I had an epiphany.
She is all about minimalism and not having too much and her HOME launch with wrapping paper, a physical product, is the perfect physical product that you don't actually KEEP, you give it away and then the recipient throws it away. Nothing (unless you hoard wrapping paper) gets added to your own home. Maybe there is a method to the madness after all.

So, if it is a collab w/Chatbooks, it looks like Chatbooks is another BYU-funded and Venture Capital-funded company w/a "mom of 7" as the figurehead "co-founder" (which means she co-signed the incorporation papers - co-founder says nothing about who runs a company or makes decisions about it now) and a bunch of VC guys at the back putting up the front money and taking a big hunk of the profits. Here is the mgmt team. Note all the dudes in 'C' level positions while Vanessa fronts the company for press releases and IG. link" Chatbooks is a subscription-based service that automatically turns your digital photos into photo books. Headquartered in Provo, Utah, Chatbooks is backed by Signal Peak Ventures, Kickstart Seed Fund, Peterson Ventures, and BYU Cougar Capital." linkI'm fascinated by all the SB mafia talk. Teach me! (there was a SB blog that explained a lot about how several companies - and the men behind them - were intertwined but I can't find it again which is a shame as I'd love to delve a little more into this aspect of the big bucks SB business)

So your theory is good, but I still think it basically boils down to making $$$$$$$ (not that there's anything wrong with making money). But like I said before, as a long time fan back from her traditional scrapbooking days I can't help but feel like I am being discarded too (*sniff* LOL).

The email indicated that she didn't actually know much about the scanner in question, and yet I wouldn't be surprised to see a scanner with her name on it very soon.

Wouldn't it not be funny if years from now BH declared that traditional scrapping really is the way to go because that's the way generations past did it or some such reason and launched a new line of supplies?

I remember Lisa Bearnson after years of being the head of CK started pushing Snapfish or Shutterfly digital photo books and I also thought that was a money grab that went against her original philosophy. Especially since she is back to promoting scrapbook items again.

This is my first post on this thread, and I'll keep it brief, I promise.
1. I'm in agreement with the majority of Peas who felt the HOME launch was a mess. I have lots of suggestions for BH based on a sales and marketing background, but she didn't ask for my input.
2. I don't feel slighted, as some of you have stated you feel, because BH now seems to be pushing scanners and other electronic stuff, and of course her digital app. It's still all about saving our memories and our stories, whether on paper or in the cloud, and some prefer doing it one way over the other. Everybody likes having options, and she's in the business of trying to sell all her customers what they want. Nothing wrong with that.
3. And the rest of this thread, well that was just sad to watch unfold. I'll stop there.

I don't think anyone has any issues with her making money but the fact that she's made a pretty penny selling the project life concept, introducing more core and mini kits that make your head spin year after year and now she's saying scan all of your layouts and junk the rest? It's like a 180 degree turnaround in what she'd always advocated. So in essence, do the work, scan and through it out, wasting paper and supplies ( not great for the environment either). I realize people change and can come around to a different way of thinking but I still don't care to be told what I'm doing is a waste of time.

I realize people change and can come around to a different way of thinking but I still don't care to be told what I'm doing is a waste of time. I guess I don't see where she's telling us paper scrapping is a waste of time/ money/ resources. I know that eventually I'm going to want to scan all my paper layouts and print them in books that will take up a fraction of the space that the originals do. I have one family album, and last I counted I think I was up to volume 16ish, and I'm nowhere near done. I don't want to burden my kids with all of that, and I don't want them to argue over who gets what. Scanning and printing my books is the best way I can think of for my 3 kids to have the layouts they want without the burden of carrying and storing the library I've created ( those books are heavy! ) Other paper scrappers might want to scan their pages to store online somewhere else in case of fire or other disasters. Just because one customer doesn't have a need for a product doesn't mean it's not valuable to another customer. It just means they're not the target audience for that product. Scanning and reprinting doesn't devalue what paper scrappers do. ETA, if BH is scanning and then tossing her paper layouts, maybe it's because with all the product demos she's had to produce, she has a ton more layouts than the average person, and maybe they don't all mean the same to her that ours do to us. I bet she won't be pitching her family albums anytime soon.

I'm wondering about how much backlash BH is going to take with all this? It seems so slap in the face to scrapbook ers. I know I feel insulted by all of this. It's like she's insinuating that because I paper scrapbook and keep my albums (gasp!) that I'm either crazy or ignorant. It's one thing to move on because a hobby no longer fits your lifestyle. It's another thing to belittle those that choose to stay. I'm beginning to think she will go back to making regular pages when it's the popular thing that makes money. Every hobby recycles itself in some way. AND this is why I never got into the scrapbook celebrity craze because they are business trying to make a profit. The problem is not keeping it professional. Can I just say I LOVE THIS PLACE! Nothing is being sold; products, classes, podcasts,..... It's so refreshing to be able to talk honestly; especially scrapbook deals!

It makes zero sense to me why someone who sells product to make scrapbooks is essentially saying, "Don't bother. You will regret it later".
It wouldn't bother me if she had reduced her paper line and strengthened her digital products. Her life has evolved, she might view scrapping a different way. But it comes off she's just trying to grab any piece of the market she can, however, without purpose. She even could have written a scanning statement in a way to tie the two activities together, but didn't. Her business plan appears so haphazard. It makes me respect people like CZ, Heidi and Ali who appear to enjoy the process and support it as an activity while they sell their wares.

... But it comes off she's just trying to grab any piece of the market she can, however, without purpose. ... Her business plan appears so haphazard. Oh, I agree. She doesn't seem to have a plan at all. She appears to be making her business decisions at whim (at least lately.) She really needs to take a step back and consider what her brand should stand for. It's not just about product, it's about association. Scrappers first knew her from multi photo scrapping, so the transition to PL made sense to her customer base. Her message was make it easy, get it done. How the hell does her HOME line fit that message? And now she's being careless in her presentation and offending her customer base. Maybe that's a hazard that people who are the face of their business occasionally deal with. When they open their mouths, they sometimes forget they're working. We saw a fine example of that on this very thread. Not such a good thing.

it seems to be an underlying message from BH that comes from her "cultivate a good life" tag line. Its all about get the scrapbooking done and move on. She admits herself that her main focus is to get her pictures into digital PL via the app and print them out and move on. That's fine but seems contradictory to her product lines which include embellishments, tools, paper pads, mini kits with extras in them and more core kits than I can remember. Her selling tag line is scrapbook quickly and simply but then she's hocking everything under the sun. Then she's saying how she can't believe she used to spend so much time scrapbooking in the past, now she takes pictures on her phone (cough cough apple product placement) and she scrapbooks them right away. Look at me! My vacation photos are already scrapbooked and printed in a digital book! You should want to be like me! Sorry but it rubs me the wrong way. Yup I know its not a personal attack on me but we blast SC for being all money hungry, "oh no one has time to make cards anymore so no card kit! Oh here are great stamps that would work well on cards!" and here BH is doing the same thing. The only difference is her customer service is better.
Totally get that I might be blasted for this but its my opinion and the vibe I get from her.

Especially the wrapping paper--if we are supposed to be that ever loving busy then make gift bags because wrapping takes too much time. I hate this new must stay busy all the time vibe going on. I work my ass off at my job so when I get home each night I make it a point to be as lazy as possible.

needtime2scrap and msliz you won't get grief from me. If you want to be the face and spirit of a company or a "movement", get your message straight. I buy from faceless corporate entities all the time and never give a second thought to their concept. But if you put yourself out there to be Martha Stewart, be prepared. ETA @juliehenry4 it's like she thinks scrapbooking is a chore to be checked off the list. I guess that's fine. Maybe that's where her religion plays a role, record keeping? It's a relaxing escape from the busyness for me.

Oh here are great stamps that would work well on cards!" and here BH is doing the same thing. The only difference is her customer service is better. Totally get that I might be blasted for this but its my opinion and the vibe I get from her. This, exactly. She used to have only a few core kits and talk about how she wouldn't ever add embellishments and too many options because that wasn't her message, so she partnered with companies like studio calico if that was your thing you could go there... but if you wanted simple, buy from her. And now she's turned into an explosion of products that it is anything but simple. And she's always just rubbed me the wrong way... very fake, and the whole "because someone will ask" stuff made me want to not follow her anymore. (Totally not trying to stir up the pot from a few pages back, just my take on things!! Also, I can't believe this thread is still going).
Her customer service is better, but their quality control is so crappy it doesn't matter. I ordered one of the faux leather albums and the cover was all buckled and wrinkly. I sent in a photo and asked for a replacement and they said I didn't have to send back the bad one, they would just send it to me, so great. I was happy. But then, it came 2 weeks later, and the second one was almost as bad! Thankfully it was mostly on the back, so I just sucked it up and kept it because I don't want to deal with photographing it, emailing them, waiting 2 weeks for it to be delivered (which is a hassle in itself because I work full time so no one is home and they often don't leave packages so I have to go pick them up), I don't have time for that! But for a $30+ album, they should have better quality control. And that wasn't the first issue I've had with their products, plus I hate the round corners, so I'm pretty much done ordering from her.
ETA: On the scanner issue, I kinda like the idea of being able to scan my albums as a back up in case of fire/flood, so they aren't lost forever. But not for $500. Maybe if there was a place I could take them in and scan them for a fee...

The issue comes when someone, esp. someone w/ as GIANT a megaphone as BH starts sending out the implication that we ALL want it to be speedy and no-muss, no-fuss. I don't think she means to, but she often gives out a vibe that her way is THE way to do something. Whereas most other name-scrappers don't give me that feeling. So, yes, I don't follow her anymore, but it's been interesting to go check her IG from time to time because of this thread, and to be reminded why I stopped following her.

What I see as offering options for scrapbookers, you see as hypocritical and insincere. I'll look into everything again with your POV in mind. ETA, okay, I've been re watching Becky videos for hours and hours, and I've seen her talk about scanners and app scrapping. I still just see it as her offering other options for memory keeping. I'm not offended or disappointed in any way. I really tried to be, but I'm just not. Am I missing something? Was there one video in particular (aside from the wrapping paper ridiculousness) that got everyone riled up?

it's like she thinks scrapbooking is a chore to be checked off the list. I guess that's fine. Maybe that's where her religion plays a role, record keeping? That's a very interesting point. BH is a poster child for her Church as a successful Mormon (which they greatly assimilate with material wealth from my understanding). And she posts a lot about the Temple on IG which surprises me as it seems pretty alienating but whatever, I'm not American so I don't get all the nuances of US christianity. It does bring up the question whether she understands that today's busy (or not) mothers (and single gals) are not all in that Mormon mindset of having to keep up with the present-day genealogy of the family. I don't even scrap for when I'm gone and six feet under. I scrap for me. This is a hobby for many. Not something we smile and pretend to love just because it's part of our task as female headship of the family. I think most of her customers are not expected to journal and photograph family life by the rest of their community. But her way of talking about the product makes it seem like she's casting a wide net and applying that scrapbooking-is-a-task to all scrappers. It doesn't register with her that some of us do this for fun and can walk away from this whenever it stops being fun without any guilt, shame or failing at a social duty. We enjoy the artistic and aesthetic qualities of it, we are more than willing to trade some of our free time for achieving the final result, we even *gasp* enjoy the process, we don't want or need to do a spread in under 5 minutes and "be done with it".

The chore part is the journaling for me. I have no problem posting a story on FB with a photo that ends up in my scrapbooks, but physically writing it down is a chore...the more recent the easier it is for words to flow so that's a plus. Is that weird? I love the rest of it, though. Especially how proud I feel when I finish something. I stopped following her in the midst of this thread (but the aftermath of Tracie) and actually stopped following another person just last night because everything she posts now seems like a plug (and not just for what she sells, she's gotten on so many DT's that she is plugging other people's stuff constantly, too). I follow those companies and get the same information from them directly...I didn't follow her for that information, I followed her for inspiration, but all I get these days is a sales pitch. I'd be more interested in the product being repeated if I saw her posting things she's done using the product (like Suse and Irit), but it's just stock photos from the company.

We enjoy the artistic and aesthetic qualities of it, we are more than willing to trade some of our free time for achieving the final result, we even *gasp* enjoy the process, we don't want or need to do a spread in under 5 minutes and "be done with it". Sometimes I stress about the thought of "getting behind" but mostly because I am afraid I will forget details when I get ready to scrap it, not because I want it all to be scrapbooked because then I won't have anything to work on! My boyfriend has pointed out that I enjoy the process much more than the final albums, although I do look through them, it really isn't that often and my "favorite" spreads are always more recent as my style changes and, IMO, I become better at creating pretty pages. I like that I have all these albums that tell my story and they are great to look back on when I'm feeling particularly sentimental or wanting to be reminded of the good in my life, but in reality, the main reason I scrapbook is because I love the process! I agree BH's religion might have something to do with her mindset, I hadn't really thought of it in that way. I think that there are also lots of blog posts/discussions about "how to keep up with project life" and "what to do when you get behind in project life" that contribute as well. But, like I said above, this isn't a problem to me because I don't want to scrapbook, it's only a problem because I'm worried I won't have time to scrapbook everything I want before I forget the details.

I'll buy her products I just don't need it in my face everyday about how families are forever and how blessed they all are. Yeah, they're blessed alright with husbands in weathly careers. I live in Utah, I'm technically a Mormon but no longer attend church. I know very few Mormons who even bother with srapbooking. They are like a lot of people, moved onto photo books or just keep photos on their cameras. It is no longer a big deal. I constantly find lots of scrapbook products at yard sales. So, it's not like there's this big cult group of LDS members following her. The thing about Mormonism, is it is all encompassing. Three hours of weekly church, visiting teaching, temple attendance, church callings (usually more than 1), Sunday meetings, once a week weekly meetings... It's hard to do much outside the religion because of all that is required. When you look at the number of members worldwide and those who are actually active, the numbers are much lower than the estimated 15 million. It makes you wonder, why say so much about a religion who has had definite controversy in the last few years especially with LGBT issues, BUT... It's highly encouraged to share the gospel and not be ashamed of proclaiming your religion, so I see why it's hard for members to not separate the two. I've seen many businesses run by Mormons flourish who aren't preachy, others where it becomes clique-ish, and some that are way out there (foot zoning, essential oils, and energy healing to the extreme). I honestly don't think she sees her posts as bragging, it's all about how proud she is to be a Mormon. It's ingrained to do this from a very young age. Also, since you don't follow Heidi her life is not all sunshine and rainbows. Unfortunately her son committed suicide with in the last year-year and a half.

I know that, I followed her and even sent a gift and card after Corey's passing. No ones life is sunshinr and roses. But sometimes it's ok to just feel bad and be upset and I guess the Mormon way of being thankful and only focusing on the positives is off putting me. Shit most definitely happens. Thanks for the lecture though.

Holy cow! Jennifer's new home is amazing! Going to love following that feed! Great...just great. Now I have to go track down that awesome rug she posted. And be jealous that she refinished her wood floors. I wish I had been able to do that when we moved this last time. Oh well...early 90s light wood is due for a comeback, right? As for the BH wrapping paper, I'll take a pass. My sister has given me some gifts wrapped in that "indestructible" paper and I HATED it....what's the point of paper that won't tear?! That said, I give credit to BH for spotting another business opportunity. The PL popularity will wane at some point, so she is trying to diversify.

Becky Higgins isn't the only scrapbooker expanding into wrapping paper In the past two days, I saw that Heidi Swapp and Anna Griffin have announced their own wrapping paper. Anna's paper, which will debut on the HSN 24 hour craft day on October 5th, comes in a clever box with a cutter. Prices haven't been announced. As far as I know, neither were filmed dancing with roles of paper, although Anna revealed the product on one of her HSN sneak peek videos on her blog.

Thanks for the lecture though. I'm sorry you thought I was lecturing you. I was just trying to explain there's a different way of thinking when you are essentially a member your entire life (technically children are baptized at eight). Promoting the gospel is a big deal. The PR department of the LDS church is very media savvy. They encourage members to do the same if they have a social media presence. With any religion, you want to portray it in the most positive light and how being a member makes your life better. You said you no longer follow Heidi, so I wrongly thought you didn't know about her son. I'm sorry about that. I know a family whose daughter was ran over in a freak accident. They took it so much better than I would have; families are forever, we'll see her again. That was honestly one of the hardest things for me being a member; staying positive. I was not allowed to have a forever family because of my husband's choices (long story about LDS doctrine and not worth discussing on this thread). Trust me, I get the annoyance. I'm the only black sheep in my family. What my family finds exhilarating and happy happy joy joy; I find draining.

There is a heavy LDS presence in my town. I've never been exposed to it until I moved here. I'm not interested in religion but I have mad respect for Mormons. I may not agree with everything they preach, but I respect their dedication and admire how hard working most of them are. There is too much good about Heidi Swapp for me to just brush her off. She is an amazing human being. Plus she helps me make pretty things.

I was "wrapping" a gift this morning (i.e., putting it in a gift bag since I hate wrapping) and I got to thinking about the Home stuff by BH and what ever happened to it.....
Admittedly, I don't follow BH on IG but I figured if she ever did more w/the HOME line than just wrapping paper, my pea media would know about it. So, since I haven't heard any news about this, I decided to check her blog.
2nd entry:
"Stone wrap now at JOANN stores!
You know how much we love our Stone Wrap and how proud we are to offer a variety of patterns – based on our Project Life® designs – for you to choose from. Our friends at JOANN Stores also fell in love when they saw and sampled our Stone Wrap so you know what that means, right?? […]"
Ummmm. 40% off coupon? Or will it be exempted? In either case, still no thanks on the wrapping paper. But has anyone heard of any extensions of this super amazing, dance-worthy line?
