Here's my funky wedding dress:
It's long and has a train. I was thinking of cutting it off to calf length and adding a pinafore and having some fun pictures taken next summer. Cuz really, what am I ever going to do with it again?
I shot a wedding over the weekend and the bride's grandmother before she passed away didn't know what to do with her dress so she cut it up and made ring bearer pillows for all her grandkids. I thought that might be fun to do with the white parts of the dress.
I'm in full on declutter mode of my life if you can't tell.

Sorry, I have no suggestions/ideas. I just want to say how pretty this picture is! You look so happy and the backdrop is beautiful!

I love your dress! It is beautiful and not traditional/yet traditional at the same time.
I don't know what a pinafore is, but if it gets you to were that again, go for it.

I love that first picture of you, and love that you're wearing a nontraditional dress! You look adorable! I need to think of something fun to do with mine. I have no problems cutting it up - I just want to use it for something that will be worth cutting it up for.

No because imho altered wedding dresses look like altered wedding dresses. Now in your case you have a more unique dress and probably can alter it to fulfill the vision you have, good luck!

You look lovely and blissfully in love. I like your non-traditional wedding gown. But if you start cutting it up you might end up with a wonder woman costume. Which isn't the worst thing ever.

And considering that this was taken 4 years after we were married, it says something to say I look blissfully in love (we are still). (well, most of the time, until he eats my enchiladas)

I still have the very formal wedding gown from my first marriage over 25 years ago. I originally thought of making four ring bearers' pillows for my four boys to use at their weddings.
But I recently heard on the radio about making Christening/burial gowns from wedding gowns for premature babies that don't make it. The story about it said so many of the moms have no means of providing anything special for their babies. And I thought that sounded like such a sweet thing. But I haven't looked up any more information about it yet beyond what I remember from the radio. Maybe if someone here knows any thing about it, they can link us to a source?

Oh, and Freebird --- I love the Wonder Woman idea! And then wear that to take pictures at monuments around the country. Haha.

Spongemom.. I know the answer to this! I had a bride the other day that said she had a wedding dress for a marriage that never happened. I suggested Angel Gowns as something to think about. You have to mail off the dress but that's really not that big of a deal.

I didn't cut up my wedding gown but I did cut up the train from it which was all lace. I made a tablecloth and a dresser scarf out of it. It was a snowflake-y sort of pattern and we were married at Christmas-time so the other pieces I cut out and starched and hung on our tree for years. Every time we dined in on our anniversary I'd put it on the table. My mom just about killed me when I told her but it's been almost 34 years and the dresser scarf is till on top of my cedar chest. I've never regretted it.

I think the dress would look costume-y, but if that's what you're going for, do it. I love the original--maybe donate it to an organization that outfits military brides?
