I lived just over a mile from school so my ride was very short but I still spent the whole time praying no one would notice me and it would be over quickly. I was so painfully shy, we had just moved and it was my one and only year to ride the bus. My mother drove me to school after that year.

What did I do? I don't remember much, probably because I have never been a morning person and was never fully awake during the ride. In fact, I overslept and missed the bus pretty frequently. My neighbor and I walked to school together many days after watching the bus disappear from view. My homeroom teacher was very cool, he would let me climb in the window so I didn't get detention for being late - which would happen if the Superintendent caught you sneaking in after the bell rang.

Tried not to inhale too much second-hand marijuana before school.

Slept in the AM rides and usually just stared out the window or listened to others talk on the PM ride home.

The only time I ever rode the school bus was if we went on a field trip. I don't think I ever rode the bus on a daily basis. (and I'm going back to at least 2nd grade...Mrs. Roy North Lauderdale Elementary...she looked like the Mazola corn oil lady...I really don't remember Kindergarten or 1st grade)
I was always close enough (HA!) to either ride a bike or walk. (although when I was in 3rd-4th grade, I rode my bike a little less than 2 miles...but I freakin' crossed Lake Underhill Rd. in Orlando...without a crossing guard. I honestly don't know what my mother was thinking. At this time, I don't believe she was working so there was really no reason for her to not take us. (the intersection is Lake Underhill Rd./Oxalis Rd. in Orlando in case anyone knows the area)

When I was in grade school, our bus route had a huge bump in the road at the bottom of a long hill. When the bus reached the top of the hill, we would start bouncing up and down in our seats, and if we were at just the right spot mid-bounce when the bus hit the bump, we would go flying up in the air. Looking back, I think the bus driver might have gone over that bump a little bit harder than necessary.
Ha! Fun memory!

Studied for tests. Hid my ugly shoes underneath my seat. Talked to friends.

I rode the school bus for about 5 years from junior high and two years of high school. My friends and I would sit in the back and gab. We had a good mix of boys and girls. Lots of us went to the same junior high and high school so we were close during those school bus years.

It was a long ride, so we would dash off as much homework as possible. Not always to the highest of standards.

I had an hour ride both ways so I usually slept, talked, did homework, etc.
One interesting thing we did that would NEVER be allowed now is the bus driver would let us all off at a little store on her route, then she would go up to her turn around spot then come back to the store and pick us up. We always brought extra money so we could buy candy, chips, drinks, etc. in the mornings.

Long bus ride and a super strict bus driver, so it was pretty quiet. I talked to the person in my seat, doodled, read and we ate candy (if we could sneak it by the driver!).
My boys ride the bus and they started out playing Nintendo DS games and now that they are older they listen to music and play iphone games.

Nothing to and from school, it was only about a fifteen minute ride. But when I was in youth orchestra at about age 13 we would take longer trips and a group of us would share a can of Schlitz Malt Liqueur. Among ourselves we would make up jokes about the volunteers. We would be hysterical and it made for interesting concerts. This was the old days and we were very unsupervised.

I lived on the top of a mountain in CA that had no middle school. It was over an hour ride one way. Most of the time I spent teaching the boys on the bus how to crochet
