in her sb membership card!

Can't wait to see how those archival inks she uses for all those core/mini/value kits she sold are going to age...

I think I might consider photographing/scanning my planners and tossing them, but my scrapbooks? No way!

She's definitely embracing the non crafty people as her target audience versus traditional scrapbookers. It's kind of sad, but I can also understand why she'd think it's a good strategy. Tiny houses, minimalism in what one owns and the like is a big movement right now and while it alienates those of us that like to have something physical to touch and like to make things with our hands, the idea of less mixes well with the digital era and the 'I'm too busy to have a hobby' mentality of people.
I, however, feel more like the member who's signature includes 'stop the overglorification of busy.' Busy is seriously overrated. But maybe that's just my way of thinking as a homebody and an introvert who likes quiet and not keeping an impossible to keep up with schedule where the next 5 years of my every second is meticulously planned out already.

Well, thanks to this thread, I ran to TM at lunch. I now have 2 very pretty rolls of Stone Wrap paper and a new chew toy for my puppy. Maybe I should cover the chew toy with the wrapping paper!

This might come off a bit more snarky than I mean it, but it doesn't quite seem like she began with the end in mind.... 😂

I, however, feel more like the member who's signature includes 'stop the overglorification of busy.' Busy is seriously overrated. It's an understandable move but I'm not convinced it's the right one to make. She's essentially going to try and place her brand as the middle man between social media and one-place-for-all-those-daily-memories. I can already imagine the sales pitch video: "And you're uploading these photos to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and what-not, but like everything else including the paper products I was selling just yesterday, these sites will disappear. Or you'll never get the full picture because you're just scrolling through all these feeds. It takes time and energy and who does that? We're all busy. With life, work, kids, hobbies. So, let me present Project Life: where you can regroup all those precious memories in one place." She's effectively moving the place from the albums on the shelves to digital? Turning PL into one big life feed. I bet she's going to be selling book printing plans specifically made for her PL app layouts next. This is madness. We're just going around in circles non-stop. Get rid of the physical, make digital, but oh how nice it is to have the product in a physical format, get it all printed! As you put it: it's alienating for her customers and it's assuming that this type of memory-keeping is just "the next step" for social media-loving younger peeps. I don't know how in depth their research was but my gut instinct as part of that generation is that it won't grow deep cash-converting roots. I don't see my friends jumping on board with this. We are the small space minimalist younger target. The only one doing PL is the one who wants a little more than only Blurb/Artifact Uprising books of holiday pictures, me. I guess time will tell... This might come off a bit more snarky than I mean it, but it doesn't quite seem like she began with the end in mind.... 😂

I believe that they do offer a printing service via the PL app

I believe that they do offer a printing service via the PL app Yep, they do. But they'll branch it out to proper bound photo books. Between the cost of the scanner and printing (because you're not going to keep all those albums in only digital format), BH is effectively making her customers pay twice for the same album in just a different format. "Page protectors and D-rings are out, perfect little printed books are in."

So they can convince you to move all of your precious pix and memories to their service and then take it away after 5 or 7 years like SC did with the Big Picture Classes? No thanks.

Or make you pay for cloud storage for all your PL app layouts. Becky's got the regular money income from her customers really figured out with this plan.

It makes zero sense to me why someone who sells product to make scrapbooks is essentially saying, "Don't bother. You will regret it later".

Let's see. So I can pay a monthly subscription to keep my pics in the cloud in a virtual album or I can have Real albums in my house for free and touch my son's first hand-writing whenever I feel like it.

I'm wondering about how much backlash BH is going to take with all this? It seems so slap in the face to scrapbook ers. I know I feel insulted by all of this. It's like she's insinuating that because I paper scrapbook and keep my albums (gasp!) that I'm either crazy or ignorant.

There will always be people like Tracie Claiborne willing to defend her at all costs.

Until then, please continue supporting my business and lifestyle by buying the physical products I'm still launching and still have in stock. Don't worry: you can scan these later on... Posted 3h ago on YT with all caps "BUY NOW!" in the description :

So basically, Becky Higgins is saying, 'buy the physical things I sell, then throw it away because you don't need that clutter!!!' Does that sound ridiculous to just me? I mean, with the quality issues, typos, and packaging turning into crap, physical is basically an afterthought for her, anyway. But if she's all for less stuff, why the hell does she release like 900 new kits a year now? Keep it to 1 or 2 a season if you're about minimalism. Oh wait...nevermind...the physical documenter's approach is lame and so 3 years ago, but our money is still good enough.
Her advertising is also a slap in the face to people who do physical documenting...she mentions the intricacy some of us enjoy and then basically says, 'you don't need to do that, that's not what PL was supposed to be.' So to her, in spite of her offering ephemera and 6x6 paper pads now, we're doing it wrong.

Boom, photo books announced! I can't believe I sat through half a PL photo rescue operation at past 1AM over here nonetheless to see if there would be such info but I had a hunch that any future photo book product might get teased when I saw it was her shop manager who was in the hot seat for photo rescue... It was the perfect future product placement opportunity.
If the time stamp doesn't work, just skip the video to around the 11:55 mark.

So, if it is a collab w/Chatbooks, it looks like Chatbooks is another BYU-funded and Venture Capital-funded company w/a "mom of 7" as the figurehead "co-founder" (which means she co-signed the incorporation papers - co-founder says nothing about who runs a company or makes decisions about it now) and a bunch of VC guys at the back putting up the front money and taking a big hunk of the profits. Here is the mgmt team. Note all the dudes in 'C' level positions while Vanessa fronts the company for press releases and IG. link" Chatbooks is a subscription-based service that automatically turns your digital photos into photo books. Headquartered in Provo, Utah, Chatbooks is backed by Signal Peak Ventures, Kickstart Seed Fund, Peterson Ventures, and BYU Cougar Capital." link

I am still on her Facebook feed and I noticed she is pushing using the App and that those posts far outnumber the ones about the physical PL product. So when I read that e-mail and also that she was meeting with the people at Chatbooks I could see the pieces falling into place.
I was a big fan of her in the CK days and even though after my last move I had to get rid of a lot of my magazines I kept all her books. So I agree with those that say this feels like a slap in the face especially to the people like me who are still doing traditional scrapbooking.
Also these scanners and printers she talks about are expensive, not everybody has that kind of expendable income. To be honest I went a little crazy buying products to make my daughter's scrapbook but it was $20 here and there over a period of years, not hundreds for one purchase.
