Yep. We paid $525 last time after our insurance discount (they only cover it after deductibles are met but they do discount it somehow) and a $100 off coupon. It hurts, especially since we have to replace it every year.

I paid $500 last week. I'm grateful that my son can self carry at school, so I didn't have to buy 2 sets.

After reading that statement from Mylan, ITA with Bernie's statement that the drug industry's greed knows no bounds.
It was disgusting when the Martin Schmucky guy did it, and it's disgusting that another company is now doing it with EpiPens.

btw it didn't just happen. It's been slowly going up over the years but the biggest jump was right after the Auvi Q was recalled.

Dang, our allergist just called in our refills and now I'm afraid to see what the price will be when I pick them up. I have 3 kids with allergies. :/

I am sick of this financial exploitationof sick people. It is bullshit. You should see the sticker price on drugs for juvenile arthritis. $4000-$10,000 per month!

The jerks know the consumer is stuck since the Auvi Q recall and are taking full advantage. It's disgusting. But, can't boycott. Because, you know, peanuts = no worky, worky for ODS. I hope the people behind this decision all get flats. In rush hour. Repeatedly.

I just checked on my insurance to see how much they are. I have bee sting allergy and I haven't got an epipen in about 10 years. 461.00. And I have insurance.

I just started having to carry one and I was shocked at the price (thankfully after my insurance it was only $30)
Apparently, they are sold over the counter in Canada and are only around $100, so that is an option for some. Sad though, since its the same company. Obviously they are making money on it at that price, so yes, becuase we don't have a national healthcare system like them drug companies can charge whatever they want.
The scary part is, that some people won't buy them at all because of their cost, others will keep them longer than they should and risk their lives because they may no longer be effective.

Wow MizIndependent . Come to New Zealand. Just looked online and here they're NZ$120 which is US$87. That's a coincidence. I was just suggesting to my DH that we move to New Zealand two days ago. He's in the IT business and you speak English there so it's be a somewhat easy move compared to other countries. But I really don't want to leave my parents. I'm 56 and they are both 76. This country has a lot of problems, one of the biggest being healthcare. It's insane that we don't have single payer healthcare in my opinion when every other industrialized nation does. That we have health insurance companies and "Big Pharma" who not only put profit, but greedily put HUGE profits over anything else, even the death of children. The ACA is no help-it allows people to buy health insurance from only a few health insurance companies that are limited to number by State. What would help is true competition. Instead of the health insurance companies deciding their prices and being limited to how many are offered per State, all of them should be sold across the nation (like car insurance) and there should be true price competition where they compete for people to buy them. That would at least help until we can get single payer. Up until now they, the health insurance companies, along with the pharmaceutical companies (Big Pharma) call all the shots. They raise the prices every single year and lower the benefits every single year. But next year will be the worst for my family. We've bought health insurance for the last 2 years from the ACA. My husband works on a contract basis in the IT business and the contracts usually last 18 months. Some don't come with health insurance and the last one that did had a $5,000 deductible. So the first year it was open we bought health insurance from the ACA. We bought a good policy and it cost us a lot of money, but it was our choice. In Maryland you have a choice of Blue Cross/Blue Shield (what we've had the last two years and prefer), Aetna, United Health, Kaiser and Evergreen. We just found out Aetna, United Health and Blue Cross/Blue Shield will not be available next year on the ACA in Maryland. I'm sick with worry. My sister had Kaiser last year and it was horrible. I know Lucy here likes it, but here in Maryland it isn't good. Know why they're pulling out? Because they aren't making enough profit! Again it's greed. That's why DH and I had the short discussion about the possibility of moving to New Zealand. I'm just so tired of it-it just keeps getting worse and worse. But I think I'm going to stay here and fight. Voting for Jill Stein is a step in that direction. She is the only candidate for single payer health care. I'm sorry if I took the thread off topic. It should be criminal for pharmaceutical companies to make medication that is so urgently needed in a life and death situation like an Epi-Pen so expensive. This needs to change!

My daughter's friend is in third grade and needs three Epipens - one at home and to carry with her off hours, one at school, and one at their gymnastics club (because they train so many hours and food is often present, she is required to keep one there). That is just a punishing expense when you have to replace them so frequently. I feel bad for parents struggling under that burden. I don't think it should be that way.
My husband takes one drug that increased in price from about sixty cents a pill to over seven dollars a pill, or about $28 per day, a few years ago. He switched to an alternative drug that was inadequate to the task. We fought the insurance company and won - they now pay for it on a $40 copay. I actually wish we could have fought the drug company - it isn't the fault of our insurance company that the drug manufacturer jacked up the price of that medication. But it was our only recourse.

Ugh. I'm going to have to price them at our pharmacy with our insurance and see what the hit will be. My deductible is met this year so I usually try to get a refill as soon as I meet the deductible and then again at the very end of the year so that I have a fresh one for the coming year until I can meet my deductible again.

Damn. I paid 115 6 months ago, not looking forward to replacing mine.
I wish the mucky mucks in Washington would do something about this. Anyone remember the episode of ER when Noah Wylie made all the pharm reps take back all the goodies they gave the doctors? I don't understand why certain companies aren't allowed to be monopolies, but pharmaceuticals can gouge the hell out of people.
I know I used to get my allergy medicine from Austrailia because they discontinued it in the states, are epi pens prescription only or is it an option to buy from Canada or over seas?

You should be able to get a coupon that brings the cost to free. We give them out in our office. Those coupons generally have a limit on the total amount. If you don't have RX coverage or you haven't met your deductible, they don't work. I want to say that the max amount is something like $125 off. Or at least that was my experience with the discount coupon from the manufacturer last year.
