We used to play pitch (the card game). We also sang (me and my junior high girlfriends). Leif Garrett's "Runaround Sue" comes to mind. ( I know that Runaround Sue wasn't originally sung by Leif) Happy memories for the most part.

Nothing. We just rode the bus. I really don't remember doing anything except for talking to the person next to, in front of, or behind me.

On the way to school? I did math homework. At least in Middle School. My ride was always pretty short, so otherwise we just talked.

Usually just sat there and talked with a friend or two. Other days, we learned all kind of new names for different body parts or "acts" that the older kids were talking about. Oh, and then there was the kid that used to turn his eyelids inside out and gross everyone out.

On the way to and from school, you sat and waited to get to your destination.
On the bus for Forensics (the extracurricular for which I was most often on the school bus), we would: (1) sleep, if it was still dark out in the morning (depending on how far we were going), (2) eat breakfast (especially if the coaches brought us donuts); (3) practice; or (4) play euchre. On the way home, the coaches would hand out the score sheets and everyone would basically compare notes about their day. And maybe play cards.

I rode the bus with kids from kindergarten all the way up to high school. As a younger kid, we were always trying to figure out what the high schoolers were doing or talking about. Like WHY would a balloon have a funny little tip on the end of it and why did the high schoolers think it was hilarious that we were batting it around?! Or the time we were stopped for an extensive amount of time because one of the high schoolers, threw the back seat out the window.
I didn't mind the bus too much until we moved when I was 15 1/2. The bus I had to ride then was SO full of kids and they were mean. I was NEVER so happy to get my license and be able to drive to school!!!

Read. I always had my nose in a book and, on more occasions than I care to remember, I missed getting off at my house (lived out in the country) and had to ask the driver to stop down the road and then walk back home. And then, of course, I heard about it the next morning when I got on the bus.

I didn't ride the bus to school but I went to an after school program offsite. The program provided a bus to the location and all I remember are "silent bus rides." We weren't allowed to talk, even at a hushed whisper. And if you were being disruptive on the bus you would have to sit on a bench for the first 15 minutes of rec time and watch everyone else play. It was only a 3 minute ride from school, but they also did a summer program and we would go on outings around town. Some bus rides would be up to 45 minutes, those were torture! Luckily that was only in elementary school!
Sometimes they would turn on the radio but we still weren't allowed to talk.

I just tried to be as invisible as possible so I wouldn't get picked on, lol. The kids on the buses weren't very nice. Lots and lots of cliques and 'mean girls' (and this was back in the 70s).

Talked, read a book, sometimes a little homework but not too often. It was a pretty boring 30 minute ride. Rode all the through high school. Found out a few years ago that one of my bus drivers had a crush on me! I was a jr or a sr at the time and he was about 23 or so.

Uhhhhhhhh. I stared out the window, talking and singing to myself, and hoping none of the bullies would notice that I was there, because if they did, there was no telling what they might do to me. I really hated the bus.

I only rode team buses and we sang, mostly. Songs like Dead Man's Curve, Little Old Lady From Pasadena, Last Kiss.
My children rode buses to school and I have lots of stories about what happened on the bus. Their first bus driver should not have been a bus driver.

On the way to school I would help my older cousin with his English and Microbiology homework by whispering. He was 3 years older than me, but at the time was having a lot of academic problems.
On the way home I just sat there. The cousin did not ride in the afternoon and our bus driver demanded silence. I was so glad to get to stop riding that bus.

Sat at the back of the bus and cut up with a group of friends. We had a long bus ride too............more than an hour each way. We were the first to be picked up in the morning (usually dark still) and the last to be let off in the evening. We were picked up about 6:30 or 6:45am and got home about 4:30.

I only rode the bus from kindergarten through 2nd grade. We lived on a dirt road that the bus wasn't allowed to go on. All the kids who lived up the holler had to come to the end of the road (we called it the hard road because it was asphalt) and wait for the bus there. There were probably about 10 of us. The older boys always looked out for me, and if anyone on the bus tried to push me around, those boys would take care of it. I was like everyone's little sister, and they wouldn't tolerate anyone messing with me. This was back in the 70's.
I don't really remember having time to do anything since the bus ride was 10 minutes at most.

Sophomore and Junior years were the only years I rode a bus. Senior year, I rode with friends. My school paired with another school starting my Sophomore year. Prior to pairing, I lived two blocks from our K-12 school building. When we paired, school was suddenly 13 miles away. Small town Minnesota.
I sat with my cousin every single day. Most days we'd just chat, but sometimes we'd finish homework, help each other review for a test, or proofread papers. Most of the time we just giggled, though. Lots of giggling.

Tried not to get motion sick. Motion sickness, diesel fumes, and twisting curving mountain roads are a terrible combination. I was so happy when we finally moved somewhere close enough to walk to school.

Prayed, wished, hoped that no one would try to beat me up or put gum in my hair. I went to a rough school.

Shot paper spit wads at our nasty bus monitor. (He was a year or two older and loved to torment the younger teenage girls)
