There is no one answer for that. Some kids are having sex in middle school and others don't have sex at all until they're out of school or even married. I would not be surprised if a 12 or 13 or 14 or 15 or 16 or 17 or 18-year-old were having sex.

Depends on the teen. DS knows people who were having sex in middle school and he knows plenty who have not yet (he is going into college this fall).

Because we all have hormones and are sexually aroused. Because we really like/love someone. Because of a million different things. I was always responsible and never got pregnant nor had any kind of STI. Ditto my friends who were also having sex. It's not the end of the world. |

Don't get me wrong - I think it matters and not something to be taken lightly. It can have HUGE consequences. But there are also a lot of teens who are responsible about sex and are ready for it and handle it maturely. My 15-at-the-time boyfriend and I discussed for a long time (months) before we did it. Neither of us ever regretted it or had problems because of it.
We are now both educated, functional, professional adults with spouses and kids.

I was sexually active with several partners throughout my teen years. I experimented a lot. I went to sex shops and had sex toys. I experimented with oral sex, anal sex, BDSM. I cheated. I was a good kid, valedictorian of my class, never did drugs or got into major trouble. I never got pregnant or had an STD. I got a full ride scholarship to college and then went to law school. I'm now a married, educated, happy mom of three. I don't think teens having sex is automatically sad or bad. So that doesn't really register on my "shocking" radar. |

Of course 15 year olds are interested in sex. For the same reasons you are - it's romantic, it feels good, they get horny. I don't really think of 15 year olds as "kids". They're close to getting their own cars, a driver's license, lots of freedom. |

We were both 15 - apparently it was so wonderful we got married 5 years later!
36 years later, we've not grown horns or have scars or diseases.
I think we survived having sex early ... course we sorta burned ourselves out (okay, I did) LOL But we're good! LOL

Ha, it feels like it was centuries ago, but, damn, I remember being 15 & just flat out horny. Which is pretty much why I had sex at 15, cause it felt really great & it was fun.
Tomorrow is my 27th Anniversary to the guy I was having fun with at 15, so I can assure you there's nothing new with teens & sex.

Like others have said I think the age not so much as when the kids are ready. No different than when we were teens. The biggest change I have observed is that I think young girls are more open now about their needs and to trying new things. I think they feel more freedom to admit they like sex and that doesn't make them a slut or bad. I think it's a great change.

I personally know a girl that got pregnant the summer going into 6th grade. She was a tiny girl to start with so when school started for 6th grade she was already showing. She's around 32 now. He's almost 20 now I believe.
So teens start early in my world. Which is why I think talking about protection is good and shouldn't be frowned on.

I was probably way older than most... 19 I think. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great (it got way better though!).... it was with someone who in the end broke my heart to a million pieces and it hurt for YEARS.. I do regret the day I met him.

The numbers are lower for PiV sex but the numbers are higher(staggeringly)for blow jobs. And it seems that it is a one way deal, no oral sex for the little ladies. Anal sex is also seeing a rise. |
